Much better 2nd half last night- best 45 minutes since MK away. Players clearly feeling the sense of loss since Cowleys left but are desperate to do well. Toffs was very animated after his goal. Change in formation was the game changer though- Akinde coming on (with 12 minutes to go!!!) with Walker up front. To quote Mike Bassett- we should play 4- 4- f*cking 2.

Is Des Walker's lad good enough for the Championship...?

Good enough to be signed by a former Premiership club that's had a poor start to the season for example...?

Well they keep loaning him out to teams below the championship, so that would suggest no.
Certainly has an eye for goal.

I'm clinging to the hope that Forest wouldn't want to loan him to a team in the same division.

It'd still leave us with only one striker if he left in January, though. We only have two senior strikers on the books.

But you may have a plan to bring someone in if that happens, you lot do get flustered easy.

No-one's getting flustered, just pointing out we only have two senior strikers although it isn't necessarily the numbers, it's that he looks a good striker for L1 level.

If he's going to make it at Forest then at 23 he ought to be challenging for the first team squad soon. If not then they may sell (...to Huddersfield?)

Whoever we appointed after the Cowleys was going to be underwhelming but I'm happy enough with this. Think a 4-year deal is a bit much though.

4 years at L1 level sounds horrendous business but that’s a solid choice.

A four year deal!? Who does this?

I think ours are always on a month by month contract, then again we always go for the cheap/easy option.

As we know length of contracts mean nowt, there will be clauses galore should it go well or not so well.

We gave the DC/NC a four year one in the NL then a new 4 year one in L2 so it's not unusual these last few years.

I wasn't too sure on Appleton initially, but having had a read around and listened to some podcasts, there are a fair few similarities between him and DC and he certainly ticks a lot of the boxes in terms of the criteria set out by the Board. Oxford fans seem to hold him in high regard, which is the only Club he's managed where it's been stable behind the scenes.

On paper, we've got the sort of players to suit his apparent way of playing because all the squad are comfortable on the ball.

Appleton has been sniffing around league 1 clubs for a while now looking for jobs. Was coming to our games in the wake of Jones getting the Stoke job. Think it’s a decent appointment, did decently at Oxford and had them playing some good stuff as well as having good contacts in the game to bring in good players from higher up.

Wonder if he will be in for Hylton when he comes back to fitness in January, had him at Oxford and his style is well suited to the type of football Appleton likes.
