The majority of Grimsby fans wanted Hurst out, now he's in the Championship and being talked about as one of the best up and coming managers in the country. Maybe even a future England manager.
So what you’re saying is. Paul Hurst and John Askey are potentially the same person and Danny Cowley planned for it back when we was at Concord?

He was fast, scored some goals and worked hard. I don't think the grass in necessarily greener in this case. I don't think he's getting a fair appraisal from those who aren't bothered to see him go. Football fans have weird opinions though, especially Mansfield ones. I stopped looking on Stagsnet at the poll on David Flitcroft when at the end of the season 54 per cent of people wanted him to stay. 54 per cent! Lol, look at the sodding evidence, it's a bloody shambles!!

Agreed, those that would be prepared to pay around £3k a week for hemmings would be a strange bunch indeed, but as you say, fans are strange!

If the lad could finish he’d be lethal at this level. If only.....

He’s obviously going to have a cracker for county now though!

Although I don’t believe a word of it, that FL72 magazine reported we were paying our, now ex, goalkeeper Reece Charles Cook, £3k a week. About £2999 too fucking much the useless, droppy muppet.

Are there many players out there who are attainable for 3k per week and have proven themselves better than Hemmings? As far as I am aware without a huge transfer fee, 3k per week gets you a Hemmings or a Matt Green. I suppose we could take a punt on an unproven player on lower wages or really push the boat out.

I'd be surprised if there's much better out there for the same price.

How many times do we have to go over this before you actually realise this is not true? Take your boner out of your hand before engaging on this matter next time please, Cwissums.

No need for personal abuse sir, it is a well known fact that Hurst was not popular with a large number of your lot. Just look back at the reaction to your first leg defeat at home to Braintree in the play-offs. Loads were calling for Hurst's head.

Consider yoursleves lucky. Liverpool are paying Karius 50k+
Yeah, but that nasty Sergio Ramos gave the poor dear a touch of concussion.

We were a goal down and a man sent off at Lincoln after 30 minutes. Got 2 quick goals to lead and that Stevie Wonder of a keeper managed a flappy own goal in injury time.

Unlikely as they are, we are rumoured to be in the running for Dembele and Otis Khan from Yeovil.

Hurst himself had a dig at your fans after you beat us in the play-off final.

And to quote John Fenty when Hurst left you-

We kept him for years when, actually, the fans would have ditched. Unfortunately, we lost a good manager, but I believe we have replaced him with a good manager.
“If we think about the number of years that Paul Hurst was with us, he did suffer a difficult time with the fans quite frankly. After the first game with Braintree, and the Halifax, Paul suffered enormous abuse and he struggled with that. He thought he had served the club. Personally, and I know that the board agree, I felt that he did a good job for us. He was a safe pair of hands. Successively, he got us in the Play-Offs, and he got us that all-important promotion.”

Seems your fans giving him all that stick are what helped him decide to leave when he got the chance. Which goes back to the original point about most fans not actually being as big experts as they like to think.

Well if you quoting John Fenty then you have clearly lost the argument. Our non Chairman will only say things that are in our non Chairman’s interest. He goes onto say he is a safe pair of hands, and this basically sums Hurst up in my opinion. Will get a team organised, and get them playing for each other, but is one dimensional and cannot organise a team to break down defensive opponents. Tactically he lets himself down. To say he is one of the most up and coming managers in the country is basically lazy thinking. Oh he has done ok and got a team promoted and improved another one, big deal.

He has done well to get where he has but championship is his limit (and probably beyond his limit).

If he ends up England manager then my cock is a kipper!!

Meh. Can tear it up once every few months, but he is tiny and lightweight. We've activated the additional year by all accounts, so will be getting a fee for him which I'm more than happy about. Could go on to be very good, but more than likely won't.

Won't be missed

Plus from what I've seen for Dembele so far he doesn't seem all that, looks good with us but that's not difficult I struggle to see him impressing in some of the top sides in this league from what I've seen

Our Matt Taylor has signed a new contract. Keeping him at the club until he’s 73

Have to agree with Chris here. The big majority of Grimsby fans wanted Hurst gone, and I for one thought they were right in doing so.All I know is that Hurst gave this impression that he was fine with settling for a play off spot instead of trying to win the league and auto promotion obviously.

IMO, Hurst had great squad during his time with Grimsby, so he underachieved to an extent. Of course, doing wonders with the Shrews' limited resources means zilch as people can improve or regress in time. A perfect example would be Herve Renard as nobody thought he'd ever become a successful manager while he was with us back in 2004.

Ah yes, John Fenty. Great bastion and publically appointed patron of all Grimsby fans, famed for his press releases that are so laden with humility and integrity that he no longer needs to walk the streets of Cleethorpes for he is carried everywhere upon the shoulders of his fanatical admirers. If ever there was a chairman who spoke for the community of his club and not for the purposes of spin and PR it is Mr Fenty, without a shadow of a doubt.

A club's fans' policy on their manager is not as black and white as a) wanting somebody sacked or b) being 100% behind their every decision. We went over this exact issue so many times in the Conference and as recently as in PH's Ipswich appointment thread in the Championship forum. If you genuinely do think that "most" Grimsby fans wanted him out, go read that thread and feel free to come back and go over some of the finer points that yourself and Honest John continuously gloss over.

Also, what personal abuse are you referring to? You are the one with a history of name calling and sending PMs offering to arrange fights with fellow members.

Interesting question Stringy .

My question. Who would you have rather had playing next season at Field Mill? Hemmings or Angol?

I only saw them play at Meadow Lane last season, and one was a sub so I have no idea who is the better forward. We are desperate for pace now Forte has gone thats for sure

I'm not sure why Stag s fans keep saying Hemmings can't finish. 15 in 37 last season are fantastic stats in any team.
Hurst as a manager also had a really good win ratio at Ilkeston before going to Grimsby getting them back to the league and doing really well at Shrewsbury.
I struggle to understand these opinions when the stats say the complete opposite.

For Mansfield and the general North Nottinghamshire area that figure is incredible high!!! I suspect at least 1/3 didn’t understand the question/poll :bl:

Preferably neither.

Angol has More potential, but hemmings works better. 5 or 6 of hemmings goals were penalties also. Hemmings is a good lad and likeable, just frustrating as fuck

Is Hemmings actually that quick? I wouldn’t say so. Anyway Neal Bishop apprently close to signing for us.

Love Bish but must be past his best now, always relied on being able to cover loads of ground. A great guy to have in the dressing room, though.

It's been covered numerous times, Hurst is a good manager but there's a reason he's lost 5 of his 6 Wembley appearances. He messes it all up in the same order every year.

That's why Grimsby fans moaned because it was simple changes that would've taken us up 2 seasons before we did. He's done very well at Shrewsbury but if anybody had watched the same thing happen year after year (with us) then they'd know why he also got criticised.

Hemmings will be on more than £3000 p/w at Notts County, he’s not took a 50% paycut.

I think there is better value for money than Hemmings, but the chance Mansfield and Flitcroft have finding it is rare, so I would have preferred to sign him unless we find better value. On the plus side, Rose is much better in front of the net in comparison to Kane, and quite frankly Rose and Angol are hugely underrated by our own lot.

A journalist on twitter thinks we are signing Bishop, Lincoln were also interested. He’s definitely the sort of midfield we need but his age is a obvious concern.

After last seasons preferred front pairing , I’d take mobile! Always liked Bishop for obvious reasons back in and around the Munto day’s.

I don’t think Angol liked was cold too much during the Notts derby at Meadow Lane once he stripped off and came on as a sub. Spent most of the time on the deck, hope Hemmings is a better strike partner for our other new striker

Evans certainly preferred Hemmings to Angol but what does he know?

We’ve got who we’ve got up top now so we’ll see how the new boys do
