Played one game for us on loan in our 21-22 run in and then did his ACL. Don't think he's played since. Good luck to him
yeah - he looks like a back up who could come good if he stays fit. A low risk signing who Pete Wild already knows.

Nick Townsend has signed a 2 year extention with us !! happy with that as he is our best keeper, so that leaves the door open for flynn to take Joe Day to Swindon a move that would'nt surprise me in the slightest as he has already signed him on two other occations.

Think we’re after Tom King for keeper

I'm starting to realise that next season L2 is looking much stronger than the whole bottom half of L1 with all these big signings being made already without anyone actually being signed yet.

All setting up for the Hollywood circus.

I’ve seen the ‘pissing money away on a load of names that look good’ tactic fail more often than I’ve seen it succeed in this division. Solid, well drilled sides are the way forward IMO and we’ve seen loads of them sort of sides go up.

Wrexhams travelling circus will no doubt bring with them some obscenely high fees/salaries but you can guarantee it won’t be easy, don’t forget they somehow managed to fuck it up in the national league at the first try.

I can only think of Ryan Jones who hasnt featured much in the first team but has been loaned out (he does look a good prospect - turned down Peterborough for us apparently)
Out of the contracted players, Trevor Clarke was loaned out for most of last season and doesnt seem to be in Bartons plans. Ryan Loft doesnt seem to be good enough for L1 so he may also be transferred.
I can see it being Ryan Loft if there's anything to the rumour. He's got the kind of diamond in the rough profile we'd take a chance on and wouldn't be expensive.

Curtis Main the latest name linked. St Mirren’s manager has gone on record pretty much hinting his wage can be double/trebled in the EFL.

On paper and going off what ex-club fans are saying it would be an unusual one. Especially as one of the only things we lacked last season was pace upfront. Sounds like a bulldozing type of striker but we already have two of the type.

At this point it’s impossible to tell which rumours may have substance or which media outlets are looking for clicks from us.
Crikey, there's a blast from the past. I can remember him breaking through as a young lad in his Darlington days!

Just checked and he's only 30!

Looks like we’re about to sign Danny Rose from Stevenage

We’re going down the data driven money ball route this year and Rose appears to tick some of those boxes.

The guy leading it for us (worked with Plymouth last year and has held top jobs at UEFA) did an interview last week and explained they’ve been looking to mirror previously successful sides from this level in terms of squad composition, size, interactions with different positions etc. I’d imagine because Rose has been part of successful sides in the division without the goal stats being great, suggests he’s the first part of a complicated sounding puzzle.

He can play in goals too.... not that we'll, but the same applies to half the goalies in league 2.

Another one of our ex keepers that Flynn signed then got shot of as he decided King just wasn;t good enough even though he was one of the 3 keepers in the welsh squad at the time.

We tried that last season, so beware! We’ve ditched it along with the back room staff responsible for it and 2 managers .

I doubt Danny Rose fits that model, though. It’s down to unearthing undervalued youngsters and hoping they’ll improve enough to make some moolah in a couple of years. You have to kiss an awful lot of frogs to get 1 Prince!

If you just did it just based on unearthing young players to sell on then I’d say you’re doing it wrong.

The model appears to be based on bringing in a mix of sellable assets and players with experience, all for a decent price, Rose falls into the latter part of that for me.

Ridehalgh has signed a new one year deal. Just about acceptable if he's backup but I'll be livid if he's first choice again.

Yeah it’s a misunderstanding people have with us, we will sign old people too!

We’ve been incredibly successful with the data-driven recruitment model, but obviously it helps when it’s the owners’ day job.

He’s 30 and a basement player. How is he going to be worth money in the future?

Yeah, as Lew says we're not going purely down the lower level gem/underrated player route. That's part of it, but Rose ticks a lot of boxes. Has played in sides that do well, wins headers, rarely injured (happy to be corrected on that though), massive shithouse, loads of experience. He's hardly going to be signing of the season, but he's an upgrade on Ryan Taylor who was probably out of his depth last season. A solid if unspectacular start to our business but one that'll cause teams problems. Decent signing in my opinion.

Stockport County.
Hurst to turn up in a pair of trendy specs and converse on his feet opening day. Data driven Paul talking about the number of "box entries". Mid life crisis.

Dunno about Grimsby, but we’ve always been clear it’s about finding players who are ‘undervalued’ rather than it having to be young players with resale value. That said Rose has been a decent if unspectacular League Two striker for years, not sure it takes that much ingenuity to identify him haha.

Obviously this model is brand new for us, but Hurst's MO in the transfer market has always encompassed a bit of that. Some of our biggest players in recent times have been undervalued players that he's taken a risk on. Jon Nolan, Podge Amond, John McAtee, all massive players for us that contributed to promotions from the National League and all arriving with big question marks over them.

Agree on Rose too, it's entirely possible and quite plausible that he was on Hurst's list anyway. Probably put his name into the big data computer and it gave him a solid score to put his mind at ease though.

Likes a harrington jacket from time to time does Hursty. Would definitely fit the specs.

But signing experienced players is surely what every club does - well, nearly all - and can hardly be termed ‘money ball’ . Whatever attributes Rose has has been exposed during his career - it’s not rocket science needed by a manager deciding to sign him.
