We had striker Kelsey Mooney on trial last night who by all accounts had a decent game. Any good Cheltenham fans?

He's ok - not brilliant. Never really given much of a chance once Duff came in. There's a player there, but it's hard to judge as he hasn't played much men's football.

Gav Gunning has signed for Billericay.
Really shock news as when we lost him to yourselves i thought that we had given Paolo Maldini a free transfer such was the furore amongst Vale fans.

He was ok, no more no less , for some bizarre reason he was used as the example of why we nearly went down just because we let him go

So we’ve let go 3 of our 5 trialists as none of them are good enough.

With the Dixon and Etuhu injuries, that leaves us with 14 fit players with 2 weeks to go until the season starts. That could become 13 if Hope is sold before then.

And that includes 2 first year professionals, a goalkeeper that has never made a competitive appearance for us.

No signings on the way by the sound of it.

And people think we won’t get relegated!

We’ve let Shamal George and George Newell go after trials. Still looking at D’Ath, Krastev (keeper). Think Lloyd Isgrove was a done deal before he had a trial - looks a right good signing that.

You want Diagouraga back? Wellens has told him and McGlashan to find another club.

Charlie Goode straight in as our Team Captain for the season replacing Aaron Pierre...
Nicky Adams as Club captain.
Surprised with that, was never seen as a leader here. Was always the quiet CB next to McArdle or Burgess. Hope he does well though.

Curle is full of suprises. Last night, he played Adams at LWB who all last year was at RWB for Bury. A CM at RWB and a LWB at CB. Who knows what goes on in his head.

Our form nose dived in fairness after he left, we went from 11 clear after destroying Luton 4-0 to not winning for 3 months having won 4 and drew 1 of five prior to that run...

If that was because he left or in spite of him leaving is a different matter. Whitfield lost his form so could of been down to that for example. I think he was a decent organiser and his absolutely nuts attitude seemed to help the dressing room.

Jon Flatt - Scunthorpe and Joe Anyon - Ex Vale keeper on trial apparently.

Anyon came through our academy and was nicknamed Teflon Gloves... after his spell in our first team!

Flatt was decent for us in our last 10 Conference games in 2016. Came back for the start of the 17/18 season and appeared to have gone backwards. Absolutely dreadful for a month or so before we brought in Scott Flinders.

Suffers from the same issue that most young keepers do these days and that's an inability to keep hold of the ball, instead choosing to punch or palm it away all the time. More often than not, it then fell to an attacking player who would sweep in the rebound.

Why?
Please explain.

Both Tamplin and Gunning are very popular with Grimsby fans, and that given, will quite possibly will both come to the club as a chairman/player manager double act in the future when they've taken Ricay as far as they can, much like the Cowleys at Lincoln.

To be fair, Flatt would be a decent back-up, but you wouldn't want him in goal for an extended spell.

Not that Scott Brown is ever injured.

I miss Scott Brown.

I don’t think that’s his point? His point is what is Lowe going to next season when he hasn’t got any ex-players to sign? Signing players you trust is fine in small doses but it’s not showing much thought if he’s just taking the whole team with him. You would have thought that Lowe would have his own network and knowledge of players? I’m sure that most managers at this level do their own signings.
Is he not just being opportunistic because so many of his former squad are available? Most managers will try and bring in players from their previous club but it's not often we're talking about a promotion winning squad where you can almost help yourself to any player you can convince into signing for you.

Been a shit week all round really. The triallists all threatened to show some potential in that first game against Hibs... I was hopeful.

If it's guaranteed to be the Diagouraga we had before then I'd come and pick him up myself.

As it is, sounds as if he he's a bit too much of a risk.

Flatt didn't look great but only on limited viewing last season, may get better with more games. Anyon was alright for us a few years ago but fairly sure he wasn't rated at Chesterfield in the conference last year.

Thats the issue, Scott Brown has been so good and so reliable essentially your coming in as a number 2 and only a number 2 which is a hard sell I guess... hence why Hornby left.

Why would anyone down here expect to have a particularly good no. 2 keeper? Only chance of that is if you get in a veteran who's happy to do some coaching alongside being back up imo. Anything else and you won't keep both for long.

Would you believe there are still Cheltenham fans who don't rate him. An old guy who sits by me is adamant he's useless.

Then again, I'm always disagreeing with him on players - he still maintains Danny Wright is of Football League standard (he isn't btw).

Thought you’d signed Matty Stevens from Posh.

I know that, but I’d heard you’d bid £75,000 for him.
