To be honest if they can win promotion with all that was going on they must have some strength to their characters.

It is a bit OTT but if you can get them on the cheap it was always going to happen. I'm just surprised after a promotion they've decided to drop down again, especially Mayor who should be waltzing into L1 sides really.
The difference between Bury last season and Plymouth this season is that the auto spot race last season was essentially 3 teams going for 4 places. Can't see that being the case this season, it'll be much more open.

Not so convinced it will be more open...

Bradford, Plymouth, Mansfield and possibly Salford if they start spending as most expect...

Some teams look weaker from the play off race last year such as FGR and possibly Colchester, some of the lower teams looks better such as Cobblers, Grimsby, Vale so i think the tighter area of the league will be mid table, possibly the last couple of play offs spots within that but hard to see past Bradford, Plymouth and Mansfield with their spending so far... unless one does a Notts for example!

I get why he's doing it, go with what you know and all that, but I still think it's lazy. Sign one or two, fine, but I just think it's getting a bit silly now. The players he learned to trust at Bury were once outsiders as well, it's an inherent part of a manager's job to take risks on new players. But sometimes those risks pay off and you end up with better players that you had previously.

(assuming you play or have played a football manager/champ manager type game) If you start up a game and end up signing players that are consistently good and live up to their potential, when you start a new game do you try and resign these players for the new club, or do you try different players?

Its a bad analogy but I'm more in the camp that I would always try and sign the players that I know have been good for me previously.

I do understand where you are coming from however. Another thing to be wary of is if Lowe signs too many of his Bury clan, does he run the risk of cliques appearing in his squad?

That's kinda my point though. I'd sign Cherno Samba (or in this instance, Danny Mayor) but I wouldn't bring four or five of his former teammates with him. I'd then set up a broad scouting network that wasn't just reliant on stealing players from one club, cos' sooner or later than supply will run dry.

Interesting. He goes on to say:
He then goes on to say:
“I’ve heard rumours Carlisle may also be in trouble, but rest assured Carlisle fans I will not be stealing any players from your club as I’ve been reading this forum and it appears that they don’t actually have any fucking players to steal.”

Salford have signed our back up keeper, Kyle Letheran. I could give a quick assessment of him, but as there appear to be no Salford fans on this forum I won’t bother. Good luck to the man.

Alex Palmer signs on a season long loan from WBA. That’s the goalkeepers sorted.

Out of interest are Bury and Bolton both starting the season on -12 points ( yes I Know this is League 2 )
I've either dreamt this or am talking complete bollocks .

Yes. Plus I think Bolton are still waiting to hear what punishment they’ll get for not fulfilling a fixture.

Nothings confirmed yet. We're just as likely to go pop as much as us starting on -12 points.

So you're saying Plymouth should put a stop to who Lowe wants to sign and set up a broad scouting network instead?

No, they should do as they see fit. Just giving my opinion.

So in your opinion/if you were in charge at Plymouth - you'd tell the manager he is not allowed to sign the players he wants (other than Mayor) and explain that instead you will be setting up a broad scouting network?

How will that help for the season coming? Presumably it will take time to A) assemble this network and B) find the players/get them in?

That is just part of what was done at Bradford over an 18 month period. Worked so well, I can't see us in league 1 fixtures(should I look at the championship?) and our now single owner is trying to clear the debts of a club that made a profit in 9 of the previous 10 years. Think Ryan Lowe knows enough about football for his owner to back his ideas.

I don’t think that’s his point? His point is what is Lowe going to next season when he hasn’t got any ex-players to sign? Signing players you trust is fine in small doses but it’s not showing much thought if he’s just taking the whole team with him. You would have thought that Lowe would have his own network and knowledge of players? I’m sure that most managers at this level do their own signings.

Lowe got rid of our newly appointed head of recruitment, saying that he and Schumacher have played and coached in the league for over twenty years and they have the contacts with players, managers and agents. I get the point about next year, but if he is right, and it is an if, he has other players. I guess from his perspective players he coached last year are low hanging fruit, so why go yet for the harder to reach ones. Especially as we always come up against the too far to move to issue when recruiting.

We've still got Christian Mbula and Paul Taylor on trial. Both done well so far in particular Taylor who I'd quite like us to sign. We also brought in a pair of Bristol City youngsters on trial with a view to loan deals. Harvey Smith a centre half who scored tonight at Curzon Ashton. And Freddie Hinds a striker. Also abit more talk of the mystery south American trialist. He was at one of our friendlies tonight but didn't play. Dave Artel was speaking Spanish to him.

Rumours that Adam Hammill will be off soon, will be annoying to lose him as he will do very well in this league.

Taylor is a erm, ‘character ‘.

Comes with loads of baggage such as issues with drugs (allegedly).

Also thinks he is better than he actually is imo although some Peterborough fans loved him. Incredibly greedy.
