PlymBury going for it.

Incase I’m not around in a year’s time. Deepest sympathies to Plymouth. It’s the fans I feel sorry for (hope they enjoyed promotion tho). Great spirit from the players when not getting paid (again). Terrible evil owner. EFL clowns. Good luck in your new job at Salford Lowey. Yadda yadda.

You should have a quick delve into the Bantams Forum. Apart from themselves nobody else has made any decent signings - at all - and how they haven’t got any rivals this season. Well, maybe a bit of ‘Mansfield look OK’.

Everyone else is canon fodder for the City machine!
https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/our-rivals-not-doing-well-so-far-in-transfer-market.2675/
The thing that surprises me most in that thread is that the initial poster lists us as one of the teams seen as their main rivals.

What fucken planet these Bratfut fans on like!?

I can guarantee that you will not see a more pointless or waste of a signing than Ryan Lloyd signing for us. He was with us for years, barely played, looked non existent when he did play. However, he randomly kept getting contact after contract. Since then he hasn’t pulled up any trees in non league with Macclesfield and Chester and barely played for Macclesfield last year. But Vale being Vale and due to Lloyd being a local lad who Askey knows, we’ll happily give him a job.

Quite frankly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poorer scouting network than Vale’s recently.
Actually he was good here until he hit a run of injuries last season. I'm sure Askey will be able to get him back to his best.

Cullen looks a good signing injuries permitting ( that's why he's at Vale ) .

Lloyd is simply staggering, we have had a positive summer off the pitch and have to trust a manager who is making his signings and not those of an egotistical Chairman who watches Youtube.

However that said it has to be one of the worst signings in recent history and we have a three figure list of dross in the last few years. Lloyd goes right to the top of that list.
Unbelievable Jeff

As mentioned above Danny Rose to Tranmere is gathering speed. A well known insider on our forum has just posted he was at the club today and are hoping to get the deal done urgently before he’s dragged off to Portugal as part of Mansfield pre season tour.

Any stags fans able to add to this?

Mellon wants two forwards with Rose, Lang and Stefan Payne the three top of his wishlist.
Well he was pictured at our first day training in the gym

I don’t think he was at Tranmere because he was pictured training with the rest of the squad yesterday.

Unbelievably harsh. Give him a chance- you haven't seen him play for years and he was a key asset in us winning the league. Askey loves these kind of work horse players.

I have to admit that even though we have lost Carey, Lameires and Ladapo, I am quietly confident of having a decent season under Ryan Lowe. Linked with Jordan Rossitter, Frankie Fielding and Danny Mayor, will be happy to take all three for sure.

I think Rossitter, Fielding and Mayor are OK signings at this level but nothing special. Encouraging news for us City fans. :shifty:

I'll be honest I'm not sure I expect any of these to sign for us. Certainly all will have interest from L1.

I think he will be given a chance by most Vale fans, but some of us are confused why Hannant was allowed to leave, who is possibly the better player of the two.

Really? I dont see it tbh. Maybe some of the relegation fodder but none of the top teams in L1 would go for them.

Rossitter and Mayor will be fantastic signings at this level if Plymouth get them, is Fielding that keeper who looks about 100? Never thought he was any good tbh, I'm sure you can get younger and cheaper keepers who're just as good if not better.

It seems a pointless one in that would he oust Worrall or Monty for example for a starting berth realistically? or in the centre would he push out Manny or Conlon currently?

I hope he does well and he is a product of our academy so would be sweet if he can but we need goals in the team from midfield and pace neither which he offers. Hence im desperate for us for someone like Amoo for example to give us something different.

I would've liked to have kept Lloyd but Campbell didnt rate him. Askey clearly does as he was inportant in our promotion season and he wanted him at Shrewsbury in L1. Think he likes having someone in midfield/out wide who wins headers from long balls, when only playing 1 up top.

Main issue is his injury record.

Quote me at the end of the season, when Bradford are playing Exeter away in the play offs.
I don't see that as a bad season. You said playoffs if we are lucky. Now I'm going to have to quote you when we are in the playoffs. Id be more than happy to parade you around the streets as some deity or mystic meg if we are in the playoffs. However I do understand your hatred of the playoffs after being in the automatics most of the year then bottling it when it mattered and failing in the playoffs. Must still be smarting

Strange point of view that. Both Mayor and Rossitter were key players in a side who were promoted last season and Fielding has been the reserve GK for a decent Championship side for years. Probably wont get any of them though!

According to both Pressley and Holdsworth, talks over a move for Liam McCarron are at a fairly advanced stage, so almost certain that he won't be playing for us next season.

If we don't get a decent fee for him then it makes you wonder what the point even is of having a youth system, if any player with potential gets hoovered up by Championship/Premiership clubs before they even have their breakthrough season.

The thing they always forget when tribunals convene to determine what the fee for a young player should be, is that the cost of developing a young player isn't just the resources spent on that player, but also all the resources spent on the players who don't make it to the professional game. Like saying to someone who wins £10 on the lottery that it's a good return on their £1 investment, forgetting the hundreds or thousands of pounds they might have spent on losing tickets before getting that tenner.

If the average L2 club's youth system produces say two players per season who make it in the professional game, then the compensation paid when a Premier League club poaches one of those players should cover at least half of the entire annual cost of running the youth system. If it doesn't and we don't get the benefit of having the players in our own squads either then youth development at this level is just bad business, a loss-making enterprise that subsidises big clubs.

Our most recent filed accounts show our annual spend on our academy to be £119,000 (though it isn't clear from the wording if that's the actual total), of which we earned £10,900. The highest income among the division's 24 clubs (according to us) was £50,000 (Exeter? I believe the initial fee for Ampadu was around that). I think someone was mentioning in the £25k region for McCarron which is nowhere near a fair fee for half our academy's annual production.

The youth development, loan and transfer systems in this country need torn up and built again from the ground up.

That's the deal football league clubs signed. However they were kind of forced to do it by the Premier League with the threat of removing TV revenues and other funding. I think its pretty pointless having a youth academy. anyone of any promise will get hoovered up. the only way you can profit is if they are a late developer and they sign a professional contract. premiership clubs play a numbers game. take on loads and if one makes it then it pays off. Doesn't matter if they have ruined x amount of careers

Well yeah that's the key bit. Our clubs were forced, as always, to dance to the PL's tune. I agree too that it ruins at least as many players' careers as get propelled onto the world stage. The amount of players with real promise at this level who then make no further senior appearances until they're about 24 doesn't bear thinking about.

Dean Henderson, a product of our youth academy is getting a lot of stick from Man U fans for daring to ask for a higher salary; however from noises he's made before (he wasn't sure he wanted to sign a new contract with them last season either) I think he feels they're holding his progression back. He's excelled at every level he's played at but ManU control where he goes and how long for and so his progression isn't in his own hands. I think he's clear he either wants promoted to ManU's first team where he can challenge De Gea for the number one shirt or he wants to go back to Sheffield United where he won promotion to the premier league, or at least to another premier league club and be in control of his own destiny, not at risk of getting dumped in the reserves and going a season without playing.

ManU are reluctant to loan him out to a Premier League rival or to let him leave. ManU fans think he's an ungrateful little shit but I'm not sure what exactly he has to be grateful for. He's achieved what he did in spite of them, not because of them. It's been hard work and a desire to play at whatever level he can get regular football at that has gotten him where he is, not a sports science team at ManU. If he'd been a Grimsby player he'd have got his move and earned some money for Grimsby in the process, same goes for Shrewsbury, and he'd be looking forward to his first season as a regular starter in a Premier League team, not wondering whether he was going to get any first team football at all.

Liam McAlinden is apparently on trial at Walsall.

I'll be amazed if he gets another Football League club.
