I’d hazard a guess there’ll be few Liverpool and Man Utd shirts getting their first airing for a while round Lincoln in the next couple of weeks.

A million in compo? If so should get us a good manager to get out of this league ,i wish danny and nicky all the best ,but fear the worst for them ,think they will go the same way as jones at stoke , still could be worse could be in GY or scunny shoes

I'm not going down the old 'ITK' route, but that list is accurate (and in any event, I'm sure Conker and GodsGift would back me up on how I'm not a bullshitter anyway).

I'm not saying they were offered every job, but every one of those Clubs have made a call / inquired / held 'unofficial' discussions / been interviewed about/with them at some point and Cowley was told about every one of those. It's always been their decision. That was the level of trust between them and the Chairman, which is why they were allowed complete control of the playing side from top to bottom as well.

Hartlepool made a phone call after they sacked Hignett or Jones, can't remember which, for example, in 2017.

Of course, most couldn't afford the compensation package anyway - £1m for the both of them since their first cont.

I hereby back up Luke claim that he’s not a bullshitter, to be fair.

I don’t doubt the interest from the clubs mentioned but I’m skeptical on how serious quite a few of them were, I know very well how clubs act in those situations and they have a big feeling out process with several managers typically.

I hope he tidied the dressing room before he left.

Wednesday made contact but couldn't agree on certain aspects of control

Cowley never met with ME. Paper talk at best. He was never first, nor second choice; behind the likes of Lampard (who held talks) and ultimately Hurst, who ME wanted from the off but agreed to wait until after Shrews playoff final before making any kind of approach.

Absolutely gutted, I really am. Frustrating time (/odd) time for him to go, just after he's assembled a squad for the season. Though huddersfield is undoubtedly a step up, it seems an odd destination choice. I can't help but feel they were banking on the Wednesday job which makes more sense in terms of potential. Anyway, can't blame them for taking the job and the huge pay rise. Really hope it does affect any loans or the squad morale, but let's not kid ourselves it's a huge blow. Good luck Danny and Nicky, thanks for an incredible 3 years. Saturday will be an odd experience, never lost a manager mid season when they were actually doing well before.

I'm going to go sit in a corner by myself for a while.

Even if we were, not sure why he would leave you for us.
He has very strong ties here, but you have a considerably bigger budget (at present) and he is ambitious.

We are unlikely to be challenging for promotion from this division for a couple of years at least.

Obviously, I hope there is no chance.

Paul Hurst should be in the frame for this, doing a terrific job down the road at Scunny and he really should be given the chance to do a similar job at Lincoln.

Yep, think they thought the Wednesday job was theirs but as i alluded to there were a couple of issues which made it a no go.

Jesus christ. I've only just educated myself on Scunthorpes start to the season.

He must be massively regretting us poaching him from Shrewsbury. He's going to be on the managerial scrap heap in no time at this rate.

You jest, but I saw Cowley and Hurst on similar paths and doing similar things over the years.

Cowley is (far) better in the big games but they're both organised, generally have good defences, don't mind taking on 'damaged goods' and moulding a team who perform more than the individuals.

Difference is, Hurst made two bad career moves. Ipswich had been seemingly going downhill for years so that one was a toughie from the outset and at Scunny they have a Chairman who uses £50 notes as plaster and never seems to get to the core of the problems whilst getting through managers and endless players.

And, of course, Hurst isn't a people person. He just doesn't seem to develop relationships with the fans.

Hurst is a miserable git. Nothing like the Cowleys in terms of fan engagement, as evidenced by the "ear-cupping" at Wembley. I get that Grimsby fans had higher expectations and had been on his back, and he probably under achieved on their budget so he had taken some stick, bug still...

I think we have been spoilt by the Cowleys but "people skills", especially with the fans, will be an important consideration in whoever we appoint.

Sorry but Southend never made any inquiry, held any kind of discussions or made a call about the Cowley's. Both Danny Cowley and Ron Martin confirmed neither had ever been in touch with each other or a club he'd been employed by at any stage of his career before our game a few weeks ago .
Ron admitted he wouldn't even have paid compo to Concord if he'd approached Cowley way back when he was just down the road, there's just never been a time when Cowley has been a free agent and Southend managerless for him to be considered.

As for them off to Huddersfield I'd also like to add my confusion to the pile, the come back offer from Huddersfield must have been spectacular. Think they'll do alright there though but surprised they've gone now rather than the end of the season.

Hmmm, until the Cowleys have achieved something with Huddersfield though, they haven't really outdone Hurst.

Not sure on the far better in big games opinion either. Yep they won the EFL Trophy, but aren't you forgetting the Grimsby v Braintree playoff semi?

I think he means big games in general not big games against each other.

There is only one guy with an ego big enough to take over from the Cowley’s.
