David Vaughan to Notts Co confirmed. Is there any point in turning up next season?

Serious question Notts fans but does the money Hardy is throwing about not worry you a bit? I know Radford does me at times at our place but not to that extent.

In terms of fees for Dennis, Hemmings and Boudjewin got to be half a mill combined and what? Minimum £3k a week in wages? And Vaughn possibly double that in wages?

I know its all supposition on the wage front but where is that coming from? He isn't mega rich and was only whining a few weeks ago the pay offs made you next to nothing.

Do we just accept this now as lower league fans I suppose?

The transfer fees aside, I think the wage budget has stayed the same. For instance Vaughan's wages would probably be made up of O'Connor's and Noble's. Hemmings and Dennis probably made up of Grant's, Ameobi and Forte's wages. Collin was allegedly on £3k a week, we havent replaced him so the wages are probably on par with last year, we just have more quality rather than quantity this year

Vaughan looks like more of a signing of convenience than us throwing crazy money at him, to be honest. He’s 35 and has already been in the city for the last few years, presumably lives here etc.

We were already paying silly wages out to Sheridan’s players, assume that we’ve basically just given Nolan the same wage budget to bring in his own. Do I think we’ve gone over the top on transfer fees, though? Probably, but I’ve not got much choice in it.

We’re looking good anyway, but look to be undergoing a pretty radical overhaul of our playing style. Need to see a bit of evidence of it working before I start declaring us as favourites!

I’m not buying that the ‘wage’ budget is the same, Nolan could be having up to a £1m pound budget increase.

Evans had similar so I’m not judging lol.

It’s probably gone up a bit, but I think people are underestimating how much we were paying the likes of Collin, Forte, O’Connor and Milsom.

In fact there was a very similar conversation about us lobbing money at people that summer and that went well for us! :D

Maybe but we got rid of a lot of high earners in the summer, we've bought some in but not as many. We probably have had a bit of an increase but I don't think we're hiking it massively

So wages are the same but what about the 500k+ spent on players. That’s a big increase in budget.

We were £250k up about a quarter of the way through the season on the plan we have. I'm assuming we've taken that money so we are still on target for break even to then improve the squad? If you were expecting to pay £1.5m but only spent £1m you may as well spend the extra £0.5m on players?

I'd be a bit more concerned about Carolyn Radford's car crashesque appearance on Question Time last night. She admitted that she voted to leave the EU in the Brexit vote and then quantified that statement by confirming that her company depends on EU Trade.

Hate to be accused as misogynist but she came across a tad on the dim side. I also hope her plastic face didn't melt in the studio lights yesterday evening.

Not sure what is more embarrassing, her appearance on QT last night or the Carolyn song she sent to all 72 football league chairmen/owners to get voted onto the EFL board!

Viking Magpie will be along with an essay soon to put Notts spending into context.

There’s no point tbh, it falls on deaf ears , people don’t want to listen. In short summary: The way I see it is, a club signs a player, if he’s average/dump you get lots of fans of other clubs saying how bad he is and laughing.
If a club signs a good player, pays money etc, all you get from those same posters is, can they afford, they’ve overpaid, really going for it,

I am worried about a Football chairmen spending more than he has?!? Of course not, I’m a supporter, just a supporter I can’t influence that. I just hope the players signed are good, help us win and fun to watch. It’s hardly unheard of in the EFL, in fact it’s common

Delighted with Vaughan always been a big fan, and great replacement for O’connor Who I also like.

Great publicity lol

To be fair I really wanted her to come across well as I think its great that she represents women in a 'man's game' but sadly, she didn't

I guess her comments explain why she thought appointing David Flitcroft as manager was a good idea!

Re Notts appearing to up the ante with wages etc, surely after falling just short in the play-offs now is the time to push onwards and upwards? Yes of course its a gamble but County are a big club at this level and have the potential to get crowds of circa 10k-15k which could support those wages?

There is a danger that the shit and bust tactic is not going to work of course but fair play to their chairman for going for it. Of course as a football fan I do hope that he isn't risking the club's future.

FWIW I think County are going to be very dangerous this season based on their recriutment and I am tempted to back them towards promotion.

It’s nothing new. Your club for examples spending on signings, players wages and loan fees last season and this certainly aren’t covered by tickets sales at Field Mill and the Sandy Pete?!? Not even close , so who’s covering that?

The one man rightly loved the most in Mansfield, “One Call John” who bails then out financially each season.

It’s the norm. I’d rather be going for it, risking it , spending money , buying players etc . The alternative is dull, and depressing

Go Big Al, go

Don't get me wrong we can't be throwing stones in this particular glass house and as I say I have my concerns here as well because while both are wealthy neither has bottomless pits.

But you couldn't have said a truer word that we can't control a bloody thing about it so may as well strap in and enjoy the ride.

I think Nolan has done a cracking recruitment job far outstripping that fat twohat last year for us. I am comfortable with what we have done up to yet as well but don't see much more than playoffs as we stand.

In fact fuck it you have Dennis & Hemmings, Lincoln getting Akinde lets sell the train station and get Bogle :woot:.

Of course we all have to remember no one looked around this time last year and said Accrington would be champions with the exception of Accrington fans maybe.

I don't even think Accrington fans were saying that either

Christ, I know he's old but that's a ridiculously good signing.

That’s what I was thinking , surely far too good for this level. I’ve always been impressed with him when he played for Forest, and another championship club would surely be in for him on a free?! Or at least a Burton Albion in L1.

Looks like he’s sacrificed the division and his salary to be convenient and stay rooted in Notts.

Delighted that is surely the last piece/signing. Whether it succeeds or fails , Big congratulations to the chairman and club. Nolan, unlike last season, has no excuse this season. He’s under the pressure of expectation and promotion

Have to admit I've never heard of David Vaughan so just looked him up and he looks like he could be Peter Beardsley's uglier Brother.
