I think it’s more the fact that fans thought the Cowleys would do as they said, would take Lincoln as far as they could and only leave for a ‘perfect fit’. No-one expected them to leave mid season. We were top of the league a couple of weeks ago so who knows what could have happened by the end. I question if Hudders are the perfect fit too, yes they are a much bigger club in a higher league, but not the perfect scenario IMO. In some ways it would have been better for them to leave pre season.

As for stuff aimed at them, it’s pretty minor really. If you think Lincoln fans shouldn’t dare have an opinion, you ought to have a look at Luton after Jones left for Stoke.
My thoughts, its the timing that has surprised me as I thought if they were going to leave they'd go in the summer to a championship side (WBA) not once the season had started and they couldn't go in and make changes to the squad.
Huddersfield is an odd choice too, imho Wednesday would have better been I reckon.
Good luck to them , owe us nothing been an amazing revival of a club that was close to the brink more than once during the 5 years before they arrived.
See what the next few days bring in terms of new manager, heart says Ainsworth head says Flynn but either would be an excellent appointment as both would keep the momentum going built up by the Cowleys.

Missed this post earlier...

Yes, if only there were lots of fans of other clubs telling you that the Cowleys weren't perfect and that beer didn't actually come out of their nipples? If only there were people who knew they were mere mortals and not devoted eternal knights of the Imp realm. If only plenty of warning had come that they would leave mid-season for a middling second tier club. Maybe then this wouldn't have come as such a surprise, right?

Hahaha, the 5 Stages of Grief thread is an absolute belter. Jamez Hanson has just got L2 POTM but this "in their blue ties" quote cracked me up and is my highlight of the season so far:

Impish :lol::lol::lol:

This is all just off page one, too. I'm saving the rest for later. You know it's ridiculous when Scotimp is the one talking sense.
All of this is absolutely doing my nut in!! Grown men saying they have been reduced to tears, give me fucking strength! If that is the limit of problems in your life then you are a very lucky person indeed.
Watching videos of HTFC training session, ridiculous.
As someone said after I remarked about people needing to get a grip on reality, "Reading this thread is like Smash Hits when Take That split up". It has been embarrassing at times.
They did very well for us, but they have left the building. Good luck to them, but move on for fucks sake.

After having a look at Vitals, its been a while since I’ve seen a such a bunch of ungrateful fans. They’ve taken them up two divisions, prepared them as best as possible for the new season and left for a club far more likely to make it at Championship level than Lincoln. Beggars belief some of the stuff I’ve read on there. How quickly opinions change...

Thats football fans for ya- Grimsby forums were vociferous in the desire to get rid of Jolley- now he is the saviour. Football is a very fickle business these days with very little loyalty.

Like most of us- they have done well by us and we have done well by them. Next chapter now.

Much more like today and this thread will turn out to be correct!
2 fucking rank bad sides today and a referee to suit.
We do now know the new manager won't be an internal appointment.

A kinder run? Southend and Accrington, fair enough. But Fleetwood, Rotherham, MK and Doncaster isn't particularly kind (not disagreeing with your wider point r.e. where we'd finish).

Fleetwood and especially Rotherham are anything but easy games, but Doncaster will be no better than mid-table, MK will finish bottom half and Accrington and Southend will be lucky to stay up. Compared to some other teams that run of matches is relatively kind. Sunderland, Ipswich, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Coventry and Rotherham will finish in the top 6 this season IMO, with Fleetwood, Oxford, Shewsbury, Blackpool and perhaps Wycombe and yourselves completing the top half. You only played against 2 of these eleven, while playing two strong relegation candidates.

As I said, I think you had a kind run of fixtures and 2 months down the line you could well have been sitting in mid-table and then the Cowley's would have not appeared a particularly attractive proposition to clubs in a higher division.

This was perfect timing for them.

SoC, I know you're taking the piss (and probably enjoying the situafion), but it hurt when they left. I'm firmly in the sad to see them go camp, but fully understand the move. I will be forever grateful for what they achieved and will forever cherish the memories, especially that first season.

Prior to them, my only knowledge of Lincoln success was losing in the play offs 5 times. It's been a tough gig being a Lincoln fan and watching the men that finally bought about success leave is difficult.

Now we need to move quick and get the right man in, otherwise this could be a long season.

And now a thread on Vitals about Huddersfield against Wendies. Some people really do need help. I worry about some and how some will deal with serious problems in wider life, like having no milk in the house.

You probably need to go and support someone else- "2 rank bad sides"!? The current Imps team is anything but rank bad. We haven't played as well as I'd like them to since Donny away but to call them a rank bad side is facile.

Now we know the facts of the Cowley's leaving, the impact of the last 3 weeks is clear.

We are far from a bad team BUT we do need a manager who understands L1 and implements a gameplan which gets the best out of the players and sets them up each game.

Decided to have a read of it this morning after I woke up and couldn't be bothered getting out of bed yet. Read the first few pages and skipped to the end, quite entertaining I thought.

Are there quite a few newish Lincoln fans who've never experienced the harsh reality that club footballing staff aren't also die hard fans.

Perhaps they were more accustomed to the Premier league than Lincoln pre-Cowleys where you do get players and managers who free from the temptation to step up another level do often become as passionate about the club as the fans.

Perhaps also a lot of older Lincoln fans also got took along for the ride and told themselves that this time it was different, that the Cowleys would eventually leave but it would take a club of the stature of a West Ham. Their loyalty to Lincoln was much greater than most of us are used to but the limit of that loyalty wasn't as far away as many of their fans thought.

Yeah one very isolated front man just isn't working, the rest of the team need to support far better spotted this from the first game.
Hopefully some tweaks on the way with the new manager.

Since the interview came out with their owner it was clear something was going on from the Doncaster league game onwards.
Apparently his behaviour was becoming more erratic, ,one example being losing the plot over the pitch not being watered enough for the Southend game, we won 4 0.

He has form in that respect though. Maybe Huddersfield tempted him over by showing him the fancy computerised, intelligent sprinkler system at the Galpharm

No, we aren't rank bad every week, but yesterday we were dreadful and just about deserved 0-0 because they were no better. After about 25 years of season tickets I've seen a lot worse and no doubt will in the future.
You are right about needing a new man in quick sharp. Jamie, bless him, and i have no problem with him at all, didn't do a thing to affect the game yesterday and must not want the job. New ideas are definitely required because our current set-up and approach is creating us more problems than the opposition. I think that trend probably goes back to the league game at Donny.

You base your opinion on us on what?

The loss of your manager and top goal-scorer over the summer; Replacing McCann with Darren Moore (who I would like to see do well with you) who I have doubts about after his spell managing WBA; that it seems your win against Rotherham flattered you after you were outplayed for most of the match; and that I believe the division is stronger and more competitive than last year and that there are 8 teams who will finish above you*, even if some of the sides I believe will finish in the top 6 haven't come into form yet.

Overall my guess is that you won't better (or match) last seasons finish and ultimately will finish somewhere in the middle 8 teams from 9-16, if perhaps closer to the the top end of that pack than the bottom.

* Sunderland, Peterborough, Rotherham, Ipswich, Portsmouth, Coventry, Oxford and Fleetwood.

Yeah the home game against you guys when the pitch wasn't watered due to someone not refilling the water tank used was the first time he had the rant, he eventually got the head groundsman the boot, the second during his tenure, the first one was at the club for years.

The win against Rotherham didn’t flatter us at all, we were far better than Ipswich yesterday beat Fleetwood when our team didn’t know each other. We are playing far better football under big d than we were with McCann. You can see they don’t panic are far fitter too hence the late goals. We haven’t replaced Marquis but the style of play doesn’t seem to make that a problem. I understand from an outside view why you would think we will only be a mid table team at best but honestly you can see improvement every game and Big D says there is more to come.

You are partly right, in the end you were worthy of the points, but for most of the first half and the first few minutes of the second half we were all over you like a rash but didn't get the 2nd goal we needed.
Your subs made a huge difference whereas ours made us weaker and you ran the game from then on.
I thought you moved the ball well and was surprised at how good you were at times.
My one reservation is that you look quite a small team apart from that huge number 4 and that may count against you as the season progresses.

Interesting to hear and on reflection I should perhaps keep an open mind as to your chances this season. In what way has your style changed? Are you attempting to play it out from the back, for example? It would interesting to hear if Big Dave has changed his approach from what he tried last season with us.

Yes we are playing it out from the back but last season we played a 4-3-3 system this season is 4-2-3-1 we appear fitter far more fluid and have a great deal of pace
