Can’t see JR wanting rid if he’s genuinely after promotion, id expect its flitcroft. I can understand us letting. Angol go, though I’d still be disappointed to see it happen

You always have to put a 50/50 on if Darragh is talking complete shite or not, this is the same bloke that suggested he didn’t speak to Evans until he resigned to go to Chins, which is strange considering he had to pay Mansfield £250,000 in compensation.

Peel away the layers and you have a club flogging it's best striker on the open market a few days before the season and a player openly saying the gaffer isn't telling the truth on Twitter.

Can't be a great atmosphere

Had a fantastic pre-season until the last week.

Darragh is probably bullshitting though, compulsive liar that bloke.

Very odd tbh.. Even if Mansfield did want to sell Rose - have they just offered him to Posh or to a number of clubs and if it is a number of clubs then how amazing is it that they've been able to keep it quiet... He's a massive gobshite that loves the attention

We can have Rose back and we will give you Beckford in exchange.

We've accepted a £400k bid from West Brom for Tom James and he's having a medical today. Really sad to see him leave as he's a fantastic prospect but we all knew it was going to happen so it's good to get a decent amount for him.

Say what you will about Mansfield but you can almost always rely on them for a thoroughly enthralling meltdown every couple of years. Top stuff once again, guys.

Definitely a very entertaining football club to follow, it’s only going to be a meltdown if we sell Rose though.

Someone on our forum put this up

From "I am the Secret Footballer":

"A new manager needs to stamp his authority on the squad quickly and to achieve this very often he will sacrifice a player... It doesn't matter if the player is capable and well liked (actually, these players are the preferred targets). The process generally involves the player being singled out for ridicule in training and made an example of at every opportunity, before being sent to train with the kids and ostracised from the first team."

Sounds familiar?

TSF goes on to say that he dislikes this approach, as it shows a complete lack of man management skills

It does in Andersons case but not so much Rose from what we have seen up to yet.

Martin Allen did exactly this with John Finnigan at Cheltenham. He made him do shuttle runs until he was physically sick - named him in matchday squads when he wasn't fit and tried to turn the players, board and fans against him. Eventually Finners went to Kidderminster to work under Mark Yates.

Finners is now the Commercial Manager at Cheltenham and Martin Allen is a swearword at Whaddon Road.

George Maris leaving us for Rotherham apparently.

Another annoying departure on the eve of a season, I expect us to lose our best players and we obviously can't control when teams decide to put bids in, but it's bloody frustrating.

This was always going to happen when they altered the stupid transfer window for the football league. Why did they have to copy the premier league? It's stupid and means potentially teams have to sell without getting an adequate replacement in until Christmas

We do, yet still somehow keep moving in the right direction, which is even more baffling

The only conclusion I can come to is that he and DF simply don't get on - he wasn't the same player when DF came to the club (mind quite a few weren't!) and I don't really buy the "injury" situation either.

Letting him go at this time of the season would make no sense whatsoever to anyone, and would clearly be a negative to the team. It'll be interesting to see what JR thinks of it all, as Rose is a big favourite with the fans, and given the disastrous ending of last season, despite a good pre-season it won't take long for fans to turn on him if he does sell him and results don't start well.

I hope that nothing in the last sentence happens, or has to happen

We probably have his replacement (not as good/proven) already in the squad so if it happens the budget released may be recycled elsewhere - possibly someone like Billy Waters or another lead-the-line striker.

More likely, if anthing happens it will be a loan because of the later window. If we actually manage a new signing I'll be very impressed.

It was always likely to happen (hopefully Jevani Brown will be with us at least until January), so we should have had a plan B.

Fortunately, George Maris will still be under 24 at the end of the season, so if we have the balls/cash to deny him a move closer to home at this stage we'll still be due some (pitiful) compensation even if he runs his contract down.

I can't see it happening. We need the money (now or in January) and our pitch to young players is that we won't stand in the way of their progression - in fact our aim is to help them develop and move to a higher level.

Unfortunately Jevani Brown will be 24 in October so if we want to cash in on him we'll need a contract extension or a January transfer.

Roll on 5 p.m. next Thursday. :(

Is Futcher still with Fatcroft?
If you listen to the jungle drums he is the one always falling out with players and DF then moves them on.

Mansfield and Lincoln have both had bids rejected for Rod McDonald at Coventry during the pre-season according to the Coventry Telegraph.

No idea if either are still going for him, but it would be a good signing for both teams.

Just curious about your figures, why would Angol be worth that much more than Rose?

That's an easy one Paul - Angol's younger than Rose.

Anyway I'm sure you know that I haven't got the foggiest how much they'll go for, but I always find it amusing seeing the (what the fans think is the) player's valuation going up in no time at all.

Ok, butdo you know who that one is? I don't think there's anybody in the squad right now that can play in Maris' position - O'Neil is a DM, Lambe is more of a traditional winger from what I've been told (Piero's replacement) and Jevani is not the ideal candidate for that position.

there's Osadebe but tbh something tells me he'll start a couple of matches then never be seen again in a amber shirt, though I hope he proves me wrong.

Lincoln offered 500k I've heard.
