I am actually pleased we have brought Stockton back. It does not surprise me that he did not impress at Carlisle, but I am not sure his spell there will have much bearing on how he performs for us.One of the stranger transfer stories of the summer. Cole Stockton's contract has been terminated by mutual consent, allowing him to join Tranmere.
We have a very thin squad, Stockton only joined us in January and did pretty much nothing last season but you always wonder with January signings, especially when they've not had much action in the first half of the season if they'll be a different player after a summer. That said it sounds like he was on a high salary for a player unlikely to make the first team and HG will no doubt be delighted he's gone.
Then we've brought in Adam Campbell on loan from Morecambe. Since it would be fair to say anyone finishing below Morecambe is highly likely to be relegated, taking their castoffs is downright bizarre, however there possible is a little more to it than that, as he has played under Sheridan before at Notts County and had a decent record in that spell, so Sheridan clearly sees him as a player who he should sign if available.
He actually made his professional debut playing for us, back when we were relegation-bound in League One on loan from Newcastle, came on as a late sub in a game we lost 4-0 to Bradford and was then sent straight back to Newcastle. Some fans feel they can pass judgement on him from their vague recollection of this game. I do hope this turns out to be a shrewd move though.
He is very much a confidence player who needs to be under the right manager, and he was excellent under Mellon in his first spell here, averaging about a goal every two games and keeping Andy Cook out of the side. Whether he can repeat that kind of form a division higher I don't know, but I would expect him to have a decent season.
