Is there any point at all in this competition? It is a complete waste of everybody's time.
I know what you mean but I don't think Walsall were saying that at Wembley last year.

Micky Mellon and Junior Brown almost came back to haunt us but a great second goal from Bobby Grant put us through to the next round.

Vale ought to try and do better. amazing when teams go out its a crap tournament. i for one want to go to wembley as does my 17 yr old who missed out on millenium as too young and wembley as not born. Vale will never do a Bradfud and get to league cup final . missed opportunity.

We should be targeting the League Cup, if you can manage it any mugs can. If not I'll take the playoff final. Just not the JPT, it's a fucking farce of a competition and I hate it almost as much as I hate Swindon.

You are way back behind us and Oxford when it comes to hating Swindon.

Are you sure ?

Am I sure how far it is to York or how many we would take? I did say for the jpt in my defence and the weather last night put more off thunder and lightning very very frightening but not as bad as we are playing

Nor would we have if we had made it last season, or if we make it this year. You have to take the chance when it comes, whether it be the JPT, PO or LC (see what I did there Bradford?)

To be fair there's no reason why we shouldn't try and go all the way in this. Only 3 League One sides left in out of the 8 southerners, with Southend and Millwall joining us - not quite the same level of opposition as Bristol City were last season with all due respect. There's some better sides in the Northern section granted, but I'd be almost disappointed if we didn't give this competition a go.

bang on Joe-I'm sure that any Walsall fan will tell you that no matter what the result; it's a special day.

I'm disappointed we are out, but on the flip side frustrated we've had an injury. I had a great day out in 2001 when we won it and on the face of it we were taking it seriously hence the relatively strong XI we played. Page is rightly furious as we put in little effort on the field and sounds like we heard they were making changes and just turned up expecting to win.

Winning the JPT honestly wasn't that special a day in supporting Crewe for me, but we had been to Wembley less than a year before winning the play offs. The Northern Final was much more fun, atmosphere and there wasn't thousands of empty seats.

I enjoyed the JPT Wembley trip. No pressure, just a good day out. The play-off final was horrendous as I was crapping it before hand and dying from sun stroke by half time.

It seemed to be a useful work out for us.

Alessandra, Eastham, Mendez-Laing and Tanser all came in and did pretty well

And as the draw takes place BEFORE our ritual defeat at Bramall Lane, I believe we go into the hat as the highest placed Northern team... :)

No chance of a Dale v Gills final then? (Highest North v Highest South)

Dale v Gills is far too interesting for a JPT final.

They're normally much more banal.

Wigan v Oxford seems a suitably dull sort of pairing... :)

Ah yes, I forgot. it is an unwritten rule that all JPT finals are as dull as ditchwater (prepares to take cover)

We've been to Wembley 3 times in the last 6/7 years and I'd still want us to do well in this competition. Don't often get a chance to see us actually win silverware so once you start to get into the latter stages you have to take it seriously.

Although we have only ever played each other 6 times , having won all the previous 6 i feel that 100% record will be coming to a swift end on saturday.
