Notts County fans, can you just summarise with the words 'We're spending loads of cash, we're excited, Dennis and Hemmings, our chairman tweets a lot. Sven and Sol' so the rest of us don't have to scroll through pages of the same old shite?

You don’t need a Notts fan to summarise anything , you could ask a fellow Town fan, naturally a Chesterfield fan would be a good option, plenty of Stags fans seem to know what’s happening at Meadow Lane thanks to our chairman’s twitter, a random Tranmere guy, maybe a Port Vale supporter . As you’ve seen plenty of fans of other clubs seem to know all the details and have commented.

Any of the above could do the job for ya. Hopefully we have some more announcements to make re next season’s squad and as already mentioned by an Imp on here it’ll be Lincoln next to sign players and be critiqued by the masses.

Tbh if I want to know the latest goings on at Sincil Bank , I usually just ask a Grimsby fan on here .

It was genuine, he's a decent mid-table player who might improve into something a little better. Surely Grimsby fans don't seriously think they're going to be challenging for promotion next season?
Why would we not think that? If there is one team that nobody knows anything about in this division then it is us, without a doubt. To dismiss us before we have got more than a quarter of a squad and before a ball has been kicked is madness. We won't know how good we are gonna be until a significant part of the season has played out.

Unlike the Cowleys who do a substantial amount of their work with their computer and a cheque book, acquiring finished articles, Jolley will be assembling a ragtag bunch of misfits and trying to cobble them all together. Grimsby Town next season will be like a stag do. A load of random strangers thrown into a situation they ordinarily wouldn't have been in. Who knows where we are going. Pontoonlew broke the table, how much was the Air Bnb deposit again? Will we make it to go karting on time? Are those JJ Hooper's pants in the sink?! Who knows...the only two things we are certain about is that we will be waking up at the end of April with a horrible hangover and that we definitely won't be calling our bald, boring as fuck, deluded ex.

What I was initially pulling you up on though is this laughable notion that you think you are a level above us! For all the bravado, banners and media wanking that the Cowleys have brought to Lincoln, you find yourselves kicking off the season in August in the same division as us and on the same points.

Lincoln doing their bit trying to belittle us, it'll be tits and tears in a couple of days when somebody is nasty about Danny again.

In all seriousness, we're rebuilding and we were top of the form table at the end of the season. It's a competitive league and nobody knows who will be any good yet, for the first time in a while I don't think there's a single clear favourite to go up from this league this season (which I know may come as a shock to Lincoln fans).

I don't see Grimsby as relegation candidates next season, but will they be able to trouble the top seven? ....... Impossible to say at this stage.

It’s odd isn’t it. Impression I get is that they genuinely think they’ll be up there. Could be wrong, but can’t see it myself - had an appalling squad last season and not convinced they’ll improve on it too much
Any idea where you get this impression from, with the exception of Son of Cod's post from today which was after you posted this none of us on here have indicated that we think we'll be up there, sure we're all expecting/hoping for a much better season than last but I don't recall any of us predicting promotion.

I haven't said we'll be up there, for the record. Just questioned why we would completely dismiss the idea of having a chance.

This, madness to say we don't have a chance when we've not signed anybody yet with a manager who took a team who didn't win in 21 games to winning 5 of our last 6 with one draw.

For the record, I'd be happy to consolidate and think that's what we'll do. No Town fan thinks we're going up (Not even on The Fishy) but I'd certainly not fall off my chair if Jolley got us in and around the play offs.

Impossible to say how anyone will do without seeing signings and even then you need 10-15 games into the season, especially with relegated and promoted sides.

That aside, sky having us at 40/1 is a dream each way bet and I can’t see it being anywhere near that price in August.

Edit: now 16/1.. whoever did that is welcome for the tip.

Didn't have to say it, the way you were so triggered by gijsbert_bos saying you'd be midtable said it all.

You'll be solid midtable and should be grateful for that.

Are you going to easily get out of the league this year? 8/1 best price for relegation.

Why do people keep aiming that at our fans?

None of us have ever said that it would be easy to get out of this league. I predicted us to finish 16th last year.

That turned out to be overly BULLISH but reckon we've got a fair chance of competing for 16th this year and being about 8 points clear of relegation. I'm wildly excited by that prospect, finishing lower midtable would be amazing and I would be VERY happy with that. Capiche?.

Not really to be honest. Just think it'd take a pretty incredible summer of recruitment to turn what you had last season into a team that will challenge. As someone else said though, you're a bit of an unknown quantity because of the new manager etc

We went from relegation fodder to a play off push without a huge over haul. These things do happen under good management

To be fair the likes of Duffy and Jones had won promotion with us from this level, O’Connor with Rotherham before being decent for us in league one and Dickinson had always played a higher level. Added in with experience and a couple of good loanees like Grant they had a decent blend of experience and quality within the squad, they seemed to play to their strengths too I.e. fairly direct from the games against us and on TV that I saw.

There are probably smaller margins between success and struggle at this level I would say that most. Even the league above the gap between the top two or three usually is quite stark as in recent years they’ve generally been big clubs such as Wolves, Blackburn, Bolton or big spenders such as Wigan.

Yep JJ we spent a fortune last season compared the previous one :mell:. I thought you knew this division, you’re gaff prone

As for the ex Vale contingent, O’Connor (sadly) didn’t play all season due to injury, Duffy splits opinion but was an ever present and definitely L2 play off quality, Dicko was average at best, no more, minimal impact, limited but never let us down. Jones when fit was 8 out 10 times very good. With him and Toots we have excellent L2 fullbacks

The reasons we spent basically all season in top 7 are, as said played to our strengths (direct to two up top and played off that), defensively were pretty solid all season, two loans from over the Trent had huge impacts for different reasons, we kept it simple and straightforward in our approach (Plan A) and Nolan is clearly a talented manager when it comes from effectively squeezing effort and productivity out of a pretty limited squad.

We weren’t talented or good enough to go up but clearly good enough to beat a hell of a lot of L2 rivals.

I don’t think the budget changed too much to be honest, probably went up a bit.

Nobody expected that lot to be up the top considering the squad they had.

True, plus I think the increased level of support , positivity and noise at Meadow Lane also helped with having a very good home record prior to the play offs.

"triggered" Nice one Chris mate, glad to see you have been going to your University of Memes lectures. Looking forward to you sharing your notes on "woke".

As usual, you lack the intellectual capacity to grasp my post. Have a read again and you might get it fella.

Just be careful about the birds Jolley brings back to the flat. I'd check their ID if I were you.

Standard two sentence response that has nothing to do with what we were talking about when I took the time to make a well constructed post. It has been a pleasure, but thanks. I'm out. You have nothing to offer.

I don’t think our budget last year was in the top 6. I think people confuse what the Chairmen said about losing money as we had a big budget.

That team lost 10 on the bounce and was relegation fodder before Nolan’s came in. Our play off team only had 4 new player s to the previous season starting. We certainly didn’t throw money at our team last year
