Probably because people didn't want to stand in the rain for 2 hours like 500 or so of us did.

Decent following, could be better, but there isn't the buzz about the place that I thought there would be with us being in the top 6. Probably because we aren't playing well.
Man up, it's been done many times before.

I'd happily take a fucking drenching to see my team win, it's not all that cold if you jump around and make some noise.

It's not me that needs to man up, I stood there in the rain all afternoon, but it is others who probably didn't fancy it.

I didn't aim it towards you, I aimed it towards those using it as an excuse.

Fair play to you.

It is such a shite away end at Swindon, made worse by the horrific weather.

Thought the Swindon faithful made a lot of noise today. Very impressive.

Yeah - it is shit.

I always find myself in the Stratton Bank at Swindon, as The Arkells Stand is usually where the prawn sandwich brigade are located. It's shit vocally, it's not a great view, and it's shit when it rains.

But - I always find myself going to Swindon whenever we play them. Hard to stay away from an away game of such close proximity.

I hate any ground where they split the away fans up into two stands. Atmosphere was awful from us lot today.

If they put a roof on the bank, I reckon it would be a cracking away end.

The average away support at Bradford is 597 which is inflated with a good following from Sheff United (1497) so to take 699 above the average and over double of any other team bar Sheff United isn't that bad really is it. Its around 16% of our home support which again isn't bad is it.

Also FRITHY, you like the conspiracy against the mighty Bradford that all Lancashire clubs downgrade Bradfords away crowds and whist I am not arguing with todays figure, that end behind the goal supposedly holds 1800, it was full at the top and there were not 800 seats at the bottom to fill and there were people in these. Then there were a number on the side who paid on the day.
Which is wrong? the size given for the stand or the side of the away following?

Stand the the right hand side for pay on the day only:

View attachment 2022

Away end behind the goal that holds 1800 (allegedly)

View attachment 2023

Since you so gracefully mention my name, I felt the need to reply.

The stand behind the goal USED to hold 1,800, but since the removel of seats near to the dugout, it now holds just over 1,500.

Now here's the interesting bit; you mention that the top tier was full. I care to differ. In other words, it wasn't. Far from.

The bottom tier was so ridiculously sparse, it may aswell have been closed. Maybe 100 at best in there?

The few dotted about in the 1,300 overspill was also hideous to see. So to clarify, do I think your away following was shit. Yes, Sir, one does. Do I think the latter boils purely down to ticketing prices, no, one doesn't.

In a nutshell, SHIT following for a game that's merely 25 mile away.

Firthy, Wigan to Bradford is not 25 miles away. I think it's double that at least.

Think we took 2800 to Rochdale today which is pretty decent given how shite we've been recently won about 2 games in 24. Fuckin abject

How have you came to that conclusion? You potentially have your best and most exciting season in a number of years in store, and you only bring 1,600 to a ground that is roughly two hours away?

Not great at all IMO.

FRITHY - Wigan to Bradford 25 miles - incorrect, its a 1hr 10 trip of 60 miles. You also say the top tier wasn't full, the photo must be people coming in and then leaving and sitting somewhere else as it clearly is.
The bottom - 100 you say. Look at the photo. This end holds 1500 yo say and therefore there must be 600 empty seats in the bottom tier. Problem you have here is there aren't even 600 seats in the bottom tier!!!

Also, you say "the few dotted in the 1300 overspill was hideous to see" - The photo shows the few that number around 300-400. You have shown yourself to be what you are.

Now, whilst progressing, your following to Oldham a few weeks ago where you took 1665 (less than Wigan took and yours is a closer trip) you claimed was good and that Oldham manipulated your away following. You therefore seem to have double standards.

An away support of 1300 (allegedly) for a game 1hr 10 away is not that bad is it, especially when its double any other away following at your ground, other than Sheff United.

2800 Oldham is very impressive when you look at their home crowds. The percentage is the figure that is always interesting to ready. For example,
Bradford home attendance average 18228 have an away average of 1532. This is a percentage of around 8.5%.
Port Vale who average 5146 and average 800 away from home come in with a percentage of around 16%
Wigan who average 8362 at home and have an away average of 1191 away from home (including yesterdays 1296) come in with a percentage of around 15.5%.

I can go on with a pattern but the away followings based on percentage of home fans wouldn't see Bradford in the same light as others may do.

Just saying....

There wasn't any more than 1,300 there. I don't really need to go into greater detail.

My apologies, it's 50 mile. A similar distance of Bradford to Doncaster - where we took double what you brought yesterday.

Shite following.

Ah, the home to away percentage ratio - that old chestnut. It means diddly squat, other than the fact that the relevant club has shite home support.

This is the one that people like to beat us with. I don't always agree with Firthy's views but when he says it doesn't really mean much I think he's right. I said in a different post that we're equally capable of both excellent and poor away followings, for various reasons. We're certainly not in the same league as Sheff Utd (for example), who generally take decent numbers wherever they go, regardless of how they're doing.

There is no doubt our home support is swelled by the cheap season tickets, but as we've done it for quite a while it's hard to know what our 'core' would be now. Take the deals away and the home figures would obviously drop and then our away 'percentage' would then increase.

So actually this criticism is more about our 'inflated' home attendances, which everyone loves to have a go at for some reason when for years we've been trying to make football more affordable for our fans and fill our ground as best we can - acknowledging that this season's approach has led to an increase in away ticket prices.

I don't know if there's really anything in these accusations Firthy makes about some clubs 'massaging' away support numbers, though to be fair he's not been the only one to query Oldham's figures this season (and Rochdale's in the past). To my knowledge, we've never had that accusation levelled at us.

Either way, from the pictures you provided I think c1300 is about right. You're correct in that you brought a good deal more than everyone else so far apart from Sheff Utd. However, that carries a bit less weight when you consider that the other teams to visit VP so far have been Gillingham and Bury (both midweek), Peterborough, Shrews and Vale. I would hope you'd bring considerably more than all those!

Your away support to us has been very impressive the last couple of years also to barnsley and doncaster too. Your following to closer trips like oldham and rochdale are pretty shit though in my eyes. I dont blame you though lancashires a shithole :2thumb:

We averaged 11k at home, which was maximum capacity every single game, and in away support, the difference is, you live in the Midlands, so northern and southern games are much more within your reach. We didn't have many games within 2 hours of Bristol last season, but whenever we did, we sold far more than 1,600. That is a shit following yesterday - it was a year ago last week that we played Coventry away, we were flying at the top of L1, we took 4k to you. You haven't even managed half of that to a journey that is the same distance.

The fact is your home support wouldn't be that impressive if you didn't offer 10 bob and a concur for season tickets, you would be gettin around 7 to 8000 on average like other teams, i do agree that the Wigan following a bit low giving that their now playing well and they haven't been to Bradford in long time.

Still missing Burton at Fleetwood from last Saturday.

The Oldham figure at Rochdale is from the number of tickets sold prior to the game, which was all ticket. So unless anyone has an official figure . . .

Would we fuck. The lowest we've averaged in 19 years is 8,300 - and that season we were relegated. You've got to understand what we've achieved on and off the pitch since then - and if ticket were similarly priced when compared to most clubs, we'd average more than that anyway.

Ther only managed 775 first year down from the Championship when they finished 12th I think. It was a 77% increase from the previous season to last season

I fail to see your logic , by that logic , your away support this season is fucking tragic ..
Our home support is barely above what yours was , and we are taking more on average ..if we pissed the league it would be far higher than 1300 FACT..
And please stop with the size of the club shite , we are where we are and nothing more than a medium sized club ..never been anything more
