Crawley sign Jack Payne from Maidstone. The Peckham Pirlo by all accounts.

I've heard his good in a good team. He'll be crap for us!

I think we are planning on lining up as a 2 4 4 That's two at the back. No defenders and masses of midfielders and forwards on the books.

Apparently Southend and Colchester are also interested.

Bucketts lol

Surely the fact he’s in training today suggests we’re at the front of the queue then. Can’t think it’ll be any other reason than he’d be pretty much guaranteed to be a starter here with all the competition for places in our attack.

Colchester joined league in 1950 and basically moved between third and fourth division on a regular basis except for two years in conference about 1990 and two years in championship about 2007

We’ve got Peterborough winger Isaac Buckley-Ricketts training with the club. No idea if he’s any good or not, the fact he’s considering coming here suggests he probably isn’t highly sought after.

In fact I’ve just looked and since signing for Peterborough last summer he hasn’t made a single appearance for them. Sums up where we’re at, but beggars can’t be choosers.
He is brilliant by all accounts.

Close to two strikers but probably won't be joining until nearer the end of pre season. That's an annoying wait.

He makes midfield tick, keeps things moving across the field, pure class with his precise passing.
Im very surprised he is playing L2 football. I think he will stand out at this level.

He is brilliant by all accounts.

So brilliant that in a whole season Peterborough didn’t even bring him on off the bench, not once.

I presume he’ll play in our friendly v Hibs on Tuesday, so I’ll see if I see any potential brilliance in him.

You are probably right, I haven't spent that much time looking at the history of Colchester, weirdly I have always considered them a 'non-league side' (like Stevenage or Crawley), probably because of their fantastically non-league ground Layer Road.

As to where they 'belong', there is another thread for that so probably best to end that discussion here :)

Yeah, apart from two years in the Conference (finishing runners-up one season and winning it the next), and two years in the Championship to balance it out, we've spent eternity bouncing between the third and fourth divisions. I think we've actually just about spent longer in the third tier than the fourth, and our average finish in the fourth is around 8th so we should generally be there or thereabouts in this division.

On a similar note, though, the best one was when we signed Clinton Morrison in League One a few years ago and he came out with the gem: "We're all in it together and we want to get Colchester United back into the Championship, where they belong." He was a moron.

We’ve got four today although not openly named them like we usually do!

Two that have been imaged are:

Goalkeeper Maddison - was at Darlington last year.

Kwane Thomas - ex Solihull Moors, Coventry and Derby.

Unsure which of the others have seemingly stayed around as yet.

Shaun Cummings at right back on trial, he would be a good addition I would think with his background at Reading etc

Paul Taylor would be a decent signing, if he has gotten over his “problems”. He’s good for 5/6 screamers per season.

Lassana Diarra woud be an impressive signing if he's not totally past it, was good at Arsenal, Portsmouth and Chelsea before going to Spain. Can't imagine too many ex-Real Madrid and France internationals have played in league 2.

Taylor was a good player a few years ago. Not sure about now or how old he is.

I'd take a 1 year flyer on Taylor. He's clearly not got a lot of options if he's taking a trial with us. A short term deal as a back up striker could work out ok.

We was told another signing is soon days ago now so I dunno what’s gone off, unless they are waiting to get back to England, maybe another Jet2 fare is too much.
