Crikey, his ego won't like that!

Happy with this goalkeeper we've got. As fun as Placide could be last season, and despite him playing plenty of games in the top French league, he's one of those keepers you're always worried about doing something stupid. Always a danger of giving a goalie his first games at competitive first team level, but you've got to be pretty decent to be the Danish U21 goalkeeper.

International clearance on Kalvin Lumbombo Kalala has apparently gone through, and we're also due to announce the signing of a Manny Duku from Hayes and Yeading.

Apparently we're still in for a contracted National League player (Macauley Bonne the rumoured favourite) and there's also a rumour that we may be signing Liam McAlinden as he trained with us earlier in the summer and has turned down Chesterfield to play in the Football League - 2+2 and all that.

Are you actually going to sign anyone good to replace Eisa? All the strikers already signed or that you're being linked too are not going to score many in League 2.

Surely you've got to aim higher? Could be a long season if you don't.

It depends on who succeeds and how - Eisa is arguably our best ever signing, scoring more goals in a Football League season than any other player for Cheltenham. Before playing for us, he'd never played higher than 4 levels below the Football League.

In January 2013 we signed Paul Benson who had a cracking goal scoring record, he scored 1 goal for us, that summer we signed Jamie Cureton, a player who was still scoring goals for fun at the time, he barely hit double-figures for us.

It's swings and roundabouts, before signing for us Danny Wright had a very mediocre scoring record in the Conference, he was our top scorer when we won it.

Basically, what I'm saying is, I have no idea, but if these players click, then experience counts for shit.

The Orient fans all rate Macauley Bonne very highly, never seen him play myself but always presumed he’s decent.

Played briefly for us in 16/17, scored on his first start for us but didn't do much more after that mainly due to getting concussed against Barrow...

Stevenage have signed Kurtis Guthrie, good luck with that. Was half decent on his day but his attitude stinks and he's too divisive for a dressing room. Had a good scoring streak at one point but his arrogance doesn't match his ability.

Think only one forward in the history of League Two has gone for more than £1.8 million (Ollie Watkins) and that was Nick Powell for an initial £3 million.

The difference between Powell and Doidge is that Powell was a highly rated 17 year old Academy product who single handedly fired a side to a miraculous promotion, whilst collecting England U19 caps along the way and started a bidding war for his services. He was a freakish talent.

Doidge has scored a remarkable total for a side who were very poor last season. But Doidge is considerably older, was mediocre at Dagenham and Redbridge in this division so for all teams know he could be a one season wonder at this level and doesn't have the pedigree that a youth product like Watkins or Powell both had.

If FGR are lucky they might get a similar fee to what Grimsby got for Omar Bogle, but £2 million? Not a chance given the circumstances.

Still, it's not as unrealistic as that Luton fan who claimed Nottingham Forest were going to sign their RB for £3 million last season... :fl:

In all fairness transfers have gone way up since then, as shown by Stevenage selling a centre half who had played 10 games for them for reputedly 1.5 million. You really need to reasses what these players are worth in the new market tbh.

We turned down 2 million for said right back and the 3 million was the “hands off” price.

Just to add fuel to Doidge debate as well, I think we sold Isaac Vassel for 1.5 million, who was a fair more raw player than Doidge, and much less proven.

According to Sky Sources Sunderland, Aberdeen, Bradford and Peterborough are all showing interest in Christian Doidge.

Can't see him going to any of them, so looks like he's staying. :woo:

Can somebody please buy either Calum Butcher, Paul Anderson or Paul Digby please, we are so loaded in midfield and need a new defender.

Bradford usually like a big league two striker like they signed the Carlisle lad.

Oldham have signed Jonathan Benteke as expected. He didn't get much of a chance last season, but he's scored three so far in pre season, seems like a good all-round striker who has the hunger to do well for us.

He takes the No.14 shirt, leaving 9, 10 and 11 as gaps in the squad list.

We've signed midfielder Reece Cole on loan from Brentford, had been on loan at Newport last season but only played 4 games before a knee injury.

Out of the blue, literally, we have signed Jacob Maddox on loan from Chelsea - looking at his pedigree, this is quite an exciting signing if he can make the step up to Men's football:

https://www.ctfc.com/news/2018/july/signing-jacob-maddox/

We've also confirmed the signing of Manny Duku on a 2 year deal:

Best of Luck to Manny with you guys... he’s truly a great lad. Always gave time to come over and talk to the people of our club. Although obviously very disappointed to see him leave he deserves this chance after last season.

The only thing he needs to learn is to be able to take the odd bit of criticism here and there! Something he didn’t really do to good on dealing with whilst with us.

Good luck to all for the forthcoming season.

Yeah Wyke. They’ll probably be looking to replace him soon as Sunderland and Bolton are both trying to get him.

Cheers Garth, he seems a risk worth taking - apparently he's a new record sale for you. Although it's been pointed out on our forum this must be since your merger as Jason Roberts left one of Hayes or Yeading (sure it was Hayes) for £250k and we haven't paid more than that.

Liam McAlinden coming in seems to be a story gathering pace - thoughts Exeter fans?

McAlinden is decent enough. He’ll work hard, has good movement, fairly quick and he’s got the ability to score a fair number of goals. He was often used off the bench for us and in his first season he scored some crucial goals. Last season he struggled to find the net but there’s definitely a good player there and he was very highly rated at Wolves a few years back.

If he gets regular games he’s capable of 10-15 goals per season and I’d have been happy if we’d kept him on.

McAlinden is a frustrating one.

He does have good ability and started last season playing really well (had a very good game away at Cheltenham). His main issue is he is ridiculously lackadaisical in front of goal. I lost count of the number of times last season when he'd be through 1-1 with the keeper only to pass it softly to him instead of putting his foot through it.

He was completely frozen out towards the end of last season where he wasn't even making the bench for games so it was no real surprise he was released. There is a good player in him though, just think he needs a more ruthless edge to his game.

Signed Lewis Ward from Reading on loan for the season to play between the sticks. Seems highly rated, and also absolutely fucking massive.

Cracking signing, was one of our best players when he joined. Like you say, he’s huge but also a good shot stopper and likes to play out from the back with his feet. Nice bloke too.
Expected him to go to L1 or challenge for #1 at Reading.

We’re signing a PL defender on loan after he plays for his club today. Presume a young lad - no idea who.

Much needed! Still think we are 2 or 3 light but sounds like Brown is trusting the youth a bit more this season. Seems he rates Twine and Romanski which is good news.

I like Romanski as a footballer, but he is terribly lightweight for a CB. Give him a go as cover for full back. Twine needs to be given a chance to get his confidence up. The 2 he got last night should help. If the club has any intention of actually paying for a striker, I’d nominate another Matt Taylor from Bristol City. How many clubs have ever had 2 players with the same name?
