Presuming these figures are accurate

I’d definitely say our playing budget is circa £3.5m, but the others figures are somewhat questionable.

Not a chance that’s accurate, where is it even from?

I read somewhere that our budget was in the £20k's per week last season, around half of Wrexhams. No idea if the numbers are even close to being true.
With the FL payments we now get I can imagine our first team budget will increase but I'd be amazed if it gets into the £40k a week bracket even with a bigger squad.
Youth team funding definitely on the up as we now get the Elite status funding again.
Our owners are very disciplined on wage structure, they will absolutely lose top players rather than break what they see as the right price. Having said that, we keep making losses every year so the Reedtz brothers can't be faulted for not putting their hands on their pockets.

There’s no way that Notts County’s budget was only £20k a week/£1m for the season! Yes, Wrexham spent a load,, but so did Notts, and I’m sure that both clubs will spend again next season too.

Given that Chesterfield are apparently paying Danny Rowe £2.5k a week, I'd be surprised if we aren't over £20k. Comparing to Wrexham though, a squad of mostly ex-league players is going to cost a fair bit more than a squad of mostly career non-league players you'd have thought. The big difference between the two clubs' spending is the transfer fees though.

I’m only shocked that there’s someone that had a lower budget than us.

The actual figure I heard was £22,500 per week. I can believe it is in that region as it adds up to £1.15 million and we'd likely budget for gate receipts of around £1.8 million. There's a lot of season ticket holders (4,000) and concessions in the crowd numbers averaging us at around £15 per head I would guess.
Add on all the costs of running a club, training ground, unfunded youth set up and another £1 million gone is realistic and probably low.
We ran a 21 man first team squad, spent £60,000 on Langstaff, sold Cal Roberts for more and had Kyle Wootton and Eli Sam ( who you ask, a top earner apparantly) off the wage bill. Our five signings of the summer came from NLN and South, we were competitive but not in the same league as Wrexham.
Budgeting for a £500,000 loss is about what the owners seemed prepared to lose each year in the NL and those numbers sort of get you there.

It seems like it’s impossible to know what Notts County’s wage bill is as they take advantage of small company rules and don’t publish detailed accounts. In the last published accounts (21-22) they spent £227k on transfer fees, lost £1.7 million, borrowed an additional £2m from their owners, and are now £14m in debt.

Not a problem as long as the owners keep on funding the losses I guess. Same as Wrexham. But I do worry for us and for you that over the long-term it’s unsustainable.

So to sum up, Notts spent £1m less on transfers (vs Wrexham's £1.2m) and Wrexham lost nearly twice as much (£2.9m). No, the club is not sustainable in the long run in the National League spending that amount of money, but it is ridiculous to say that the two clubs spend on a similar level.

We've both been down the road to oblivion before and the numbers are terrible. Still, there's not a thing I can do about it but enjoy the ride.
Went to our first pre season friendly after relegation from the league against Nuneaton five summer's ago and we had no owners and the whole squad turned up in their own cars as we couldn't pay for a bus and couldn't fill the bench, really thought we were going through as Bury did.

Seems pretty accurate to me that. The ones that I'd question are Donny and Stevenage being that high. Gillingham's is perhaps a little on the low side too but otherwise that's spot on, I'd say.

That seems a bit high for Colchester? Where are they spending wasting that sort of money?

In Feb/March last year, Simpson went back to Carlisle, Evans went to Stevenage and Wellens took over at our place - All three clubs were in a relegation battle and playing poorly.

12 months on and the three of them are promoted.

Fuck sake, wish we'd given Phil Brown a full time deal.

That reeks of a desperate attempt to shift season tickets. Our Chairman said the same thing on Radio when fans were thinking of staying away last season to get more fans buying STs and truth is we were still spending a fair bit less than we were in L1.

If they really had the finances to back that up they'd have offered some contracts to players after relegation.

The current owners took out 2 million out of us, Sarbjot's takeover doesnt seem it will be ratified in time or even materialise which is good cause of it being suspicious with his so called millions

Title odds taken off The Fishy:

Wrexham 7/2
Stockport 5/1
Notts County 6/1
Gillingham 10/1
Bradford 12/1
MK Dons 14/1
Salford 14/1
Mansfield 16/1
Doncaster 22/1
Accrington 25/1
Swindon 25/1
Walsall 25/1
Barrow 33/1
Forest Green 33/1
Grimsby 33/1
Morecambe 33/1
Newport 33/1
Tranmere 33/1
AFC Wimbledon 40/1
Crewe 50/1
Sutton 50/1
Colchester 66/1
Crawley 80/1
Harrogate 100/1

All the moneybags clubs up there as you'd expect. Some half decent potential punts elsewhere though. Looking at Donny's early season business I quite fancy them each way at 22/1.

I can’t see Swindon having 2 shit seasons in a row either so 25/1 for them looks way too big too.

Harrogate at a low price as hardly anyone bets on them . Offer low to get some business.

I'm disgusted at ours. Don't they know we have wonderful owners who just can't do enough for the club?

I also fancy Swindon to do well. Think Barrow is a good shout for the playoffs.

I'm more interested in the relegation odds, but I haven't seen any bookies offering any yet. There are teams in the middle of the predicted odds that could finish pretty much anywhere, including the bottom 2.
If anyone is taking a punt on the promotion / playoffs etc, shop around. The odds vary quite a bit at the moment for the non-top sides.
E.g. Swindon 33-1 and barrow 50-1 with some.
Some early money going on AFC Wimbledon to win. Even at 40-1, I find that a bit delusional, but who knows? I guess they are one of those sides that could finish anywhere.

Tranmere were another of the disappointing sides. Don’t know much about the going ons there but they’re naturally a club that should be competitive. Tbh, until clubs sort out their recruitment it’s all a bit pissing in the wind.

L2 is a league where the managers can make a big difference - both good and bad. Wrexham and Notts County can’t just rely on turning up and gathering 3 points like last season. I’ve seen Luke Williams up close and I’m not convinced he has a Plan B - he’s out of the Garner/Lindsey mould. Take Wrexham out of the equation and Parkinson only has an average win % - less than 40%.

All in all, it could be a right old slog.
