Official unofficial confirmation this morning from Alan Nixon that we’re in for Jesse Debrah, fighting it out with Barnsley and Northampton. Nixon was pretty early in linking us with McGoldrick so seems to know his stuff.

Hopefully our resident God Squad will help swing it.
Are you the lastest club linked then? Earlier this week it was ourselves, Barnsley and Walsall. We've distanced ourselves from the move

There’s been talk all summer, the stats lads have been saying he’d be a perfect fit for us, but I’d not seen anything from a ‘proper’ journalist.

It looked like Barnsley had clinched it but maybe their off the field issues have scuppered it.

I don't think there's a club he hasn't been linked with over the last four or five days, his agent is doing a good job of getting his name out there and planting stories.

Him and Andrew Dallas have been a soap opera all summer. Both seemingly hoping to get lucrative contracts and get out of pre season training.
I'd be delighted with Debrah, Halifax were a tight unit in defence from Christmas onwards and he was the standout player. I'd like Dallas too but that's not happening.

We’ve signed goalkeeper Jamie Searle from Barnsley, in part exchange for Corey O’Keeffe according to reports. He’s barely played at club level but he has been capped by New Zealand. Should get on with our new CEO.
I'm just glad that we didn't sign the keeper who we had on trial for the Coventry game...would expect Searle to be number two, and not feature too often, unless Daniels gets injured.

Our squad is still looking a bit on the thin side, with quite a few players whose status is at best uncertain.

Dallas would be a good signing for any club at league two level. Debrah could easily slot in at league one

Dallas out of the two I could see playing national League next year if his hold out doesn't go the way he wants. Chesterfield would still take him as they have a bottomless pit of money

You lads have said he's finished for a while.
Surely DC just giving his mate 45 minutes and allowing us to make 11 changes in today's friendly? Hope so.

Er, 5. For 3 positions. The starting 3 are good but we are short on cover, especially the CAM position. I can see why we're looking. A striker is surely a bigger priority though.
Weve got a striker but he will cost lots of $$$$$$

And if he ends up at Chesterfield he will pretend that it was his preferred destination all along.

Some rumours about it as of yesterday but that may have just been so one picking it up from the Fishy, or vice versa.

I can't see it myself tbh.
Would be a cracking signing for you lot, in my opinion.

At 34 he may not be the player he was, but reckon he’d still be top quality at L2 level.

When he was at Carlisle he was probably one of the best centre backs I’ve seen play for us in my time watching. Class.

We had Oteh on loan 3 years ago. 3 goals in 18 appearances. Not the worst loan signing we've had, but don't think there were many fans wanting him back permanently.

Might be okay as back up for you, although not sure who your options are up front?
Danny Johnson Jamille Matt and 2 young lads one on loan who looks pretty good so far.

I know he did well with us last year, but that's literally the only good spell of his career. 4 months. Pretty much tanked everywhere else.

I'm not keen on Wright returning.

4 goals - 2 assists - 14 app

Deluded if you wouldn’t have him back.

Oh yes, he's a quality player. That play off performance was probably the best I've seen from an opposition player in two seasons. But unless we change formation I can't see where he plays.

I suppose if you can afford it having the luxury of really good young players isn't a bad one to have. And it would make a great episode of the documentary bringing him in after he thwarted us from achieving promotion two years ago.

Two questions though- his goal/assists return last season doesn't look amazing on paper, how did he do? And

Isn't he a bit of a prat off the field? We have a very tight squad so don't need someone messing up that dynamic.

His goals/assists last season don't really paint the full picture. He needed a shoulder op in pre-season and never got it done and ended up dislocating it about 5 minutes into the opener, then popping it back in and playing on. Then before the next match got sold to Luton and loaned back on the proviso that he had the op on our time so that was him out of the picture until November. In that time we adapted out system and learnt how to play without him, which was something we failed to do the previous season, that mighty slump we had pretty much coincided with him being out. So when he came back last season he was shoehorned in, being played up top on his own which didn't really suit him. I don't think he played with Ryan Taylor until March or something, which was frustrating when they'd been so good the season before. We were nowhere near as attacking last season as we were in the Conference season. He needs to be in a team on the front foot that will play to his strengths. Do you not play a midfield three? If you could switch that to a two with McAtee in the hole he'd fit in. One thing that his goal/assists stats from last season don't tell is the amount of work he does. He's all over the place, chasing lost causes. He'll have been up there for tackles won in opponents half/final third in the entire division I reckon.

Not a prat either from what I've seen, he's sound. Always talks honestly and isn't your standard robot footballer. Likes a beer by all accounts but there's absolutely no chance Hurst would have tolerated that for two seasons had it been a real problem.

No. It's my opinion thank you very much. He was decent and I've said as much but I don't agree with the clamour for his return.

He's had 4 good months in his career so far (with us) and since leaving us has played 5 games in 7 months (bizarrely at LWB), lost form and is now injured.

We are supposedly signing James Ball off Rochdale.

We are interested in Jeff King from Chesterfield. A right back is now probably top priority in terms of our recruitment, but doubt we'd be willing to spend what it will take for Chesterfield to let him go.

We've completed the free transfer of Scott Malone after his release from Millwall. Means that for the first time in years we have two competent left backs, plus gives us the option to play wing backs as well. Still need to address the forward areas, but looking hopeful that a couple may come in this week in those positions.

If you’re needing to ask where he plays because you’d need to adapt formations then it’s a bad signing IMO. He’s my favourite player from maybe the past 10 years, he’s absolutely class and on his day he could be a top championship player. However, last season we made the mistake of changing our way of playing to accommodate him after getting used to not having him for 3 months. It wasn’t his fault that we tried to play him as a striker but he suffered as a result and unless you’re going to play him as a #10 you won’t get the best out of him.

But as a #10, he’s probably the best we’ve maybe ever had in that position, he’s got the lot, a proper maverick and a joy to watch.
