New managers coming in seems to have the desired effect a lot more often than not. Players seem to motivate themselves more, suppose it's a bit like a relationship everyone's always dead keen at the start then it just becomes mundane. Sad but true.
Palace getting rid of De Boer after 4 or 5 games was seen as ridiculous (by me also) but it definitely kept them up. Too much at stake these days money wise whether it be dropping into the champ or the NL. A lot of chairmen would rather take action and go down anyway than do nothing and go down thinking what if. Ours did the latter.
