No guarantees those ex Bury players will reproduce the winning formula at Plymouth. Mayor has never ventured south - can’t be arsed to check out the others. They may not settle, the non Bury players may resent them, the dressing room may split into 2 groups.

No telling how the amalgam will turn out.
I was thinking the same thing. And its not like Lowe is an experienced manager. I can see why Plymouth are doing it, but it may not work in another club. I will be watching to see how this goes.

To be honest if they can win promotion with all that was going on they must have some strength to their characters.

It is a bit OTT but if you can get them on the cheap it was always going to happen. I'm just surprised after a promotion they've decided to drop down again, especially Mayor who should be waltzing into L1 sides really.

What’s Hepburn Murphy like Cambridge fans? We’re rumoured to be getting him in on loan.
Has a lot of raw talent, but not developed enough yet for Championship and probably League 1 football as well. Which is why Villa are loaning him out. I don't think he's developed as quickly as they would have liked, but he's on tour with them in the States so I guess that shows that he's still highly thought of.

I wouldn't mind having him back at the Abbey.

What is Remi Streete like, Vale fans? We had him on trial today
Really hope it works out for him. A really good player sadly blighted by injury.
Strange stories that he was working locally for Arnold Clark garages as a salesman whilst trying to get fit.
One of numerous mysteries at Vale as it was all hush hush about his knees .
A fully fit Streete is League one I hope he can get back in the game and get himself a deal

Fans were furious thinking it was Brown making an excuse but turned out to be the case. Really weird as you say as he had pretty much played the season without issue.

The Mayor signing was a no-brainer, but the other three from Bury stink of lazy recruitment to me. Good players exist outside Gigg Lane you know!

How does football recruitment actually work these days? Anyone got any idea? I know we have a rookie head of recruitment, does he have a team of scouts or are recruitment and scouting separate teams? What does the manager do from club to club? What extent is the chairman's role? How are the responsibilities divided?

[BREAKING NEWS]
Carlisle United have taken defender Aaron Hayden on trial. The 22 year old ex Wolves youngster has been playing for Stourbridge recently.

Once again Carlisle United making huge statements of intent.
A defender too.

Perhaps we're hoping if we can recruit enough decent defenders we can just go the whole season without conceding and nick enough goals to stay up.

Think it would vary from club to club. Usually recruitment as in 'head of recruitment' means scout. When contract negotiations aren't led by the manager (usually the case these days) or the club's owner(s), then the person doing it is usually the director of football.

Clubs are always quick to reassure fans that the manager will draw up a list of targets and don't have players they don't want forced upon them, but we all know there are some owners out there who like to think they know better.

Carlisle United move quickly to quash rumours that a lack of strikers means goalkeepers Adam Collin and Louis Gray aren't being tested enough in training. However this footage taken during open play in an 11v11 match behind Brunton Park only invites further questions.

Just before Adam’s got fired we employed a head of recruitment. One of lowe’s first actions was to fire him, saying that he and Schumacher know the players and agents and will do recruitment themselves.

Got to say Carlisle and you lot on here are really cranking up the entertainment value of this pre-season.

Bloody frustrating watching that. Aim it for the fucking corner man! Test them a bit.
Feel like driving down there tomorrow and going here give it to me!

Tbf the coaches are probably trying to accurately replicate the sort of shot your keeper will be facing in matches. The "League 2 Striker" difficulty level.

Sad, what's the likelihood of you being able to start or complete the season?
50/50
What sort of squad we would have and what state we would be in can best be described as shit!!
Just had a read of the Argyle message board re the amount of Bury players they have signed and our attitude to what's gone on.
99% of Bury fans wish the ex-staff and players nothing but the best, some of my best memories in football are from last season.
NOTHING against Argyle talking all the players they can get to move to Devon, we simply could not afford to continue in the batshit crazy way we conducted business.
Just praying we survive and have FINALLY learned the lesson well, I'm not convinced my prayers will be answered.

I guess you need to find a way to escape from the hamster-wheel of crooks and shit-peddlers who seem to line up one after another to be Bury's saviour. Although be totally understandable if you just started assuming anyone who says they'd like to own Bury FC was dodgy.

Unsavoury characters like Day and Dale never seem to be far away from lower league football clubs, most are just fantasists who think that because they managed to build a semi-stable property business on dodgy deals that they have the business acumen to succeed where almost everyone else has failed. Some are also vultures for whom the idea of losing money in business is unthinkable and they will make sure that they benefit financially even if it's at the expense of everyone else connected with the club. Some are also actual criminals.

Why Bury seem to attract so many of these I've no idea. Perhaps it's something to do with the amount of money being spent on football within a 10 mile radius of Gigg Lane leading people to see pound-signs; or maybe it's just a vicious cycle that kicked off when Bury first landed in financial trouble, whenever that was. That first bad owner replaced by a second and soon the hole had been dug too deep for anyone with actual principles to get involved.
