Pleased with Akinde. Can't be disappointed with a 1 in 2 striker! SWB reporting a £150k initial fee.

An upgrade on Palmer.

He's played 170 odd games in 5 seasons so he's hardly someone who misses many games through injury so last season seems a one-off.

Probably still need another 4 or 5 signings.
A 1 in 2 striker at Barnet. Banjo Billy elsewhere

Even accounting for Wycombe and Alfreton he is a 1 in 10 striker if you discount Barnet.

Fair fucks for your owner being prepared to splash that sort of money, I just think he’s backing a dud.

You can't discount Barnet or Alfreton because they were the last two clubs over the last 5 years so in all honestly those stats are more important than any others.

He could be a dud, as could all the other big money acquisitions bought this close season. His goal tally over the time here will tell if it's worth the estimated 150k or not but IF he gets fit and stays that way, we have a great chance of getting 20+ goals a season out of him.

How’s Woolery doing?

Of course every signing is a gamble.

it's not our owner splashing the cash like Mansfield and Notts, whilst we do have some investment, the money we're spending is the money we've earned.

Good signing, the right fit for us. If Akinde was fit for the whole of last season, no way would we have had the finances to sign him. A calculated gamble and one i'm really looking forward to seeing.

Josh Yorwerth sold to Posh for 500k.

That's about fair for him to be honest. Good player but can get dragged into a fight and forget to play football. I remember Danny Hylton making a mug of him a season or two ago.

Our three best players have left since the end of the season! It was nice knowing you.

The loss of Josh Lelan is the biggest blow I take it, gonna be impossible to replace a legend like that I would have thought?

Interestingly despite three named trialists playing we also had one who Aspin refused to name... a striker! Weird!

Few years back we actually gave some triallists aliases to try to stop anyone finding out who they were. One called "Alex Bellamy" was actually a Polish striker, Arkadiusz Zarczynski who we ended up signing. He did nothing and ended up going to Bath. Well worth all the secrecy.

No need to worry Casey, Ollie Palmer is the new Rakish Bingham.

Alfreton had quite a decent side at the time Akinde was there, and were one of the sides trying to make the play offs at a time when the conference was stronger than it is now.
Yep that season they looked nailed on for the play offs but then fell away badly last month or two and missed out but up until then they’d kept pace quite easily.

They were 2nd/3rd for most of the season I think. Then literally crumbled last 8 games or so yeah.

Anyone to be be confident of promotion at this stage are deluded, regardless ofnmoney spent. Thought Chesterfield would be close to top 7 and Accrington would be relegated. The beauty of football.

Mansfield and County are clearly strong favourites given their signings. We can’t be sure about Lincoln yet, despite recruiting well, as we still only have 15 players.

Going to be a very competitive season. Expect Swindon, Port Vale, MK Dons and Exeter to be strong. Bury and Northampton are a bit of blind spot for me.
We've got 17 signed up as things stand.

It’s mental to look back at some of the sides and some of the players in that league at the time. Ridiculously strong and no wonder us, Luton, Mansfield etc took so long to get out.

Bored now by our lack of transfer movement but our local hack has suggested we’ll be signing 3 today.

Luke McCormick the ex convict and Plymouth keeper suggested to be one which is really going to polarise supporters (until the season starts and those off the field things will be forgotten about probably). Other names banded about - Maxwell Oldham, Lloyd Sam, Anthony Wordsworth and Elijah Adebayo (season long loan from Fulham)

I’ll wait and see!

Lloyd Sam a few years ago was absolutely ace for Notts. Saying that, he's been in America and is getting on in years now so may have taken a toll but still would imagine he's a good player at this level

I don’t think perpetual ‘nearly man’ Hurst helped, I still say a prayer of gratitude each night before I sleep that Mr Monkhouse got injured before Braintree.

We're bottom feeders now, AS. These sort of signings doesn't smack of an owner who has any intention of going for promotion. He's repeating the mistakes when we got relegated. Young loan players, punts on freebies. Cant see us worrying the top 7 that's for sure.

Can't say I disagree at all, but I am still hopeful that the next month we can bring on 3 or 4 real quality lower league players to compliment our squad. Time is ticking on however.

Adebayo was decent as an impact sub - dreadful each time he started. Likes to fall over. Wasn't quite up to the rigours of men's football, but there is definitely something there.
