Good for geography
I seem to recall in our last season in NL we had away trips to Barrow, Gateshead, Torquay and Dover - basically the four corners of England. Chuck in an away FA Cup replay at Truro, and I don't think the journeys could have got any further.

I've done Dover, North Shields (FA Cup) it's north of Newcastle and Gretna (FA Cup i think) when they were in the English leagues - so that's 3 corners covered. Salisbury (FA Trophy) is as close to the South West as i've got though

Fixtures are out 2 weeks today, who do we think we will get first up? who do we want first up, and who are we looking forward to visiting most.
For me its
Mansfield (A), always get them early doors.
Walsall (H) a warm welcome for flynny.
Stockport (A) its been a while.

1) who do we want? Anyone but Stevenage for the 3rd year running
2) who will we get? Stevenage
3) who do I want to visit most? maybe Stockport (or Morecambe in the Cup)

1) Want - Grimsby. 'Cos, seaside and summer. Or Gillingham (yes, really). Could make a nice weekend away in Kent.
2) Pot luck aint it? Though we kept getting Posh home or away first for a run of I think 4/5 years. Not possible now obvs...
3) Bradford always my fav away. But has to be Stockport as the one I'm looking for. Takes on more significance for us after Oldham followed Bury into the abyss. Also it's literally a quick walk from my house and a fixture I've missed. Though I've been as a neutral a few times it's now 15 years since we shared a league.

First game - Someone of the fancied sides before they're in a rhythm. Mansfield maybe, or Bradford.
Looking forwards to Harrogate, Barrow, Salford and Wimbledon as they're the grounds I've not been to. Otherwise Northampton as it'll be our local game once we've moved house.

Probably the most ridiculous for us was Lowestoft in the Conference North! It's not much below Birmingham on a map, but a bloody long journey for most of the teams in that division.

The most ridiculous would have been Bishop’s Stortford in the Conference North. The car park at Bishop’s Stortford doubles as a car park for London Stanstead airport. The town is very much London overspill and straddles the Essex/Hertfordshire border, yet for 2 seasons Bishop’s Stortford FC were in the Conference North.

Oxford City also spent a couple of seasons in the NLN

Stockport County.
People getting far too giddy on us. It's our own fans putting this money on too. I bet they couldn't name 5 players at this level. I know I can't.

I'd take a chilled mid table play-off flirt to be honest.

I genuinely thought we be second fav and the usual Salford topping the bookies list.

thank fuck we are both in EFL 2 now... it's much better when we can argue about whether anyone south of Crewe (for example) are Southerners or not due to a nice healthy number of Northern clubs.
Always said the North starts at Crewe. I'd class us as North West (were on a North West weather map and get North West regional news, whereas our neighbours down the road in Staffordshire are classed as Midlands.

As usual we are favourites among some bookies for the league and to put into context how garbage of a bet that is, we haven’t finished above 7th at this level since 1982.

I reckon if any one of us put a tenner on our respective team to win the league the odds would instantly change. The market for league two is tiny and affected by giddy fans of their own clubs a lot. Though I'm not sure why anyone would place a bet now before any meaningful transfer activity has happened or a ball has been kicked.

You,ll be fine, Although can,t/Don,t take anything for granted.
Biggest thing i,ve noticed is Mistakes get punished, Could get away with it in
The NatLge. And far less time on the ball.

Plus the good thing about the bananarama league is that all the part time teams tired about 60 minutes so if you were in a game you just waited till they got tired and picked them off

Yeah if your defender makes a mistake it usually falls to someone like Shamir Mullings who spoons the ball 15 yards wide.

Early days, but this is already interesting.

https://www.betfred.com/sports/event/22789494.2

I hope they have got Stevenage’s odds right!
I think 16s is about right for us. We don't have a full first team yet, but do have a good manager and some decent players left over from our League One stay. Additionally, in the last 5 seasons we've spent in this league over the past 27 years we haven't finished lower than 8th in any of them, despite being a mess in most of those years (including the season we were in a 30+ run of games without an away win and lost to Dover in the FA Cup).

We've actually won promotion in 3 of those 5 seasons, finishing 2nd, 5th (play-off winners), 8th, 8th and 1st. I wouldn't be surprised to see us in the top third of the league at all, particularly at a level we aren't dwarfed financially like we were last year - we also have the ability to actually sign players this season which is nice. I think if we hadn't had our embargo last season Harris would've brought a couple more in and we could easily have stayed up in the end.

Hartlepool early August is the tops. Nice refreshment at the Marina and on to the footy

Aye Hartlepool in early August is only the time you lot will be able to come up here and be comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt!

You moved up to the 'shire' as well? Wherabouts Joe?

Word of warning, the train infrastructure unless you want to go to London or Birmingham is pretty non-existent. Road routes are great however if you drive to away games.

there's not many P/T teams left now
A lot of people Knock the NatLge, Not me.
I think its great for the young lads dumped by the so called bigboys to
Get back up the ladder.
And when your team manages to get out of that league you know you,ve earned it.

We're moving to Thrapston in East Northants. Originally we were set to move to Market Harborough but we got priced out of there over the last 12 months or so. Plan is to end up there eventually though.
