Wait...YEAR OF THE STAG was actually originally said by Radford?! I must have either not realised that at the time or forgot it since. I thought it was just a 1FF thing

Well obviously it’s sometime ago, but he said something relatively similar

Even Radford’s filthy lucre couldn’t interest him.

I’m sure those 2 you’ve signed will sort you out.

I’ve explained it before, I think Radford may have said it but all you guys in the non-league forum had a private chat to make the sign for the forum avatar saying ‘YEAR OF THE STAG’ It was a Wrexham fan who made it up, but all the Staggies ended up putting it in their own profile.

Problem is after Christmas we lost like once and won the title, so it kinda backfired

Someone better? Someone who’ll score 25+ goals in L2?

Yeah, right.

Like mentioned I reckon we would be signing the Bradford Doyle, surely he should have a shot at L1 after his season anyway, not sure if he’s good enough mind?

Who remembers Jumping John? He always had good insider knowledge. I remember for some time thinking it John Radford. I eventually told myself it was ridiculous, a bit like the time I thought I had seen David Beckham at a petrol station in Blidworth.

Haha there was definitely not a non-Mansfield chat, I'd have remembered that. Well if there was one, I wasn't in it.

Certainly a lot of jealousy anyway.

The stick we got when in mid table made that run to the title so satisfying.

Interesting when you look at that league though, us and Newport haven’t really done much since we came up over the span we’ve been here - this will be our 7th each next season.

Wrexham are STILL in the conference, now they went down the same season as us, so they’ve now had 12 fun seasons down there (urgh) and poor Kidderminster imploded.

LOL definitely no jealousy from us. Much more satisfying to go up after back to back to back playoff fails with a sensible budget.

Wrexham didn't ever have a top budget either, so understandable really. They got royally shafted by having their best season when Fleetwood had Vardy absolutely pissing all over the division too.

See Crewe have been linked with Nicky Maynard (Again). Same rumor appeared 12 months ago, although he was training with Crewe to gain some fitness after leaving Bury.

With Chris Porter yet to sign an extension, we need to bring in a couple of strikers. Even if Porter does resign, I wouldn't hate Maynard/Porter as options next season.

Reluctantnicko on twitter has said Carlisle are looking to sign Jamie Devitt.
Would be a surprise. We might have a different manager but it's the same boardroom who offered him only a one year deal last season. For this rumour to have any legs at all we must have changed our contract policy.

Lives manchester way, so wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility, he’s going to leave us that’s for sure. Sadly it didn’t work out for him or us, despite his 15 goals or so last term.

I think he’d be good enough for league 1 for sure, I’d be happy if I followed Crewe and were signing him.

I think that did change with the January signings, signed till end of the following season rather than till the end of the season as was the case in the previous January. Hopefully it’s true as Devitt is a quality player for this level, but being Carlisle United I’m prepared for disappointment.

Yeah I thought it was good we gave 18 month contracts to players we signed in January, but then again the alternative of a six month contract, you only really use when you aren't really thinking long term and every player you sign is a bit of a punt.

Beech, and any manager we spoke to would have demanded the ability to sign players for the future. I doubt we'd have been able to sign the likes of Anderton, Guy and Patrick had we only been offering six month contracts.

We wouldn’t have you’re right and maybe we will still only offer 1years this summer, but fact is January 2019 we were signing likes of Scougall, Grant etc on 6 month deals, then summer 2019 signing players on 1 years. So hopefully fact in January 2020 we have 18 month deals is a sign that summer 2020 we’re willing to give 2 year + contracts out.
I don’t mind I’d signing some on 1 years, especially young lads with it all to prove, but we have to be flexible if we want to attract quality like Devitt etc

Genuinely thought this morning when I saw that Stech was being released, that he would be joining Mansfield.

He saved a penalty at Field Mill a couple of years ago in probably his best performance for us. He is a decent enough keeper; lost his confidence totally and became unreliable. Threw the ball in the net a couple of times, but more of a mental thing I think. Got overtaken by Shea and then also Sluga and Isted. Became fourth choice in the end.

We won’t be signing Maynard, I doubt we can afford him and he doesn’t fit into our system. Very rarely works out well when players return, he won’t be as good as he was in first spell anyhow.

In fairness we weren’t blessed with goalkeepers last season.

Bobby olejinik came back from injury but unfortunately was a shell of his former self, and we let Logan go to forest green to sabotage their hopes.

For me Stech has a lot of ability if his head is in the right place. He is a solid League 1 keeper when it is.

He is also a thoroughly decent bloke, so I don't know why he's gone to Mansfield...

Stech started as the number 1 for 2 seasons in a row here, but lost his place both times to Shea due general sloppiness really. Started really well and looked solid but then in the January of the L2 Promotion season had a mare against Lincoln where he literally threw the ball in his own net and just seemed to lose all confidence.

A bit of a weird observation maybe but I always thought he was a bit too muscular for a keeper and lost some of his agility as a result.

Hope he does well though, was brought in here to be the outright number 1 I think but never made an issue when he lost it and really supported Shea with it.

I was about to mention that game and at the other extreme he made some great saves in the 0-0 at SB earlier in the season.
