A lot of games you can buy beforehand and on the day, just surprised to see only 250 bought before hand.

I'll assume there's no saving to be had buy buying early? More understandable if not, I suppose.

What you reckon you'll take?

No discount as far as I know so seems little point in buying beforehand.

Should take between 1,000 and 1,500. Hopefully we take that so we can pay some sort of respect to Nev!

Impossible. That didn't even happen during the worst moments of last season when we had 500 fewer ST holders. We'll push up the average this year. It'll still be a million miles from what it should be, but I reckon we have bottomed out.

Good to see a big following from Wigan. Remember when they came to Highfield Road, numbers OK but made plenty of noise. Could do without it kicking off this time though - pretty ugly last time.

There were a number of games where the home crowds was less than 7000.

On what evidence makes you think the average will be higher? The way it is going, our season is going to be ANOTHER boring one finishing in mid-table, how will that attract any more fans? Up until the other day we had only sold 7500 for a game against a 'bigger' side, on the first game of the season!

There was only one home attendance last season below 7k (115 below) - it was our lowest crowd in 50+ years. You seriously think we'll get gates below that this season even though more people have committed with season tickets? We'll probably get some poor gates, but 6k? Not a chance.

Who cares what we had sold 'the other day'? Means nothing. The predicted crowd tomorrow is 12k. That's decent enough given recent history. And 'bigger teams', in division 3? Really. Nobody is going up today simply because it is Wigan.

I would imagine there will be something done before kick off. If up to a 1,000 are going to rock up without tickets then be prepared to queue as far as I Know you still have to purchase a ticket, you can't pay at the gate.

Yes but there were other times where the home crowd was less than 7000 when you take out the away fans. These include Swindon and Scunthorpe

In terms of today, people are more likely to go the first game of the season against a side bring 2000 supporters, who had been in the Prem a few years ago, than say Fleetwood (no offence).

It's a pointless argument, because ultimately we both know crowds will be influenced by how well we do. The decent(ish) turn out today is down to the fact it is the first game of the season. Wigan have been a non-league club in my lifetime - nobody is going up today because we are playing them. Yes, the fact they are bringing a big following might tempt and few. Always livens the place up.

Anyway, I fear we are polluting the away followings thread with a pointless argument about home crowds. So before somebody points out that I am boring them senseless I'll call time on this now :bg:

I'm not just saying this because I dislike Wigan but they were the worst away fans I've ever seen in my life. I was expecting them to be crap - because the majority would just be bandwagoners - but that was another fucking level. Just sat down for 90 minutes.

The noise from Wigan was immense first five minutes, then they realised they had no chance today and sat down the rest of the game without making a noise.

Some very good numbers from all involved there.

Here's our fans before the mass eye gouging began

Thought Millwall was good, have they announced their "flag day" yet?

Oldham were very good, quite loud and decent numbers. I doubt their team would of gotten back into it without them to be honest.

Oldham are loud away based on their trips to us in recent years. Hardly a peep at home mind.

Yes excellent vocal support from Oldham, they put some much bigger followings to shame. Not costantly noisy, but when they had an attack or chance they made themselves heard. Impressive.

This was also very classy - Cheers lads.

Not a single bad following there.

Millwall taking 1600 to Shrewsbury... where did that come from? Regularly bought 3/400 to us last time we were both at this level. Staffs finest won't be looking forward to 7th September if they're planning on bringing a similar number to Vale Park.

New ground, opening day, optimism among the fanbase, not a cesspool town etc. Is our game on a Saturday? If it is and we're winning games, we'll bring a fair few up.

What sort of home crowd are you expecting tomorrow?

Wouldn't say the league cup needs to be scrapped but it's a crap competition that lower league teams don't even take seriously and field their best teams. I'd rather finish top 6 in League 1 than win the league cup. Couldn't even name last years winners or previous winners.
