We’re apparently signing a 19-year-old striker from Hull who couldn’t hack it on loan at Buxton earlier this year.

I’ve no idea what’s going on with our summer recruitment but we’ve not been linked with anyone decent.

Developing players. Players making memories, not money. Maybe one or two other clubs at this level should try it.

Developing Hull’s players?

Anyway it seems it might not be Simms we’re interested in and it’s actually a permanent contract for Tyler Smith.

A pacy striker with an inconsistent goalscoring record and a terrible loan spell at Oxford last season wasn’t what I thought we’d be after but it’s a big improvement on a guy who couldn’t force his way into Buxton’s team I suppose.

He seems to have done best at Barrow and Swindon so hopefully there fans on here can give us some positive reviews.

Tyler's been mentioned as one we might be interested in too, although just forum rumours. Was excellent on loan with us from Sheff Utd years ago. Quick and with an eye for goal.

We're signing a striker even Buxton thought was shit.

Christ. Reminds me of the Lamin Colly signing from our NLN days if true.

It's not him apparently.

I certainly wouldn't say he did well at Swindon. Pretty average if I remember and hardly scored any goals

Still nothing from Crawley other than Lindsey saying we are spinning a few plates.

We do have enough players under contract so no Biggie other than this lit almost got us relegated.

Connor McMenamin from Glentoran rumour still doing the rounds at our end.
Winger and we need a bit of width so would make sense.
Better than a goal every other game too.
Problem is, according the local rag over there, we are not the only ones interested.
Stockport amongst others.
If Stockport are involved we have very little chance.
Can’t compete with the money or the dreams!!

Tyler Smith was on loan in 20/21's forgettable Covid season under the dreadful stewardship of Jurassic John Sheridan. Tyler Smith had a pretty good loan spell to be fair. 7 league goals and 10 in all competitions I think was a good return. Compare him to Brett Pitman who played almost twice as much but only scored 2 more than Smith.

He doesn't appear to have kicked on much so maybe a shot in league 2 could pay dividends.

Would love him back here as a like-for-like replacement for Josh Gordon, but he’ll be well out of our price range.

Probably the most instinctive finisher I’ve seen in a Barrow shirt, so it was surprising that he has barely scored in the past few years.

Getting very mixed reviews on this fella. I can't make his career out. His YouTube compilation which is the height of my scouting sophistication makes him look like the Brazillian Ronaldo, banging in goals in various teams at this level or the one above colours, all types of goals but doesn't last long anywhere and as I say, very mixed reviews.

With Wootton (hopefully he won't miss too much of the start of the season), Madden, Olaofe and Stretton I wouldn't say striker is our most coveted position tbh.

His loan spell here feels like a long time ago now, and was only til Christmas when he got recalled and sent to Rochdale (I think), so it might have been a case of a teenager who was just in a purple patch. He definitely had the right attributes though, but no idea what his attitude was like or how he coped in a barren spell as he wasn’t here long enough.

We’re about to announce Cameron Norman from Newport.

Edit: confirmed, and he looks very good from his highlight reel.

My League 2 knowledge is a bit outdated though, anybody here that's seen him in more detail know what we should expect?

We are off the mark with Arnold. More to come today. We probably need 10 minimum.

He's always impressed me when we've played Newport. Good signing

Looks like Kyle Cameron has signed a new deal with us. Good news, got a rick in him but pretty unique player at this kind of level and key to how we play, attacking centre back. Been a good captain too. Good to get it done as been plenty of rumours he was having a dalliance with Stockport.

To be honest our defending in general is high risk high reward. It was clear the better teams in the division knew to just play balls diagonally to someone running in behind. Ndlovu and Dallas particularly showing this fragility.

Going to be seriously tested this season

I do rate Cameron though. Think he's clearly a leader and good enough for L2. Pace isn't so much of an issue for him as say Rawlo

Our theory is that strikers down here aren’t good enough to take advantage of getting in behind us two or three times in a game and will panic when they do and make the wrong decision. It worked in the NL with our defensive record, basically only Mullin properly punished it all season, but it’s a bigger test for it a level up. Although we were missing Brindley for almost the entire second half of the season who is our quickest centre back by miles, which didn’t help.

They're more likely to punish but they're not lethal by any means. Didn't see a better striker than Mullin last year here.

Just a bit better in every area, bit more clincal, bit more organised, bit better at keeping the ball etc. It's not groundbreaking, I'd play the same way if I were you, can't see Williams changing- managers like him are very set in how they play. Just endeavour to do it a bit better which I'm sure he and you will. I think you'll go well.

Close to signing 2 according to our local rag, no names which is for the best after the Williams fiasco.

It does give a final mention to the Williams transfer that the day or so before he did a U turn he was on the phone to Hughes saying how much he was looking forward to working with him until a significant increase on our offer turned his head. They’re welcome to the goblin.

absolutely no rumours our end. Most of our signings in the last 2 years have either only broken through hours before or have come out of the blue though.

Looks like we're signing Ibou Touray from Salford on a free. Very good left back in the division. I imagine he may be converted to a LCB for us if it's true. I'm pretty sure Salford will have wanted to keep him, no Salford fans on here to confirm or deny.
