Jon Flatt, Liam McAlinden and former Saddler Alex Nicholls trialed for us today at Alfreton. All looked pants to be honest, Flatt was the least shite out of all 3.

We was told another signing is soon days ago now so I dunno what’s gone off, unless they are waiting to get back to England, maybe another Jet2 fare is too much.

Probably waiting to get one of the Concordes out of retirement, get her flyable and have a gold plated stag embossed rather than Jet2 :bg:

We had two trialists today, Dan Jones is rumoured to be one, what's he like guys?

Apparently we've had a few former Notts players training with us this week.

Jones was excellent at LB season before last, especially going forward. Contributed one particularly good assist at Cov in the play-offs when he robbed Grimmer with a superb sliding tackle in the rain before whipping a cross in for Jonny Forte to convert. Scored 4 or 5 too. Then last season was affected by the malaise that afflicted a lot of our outstanding performers from the previous 12 months. Poor start then didn’t really get a look in. Think fans of his other clubs might tell a similar story. But if he’s on form he’s a good player at this level. Fantastic delivery on him. Not getting any younger though.

Will never get any positive reports on him from Vale fans. Lowest of the low. The only time we’ve made back page national headline news mind!

31, seems to have been around for quite a while though.
It’s not his football ability that’s the issue, the amount of screamers he scored for us was brilliant it’s his reoccurring ‘off field problems’ that keep cropping up time and time again.

Putting the off field thing aside he was a very decent attacking left back.
The caveat is that it was 12/13 he played for us. Not sure on his age now but being released by a relegated team isn't great unless was on big bucks.

He wasn’t great IMO il always remember Wolves away when he put in one of the feeblest efforts in! Was more bothered about his hair than getting stuck in.

Hopefully now he's in his 30's he's matured abit. He was certainly the stand out trialist.

I suspect it’s more deep rooted than that, he left us for ‘personal reasons’, signed on again for Doncaster then had his contract mutually terminated there. There’s a bit online about what he got up to in Belgium I’ll try find. Anyway a scorer of great goals but not someone I’d rely on.

If we were to sign him he would be a back up option id expect.

2 days to go until our first preseason friendly and we still don’t have any strikers. We have a couple of wide players that can probably fill in if need be, but it’s hardly ideal preparation for the upcoming season.

An absolute mess.

Flatt was rubbish for us... very slow and not very agile. McAlinden couldn't get in the team and IMO is not a FL player will be an average player in NL.

According to Sky Sports, we’ve had a bid rejected by Dundalk for their fullback Cameron Dummigan. This is completely out of the blue and could also be a random Sky rumour but can’t say I know the Irish league well enough to comment on him.

Edit: although I now see he played for Burnley and Oldham for a bit! Jolley will know him from his Burnley days. Oldham fans, how is he?

I really liked him. Similarly to Rob Hunt, we thought we'd pulled off an incredible signing when we made his loan permanent, but he didn't progress a lot from being a kid. Fine player though, another that suddenly became out of favour, possibly due to our owner deciding he didn't like him.

Edit: Possibly injury prone?

Check out his goal at 1:32... and wow I know we went down, but we were really good to watch at points in 17/18...

I blame the numberless shirts for Mansfield’s shock defeat.

We're supposed to be signing Dean Gerken at some point this week. Has to be an improvement on our goalkeeping efforts last year. Was never 100% convincing back in the day, but we were two levels higher than this back then and he's had ten years to get better.

I expect a lot of movement this week for transfers. Still a lot of good quality free agents without a club and with the start of the season less than four weeks away, this week it should force players to make their minds up on the choices of clubs they want to join.

We’ve got Peterborough winger Isaac Buckley-Ricketts training with the club. No idea if he’s any good or not, the fact he’s considering coming here suggests he probably isn’t highly sought after.

In fact I’ve just looked and since signing for Peterborough last summer he hasn’t made a single appearance for them. Sums up where we’re at, but beggars can’t be choosers.

He is/was shite when on loan at Oxford
