Our away support has always been fickle but potentially impressive.

It's a solid away hardcore of 1,000, which is poor considering we have a hardcore home support of 17 or 18,000.

But when we any sniff of success it quickly goes up to a 3,000 demand. Noticed towards the end of this season that our last 4 away games all have fair sized Away ends.

Oldham
Northampton
Port Vale and
MK Dons

If we're up there challenging for top 2 at the end of the season we'll have a 5,000 demand for those matches with the last match at Milton Keynes having easily over a 10,000 demand.

That game could be interesting because if the MK stadium holds 30,000 then would they give us half the stadium?

I seriously believe we could potentially sell close to 15,000 for that game, which I imagine would be some sort of record for an Away following.

15k is way ott we only took 6k there the other year in the 3rd last game when a win would of all but took us up. Granted it was sold out and could of been more, maybe 8 or 9k tops

They wouldn't give you 15k either.

You're wrong mate.
We took 10K to Darlington in last match in 1982
And we took 8K to Leicester in the last match in 1989

Our support is better now compared to then.

My point is If it's a promotion clinching match there would be easily over 10K demand.

The other year when we sold out 6K it wasn't a promotion clinching match and that makes all the difference.

It's all if buts and maybes and I don't want to come across as arrogant. A normal end of season promotion match we'd take 7K but if we only needed 1 point or 3 points to seel promotion then demand would be unprecedented and as MK Dons have a big stadium that's no where near full then it opens up all kinds of possibilities to meet demand.

Erm....you might be a bit disappointed if you think Northampton's away end is roomy...

The away allocation at City is 2800, 1800 in the Bradford End and 1000 in Midland Road. They've obviously cut back on the 'no mans land' segregation against Sheff Utd this year, probably because there's been hardly any trouble last few games. The restricted view tickets will be for the poor feckers who are stuck behind pillars in the Bradford End, good luck to them.

Really not something to be bothered about I can't believe he's talking about the last 4 away games when we're 11 games in and were 8th in the league ffs. Nothing like getting slightly excited too early I thought he would of learnt by now supporting sheff utd.

I'm on the side 1st time on there. They obviously won't stand behind them plenty of room at the front of that lower tier everyone will just stand there. Stewards are pretty decent bunch at Bradford never really care.

The view from the bottom tier is even wankier if I'm honest. It just needs knocking down and replacing but it's not our ground and we don't have that sort of cash so it won't happen. You will never want to go back in there once you've sat in the Midland Road.

I always look ahead at the last few away games of each season, especially the last away match.

Last season it was away to Coventry and I remember thinking how it could be great to clinch promotion in a big stadium with a big 5K following.

However after losing the 1st match 4-0 to Gillingham and never threatening promotion at any point this became academic so I never mentioned it. Last season was pretty depressing.

But this season is looking much better.
Surely we got to get promoted at some point.
Don't think I can take this league for much longer ha ha .

I won't be thinking were getting promotion until it's actually done. We always find a way to fuck it up. Anyway long long way to go yet. If we lose on Saturday doom and gloom will kick in again

Bradford now sold out. 5 sell outs out of 7 away games. Some would say our fans think we might do ok this year.

Sheff Utd's numbers have held up really well.

I don't mind it I like standing at the front and prefer behind the goal to the side.

My 1st ever away game was at Valley Parade in the 81-82 season.
Both teams were doing well in division 4 (our only season in the basement). It was televised on ITV and we won 2-0.

Remember standing behind the large uncovered area behind the goal. There were 2 fences down the middle splitting it in half with a no mans land in between.

Homes fans in 1 half and away fans the other.

I remember being entertained at half time when fans were throwing this big lump of wood (like a log) over the fence at each other.

I also saw us beat Bradford City when we played you at Elland Road in the mid 80's.

Numbers have but support for the team is pretty shit although I think that's the case for 90% of the teams in English football these days.

Totally agree.
The Blades traditional DNA is (like Millwall) no one likes us, we don't care and traditionally we thrive on being the underdog. In the right circumstances we have a really passionate mental set of supporters. Gerard Houlier said that Liverpools 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane in the League Cup semi final is one of the most intimidated atmospheres he's ever faced.

But in league 1 we're never the underdog at Bramall Lane, we don't have any rivalries, hardly get any away fans so it's not the same. Even when we win our fans find it difficult to get too excited because many will say "ahh but it's only xxxxxx". Some of our fans almost feel embarrassed playing in league 1 so we aren't going to get an atmosphere going. We've been embarrassingly quiet many times. Also over the years there's been a latent anger towards the players and manager. It's as though many of our fans are waiting for them to fail. It's getting better now though thanks to Wilder.

You're still shit.

But that's what sorts out the men from the boys.

When Wednesday are shit their supporters go into hiding.
Remember your 1st season down in league 1 the other year many gates were 16,000.

If Wednesday had 6 successive years in league 1 you can't deny that your gates would level out around the 15,000 mark. Your home support is greater for one offs but has always been dissapointing over a full season. You'd stll have good away support though, give you credit there.

Anyway these things go in cycles. Wednesdayites are having some time in the sun (best football in 15 years) but you can be sure it won't last. We're coming for ya (he says with irrational hope) ha ha.

Not sure if your fishing or deluded, looking at your previous posts probably a little bit over excited leading to delusion thinking. I don't think we averaged below 20k during our latest 4 years in league 1, and averaged about 24k in 03/04 despite at one point looking likely to get dragged into a relegation dogfight, not had averages anywhere near as low as 15k since the 70's when all clubs attendances dipped (mainly due to fear of hooliganism) certainly not had 15k average as recently as you lot, but don't let the truth get in your way, you keep telling yourself its true if it makes you feel better. Blademan you're normally reasonable, please can you correct him and try to calm him down, we don't want him looking stupid come May. Though I agree IF you can gain promotion the normal allocation for the away end at MK will certainly not be big enough.

It's not that bad if you stand at the back of the upper tier.

He's just a little excited. You got 17k 1 year in league one the rest easily over 20k

We averaged just shy of 18K during our darkest season 10/11, the trips to high court, the Irvine style, that was our lowest ebb. That was on the back of some very bad seasons since leaving the top flight.

Your gates have held up very well I'll admit that but let's not forget that pre Warnock you had sub 13K averages

Christ. This is your sixth consecutive season in League 1, you are a L1 team now.

But with CW coming back (if he's still with you by then) and you being a big club and all that, that is sure to put a few on the home support...

That's like half the stand. We still charge max price for the other half with a shit view. Fair enough if away fans don't mind it, I had no idea. I've sat in there a few times and I think it's abysmal.

Averages? or 1 sub 13k average which was 12,900 since the 80s. Always mainly stood around 17k and above slightly less than yours over time

Really wish you'd (at least) doubled the size of the away end rather than knock a side down and build more or less exactly the same thing back over it. Would've been far more cost effective to be able to offer away teams 2000 rather than a half-filled side which it always was anyway?

That is part of the redevelopment plan, we do realise that we are losing funds by not being able to offer a larger away section...the completion of the East Stand is currently stalled because of ongoing legalities, once sorted we hope to be able to offer more...
