Whats the record signing cost at this level? 400k must be pretty close.

Our record signing was 65k for Tony Kellow in 1980...!
The deal was for two players, not one.

Evans is just plucking figures out of thin air to get a message to his Chairman.

So you don't think you've committed to paying out £400k in this deal? Or if not, this transfer window overall so far?

That's without taking the wages etc these players must be commanding - and the agent fees too. And then there's apparently the Raggett contract offer you've made. You're splashing obscene amounts of cash around and you know it!

No, not all. Are you really taking something Steve Evans has said seriously? Our opening offer for Anderson was £30k, and if we've spent a decent amount on Bostwick, do you think we'd have only offered him a two-year deal?

Obscene is pushing it, but we're obviously paying decent wages (the spine of the team) and rightly so given that we're in a position to make these sort of moves having probably cleared £3m-£4m last season, 6k ST holders this season etc although there's obviously a wage cap at this level, which restricts things.

So I think this does confirm what I said a few days ago - Lincoln have a huge budget for this level and should rightfully be seen as joint favourites with Mansfield and Luton.

Chucking £400k around in the 4th division?! Obscene.

They had a huge budget last year too offering Arnold and ragget more money than we offered them but they don't like admitting it. Just do the opposite and moan about our budget which will be no where near the top this season. Most of our money will be from the pinnock deal about 700k that we can spend from that deal.

Which is therefore my point that you've got a huge budget for this level and so should rightfully be up there as joint favourites.

We'll find out when the accounts come out next year.

I'm not disputing that we're offering good wages to good players, I'm disputing the Bostwick/Anderson fee of £400k, which is complete bollocks and I know that for a fact.

Rumour now that Blackpool want Adams. Be an absolute disgrace if we lost him a week before the season, surely they aren't daft enough to accept any offer?
If it is a league 1 club interested, Adams is the obvious one. And if you are strapped for cash Curle may have little or no say. I feel for you, never nice if such an important player goes.

Wow... Based on the record transfer stats it seems that League 2 (and particularly the posh!) really rate keepers as being the most important squad members... The top 3 transfer records into the division are all keepers!

Kasper Schmeichel - Keeper - To Notts County - 2009 - £1.49m
Shwan Jalal - Keeper - To Peterborough - 2007 - £638k
Joe Lewis - Keeper - To Peterborough - 2007 - £510k

Kasper was worth every penny of a transfer we never really paid for!

The fees from that link are fake and wrong plus they missed out Brentford signing Hermann Hreidarsson whilst in this division for £850,000 in 1998-99!

Lewis only cost £400,000 IIRC, No chance Jalal cost that fee and Shrewsbury's record transfer fee is £175,000 for Grant Holt so no way they shelled out more than double that for Lionel Ainsworth!

I think our financial situation has shades of Doug Ellis era Aston Villa about it. Our so-called custodians are very old-fashioned and financially conservative, mainly concerned with running a steady ship, avoiding the financial dramas suffered by other clubs though at the same time always taking the cheap option, often promoting assistants to replace departed managers and whenever a signing comes down to money, we always get outbid by someone else. However they're not very good at putting the club out there and trying new ideas, and there's been little or no new investment so with that, falling gates and the amount of money in football ramping up each season, things are starting to overtake us. It's not helped either by their dated ways of running business, involving suited old men in boardrooms making gentleman's agreements and not telling the fans anything at all, puts people off and causes fans to speculate.

Posh's owner confirmed Blackburn offered far more than us, 250k he only came here as he lives in Stamford and didn't want to move his family to the northwest. I'd say we've paid around 200k for the two. Yes the club made a lot of money last season from our first ever FA cup round anything up to 3 million, plus a doubling of the gates earning around another 1 million, plus food, drink, programmes etc adding another decent sum. Also we've had 3 new directors come on board plus our South African investors have put more in since xmas. Our money has been earned by the exploits on the pitch and the knock on effects of having a successful team. This money is to last us more than one season otherwise we'll be back in non-league! That it what the chairman has told the local press on several occasions since we got promoted. Also Luke says we've sold loads of season tickets too.
It's not like other teams who are propped up by one person pumping loads of cash.

Could add Scott Laird to us as well, looks a superb signing.

MacAnthony is just as untrustworthy and unreliable as Evans. I wouldn't trust any of them on their words to be honest.

Funny how everyone deeply believes in their own clubs financial model and everyone else is just talking bollocks.

And yes I include ourselves in that. Truth be known no one on this board knows the true financial position at their club or anyone elses. Basic fact is you either worry about it or enjoy it choice is yours.

Normally I would agree with but he's spoken a lot sense this summer, which has scared me !
Like I say yes we have earned and brought in a lot of money in the last few months but our board have said we aren't going to blow it all this summer.
We've also missed out on a lot of players we've gone for too, as clubs including some in this league offered more in wages and fees to the selling club.

Great post, we will only found how much we've made last season at the AGM later in the year when the accounts are released and the fees for Anderson and Bostwick wont be until next years AGM !
None of the players last season drove especially flash cars if that's anything to go by LOL!!! Arnold had the nicest/newest car an A series merc on a 16 plate, even McCombe who'd played higher up drives a 14 plate mini! I only know what cars they have as I stood in queues for cup tickets when they turned up for training. Also think there was an article in one the nationals comparing our player's cars to the Arsenal players.

Why are signings of the summer being decided already?

They're not. With just over a week to the start of the season it was simply a list of (on paper) the best summer signings so far. Feel free to add your own suggestions, if you like.

The quality publication that is The Falkirk Herald have reported Craig Sibbald has left Falkirk again to come to Luton for a second trial after recovering from his groin injury. Would think he'd play a part against Leicester and Scunthorpe over the next few days. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

Have a feeling we'll have a few trialists on show at our game at Braintree today. We still need a striker and arguably a midfielder...

Would add Michael Doyle to Cov, think that's a class signing.

Is it me or have there been very few eye catching attacking players moving to this league this summer? Beyond Collins to Luton and Grant to Notts (possibly add McNulty to Cov), there's been very few players signed who you immediately think are going to score/create lots of goals. There's been quite a lot of good, solid defensive players bought , though.

Agree with the above. That's why you must fancy Luton for the title with their strike force.

I'm going to take a punt and say Smith on loan from Millwall will score a shedload for us this season.

Of course they do, at least a year afterwards anyway, we are a Plc and all our accounts each year are freely available online for anyone to look at.

Obviously not all clubs are plc's so accounts not so freely available.

He might be old but Chris Porter got 16 at this level last year for Colchester and he's joined us. Put him up top with Dagnall and it could be a 35-40 goal partnership if we're lucky!
