There's a tripe shop in Stalybridge high street - that just about straddles Lancashire and Yorkshire.

It was too much tripe that addled Masi's brain.
your head is filled with radiation

Greater Manchester isn’t Lancashire though, any more than Merseyside is. I’d forgotten about Tameside tbh. Residents of Wirral where I was born and grew up would never consider themselves as Lancastrian just because it moved from Cheshire to Merseyside in the 70s.
But was the Wirral ever part of Lancashire? I thought it was Cheshire and then Merseyside. So only right that no one there would care about Lancs.
The whole historic counties thing does have some cultural importance. Places that spent the best part of a thousand years identifying one way were arbitrarily lumped into a newly created metro borough. I can't comment on Merseyside too much as I'm not from there and never lived there. But despite some folk in places like St Helens having dodgy wool-scouse accents, that's not Liverpool. It's not even that close to the Mersey.
From a Greater Manchester point of view, it's quite annoying for a lot of people from bigger outlying towns like Bury, Rochdale, Stockport, Bolton etc to be called 'Manchester'. We're all distinct towns. I cringe when I hear people from somewhere like Wigan or Bolton say theyre from Manchester. They're just not. GManc was created out of bits of Lancs/Cheshire/West Yorkshire (and I think even some tiny Derbyshire too). So there's different dialects, cultures and histories. Someone from Hazel Grove says and does stuff quite a lot differently than someone from Horwich.
I think the further away from the urbanised M60 ring you'll find less of a connection to Manchester and more to the historic county. Especially so in more rural places like Littleborough (Lancs), Saddleworth (Yorks), Mellor (Derbyshire). They couldn't feel less like a part of a big city region like Manchester. These places have more in common with the neighbouring connurbations 'over the border' in Lancs/Yorks/Derbs. I know in the former two you'll regularly see the flag of the historic county flying and links to the past.

Anyway, as you can probably tell. Lancs not Manc for me!

i get that here in sale (manchester) too, people are like it’s cheshire.

No, it’s greater manchester, and has been for pushing half a century. In old money stockport was cheshire too.
Only south of the river ;)

I take it all you northerner's that think the north is far better won't bother coming down to Wimbledon next season. You'll enjoy paying 5 or 6 quid for a pint !!

Yeah you get that quite frequently in south manchester which was cheshire, folk get quote sensitive about it, even folk 30 odd etc who were born when it was in greater manchester.

Some areas in greater manchester still have old postcodes though, like stockport (sk - which staylebridge is) or altrincham with an WA postcode.

Such excitement!

Sounds like London. Historically Sutton was in the county of Surrey. Sutton has a Surrey postcode and Sutton United are affiliated to the Surrey FA. However since 1965 Sutton has been part of Greater London. Some older people will insist Sutton is Surrey whilst the younger generations will swear blind Sutton is South London.

Fwiw I used to live in Sale, not too far from Brooklands Tram stop.

it isn’t, that’s like 2 minutes away from my house haha, just as close to the brook or the brooklands tap.

Trouble with replying in words on a forum is you cannot gauge the persons mood/reaction

The fuck off was light hearted and put down as such
Must be at least 10 Oxymorons on here so you are not alone

Still trying to make out what Masi has said. If he means Bolton and FGR are the only div 1 teams, Bolton will finish 2nd.

It was a joke and I took your reply with a laugh. As for not engaging with me, you have a very short term memory. Piece of advice, if you can’t stand being made fun of or of others having a go at you, you shouldn’t do it yourself

Dead right. One thing DVR, following the clubs we do, we certainly develop a sense of humour.

1) Want - Grimsby. 'Cos, seaside and summer. Or Gillingham (yes, really). Could make a nice weekend away in Kent.
2) Pot luck aint it? Though we kept getting Posh home or away first for a run of I think 4/5 years. Not possible now obvs...
3) Bradford always my fav away. But has to be Stockport as the one I'm looking for. Takes on more significance for us after Oldham followed Bury into the abyss. Also it's literally a quick walk from my house and a fixture I've missed. Though I've been as a neutral a few times it's now 15 years since we shared a league.
I've been to Blundell Park loads of times, but last year I went with my daughter's family to Haven in Cleethorpes. I always knew Grimsby was coastal, but until I went there it never really sank in that it was a seaside resort.

To be serious for a minute, my daughter was at Newcastle for 4 years so I went up the north east a lot.
Genuinely the friendliest, most welcoming people I have ever met.
Loved a night out too!!
I went for a 3 night break in Hartlepool just before Covid and yes the people were so friendly that I paid a second visit not long after.
