Damn you Dons, you rumbled Tisdale a full decade before we did!

Well apart from he got you back into the Football League, getting and keeping you in Lg 1 for 3 seasons, helping build the club off the pitch etc. How much of a drama queen are you!

We all accept that his first five seasons were exceptional. After that, not so good. Some of the things he said and wrote in the last season upset many of the fans. He threw a hissy fit when his rolling contract was changed to a standard two year one when we were bottom of the league and never seemed to have a good word to say about the support.
Coupled with taking many of the staff and players with him when he went and you can see why most City fans think we now have a better manager

Tisdale is a wonderful Manager until he ends up managing your own club. He lives Swindon way, I look forward to him taking the reigns at your place when the time comes. As denzel helpfully suggests, Tisdale’s time time at ECFC is way more nuanced than most people outside our fan base realise. A case in point is Tisdale’s sacking by the Dons less than 20 games after getting them promotion.

Which is certainly different from your initial statement. I have no doubt there is good and bad as with any long term manager generally.

And it does seem from the outside that he helped (I emphasise helped) set up the development infrastructure and then use the young players coming through. Don't underestimate a manager being willing to use Academy players as we had Pep Clotet and he wasn't keen instead signing crap players like Tiendalli, Xemi, Gino van Kessel, Agon Mehmeti and an injury ravaged Mike Williamson. So he has helped lay foundations for the club.

And from memory and these comments it sounds a bit like Chris Wilder and us where his stay should have naturally finished earlier. For example, there were public issues between Wilder and the fanbase whilst also touting himself for other jobs for at least a season but I will always be very grateful that he got us back in the Football League and stabilised us back here.

The credit for the success of the Academy at ECFC goes overwhelmingly to a fella called Simon Hayward (Head of the Academy) and the current Chairman Julian Tagg, who when we were an economic basket-case had the foresight to keep it going. I'm not sure it takes a managerial genius to pick the sort of talent we've had come through the academy for the first team over recent seasons. I'm open to the accusation that familiarity had bred a bit of contempt re. Tisdale and ECFC, but if you're interested enough have a butchers at the Dons forum and compare the complaints about Tisdale there, with the bulk of those made by City fans towards the end, they are remarkably similar.
Its more than just the results, trust me.

Russell Martin as player-manager seems a high risk appointment for MK, given their current difficulties.

Don't assume a manager will play a young talent (however good there are) because they are in your Academy set up, I refer back to my post about Pep Clotet and contrast with Karl Robinson's attitude/approach. I point you to Lampard at Chelsea, Pocchettino at Spurs or Ole Gunnar Solksjaer at Man Utd compared to their predecessors.

And Tisdale will have played a part in the development of your Academy though just as Karl Robinson has. Dan Harris gets a hell of a lot of credit for pushing ours on, as does Simon Lenagan, Les Taylor, Leon Blackmore-Such and others. But without a path and real chance of getting into your 1st team then better players won't sign for your club's set up.

I have no doubt there are issues with Tisdale, but your opening post pretty much dismissed his achievements which your 2nd post then acknowledged.

In the circumstances, I think Russell Martin could be a shrewd choice. We'll obviously have paid off Tisdale, Butterfield and Oakley which won't have been cheap and hopefully we'll have something left for January. Appointing Martin is the cheap(er) option. He knows the squad, he's integrated, has a couple of months to decide what we need.

It's also a big risk. Tisdale was probably the best possible manager we could have got for getting out of L2 (he knows that league inside out), but if we're relegated we won't be able to call on him again so it'll be far tougher next time around if the worst happens for us.

Reckon Martin will do the job, we'll stay up - we can't get much worse than we are now and we're changing just in time for him to be able to have space to look at the squad and enhance it in January. Hopefully with his contacts we'll get some good loanees from Norwich and elsewhere.

Martin feels like what MK did last time they were in L1 with Micchie (is that spelt correctly?!).

A very quick appointment, though. Makes you wonder how long it has been planned for.

No, I made a comment looking at his tenure as a whole and later acknowledged denzels comment about his contribution to our success at the beginning of his reign.

The only similarity is that they've both never managed a first team squad before.

When we hired Micciche it was the last week of the January window and we were in the relegation zone. He had no time to assess the squad/bring in suitable players.

Martin already knows the squad and is fully integrated as a player. He has 2 months before the January window to identify what we need and arguably has more contacts than Micciche did. I'm optimistic. Not expecting a huge turnaround but think he'll keep us up.

Well that turned to ratshit quite quickly.

I don't take a lot of notice of club politics for a better word but on the pitch we have been a car crash and Tisdale didn't seem to have an answer for it.

While I didn't expect us to be anywhere near promotion I thought we would be a solid mid table bet with the recruitment we had.

Maybe Tisdales level is league 2 as he didn't seem to have any answers when things started to go pear shaped and now we have another newbie. Oh well, cest la vie at Stadium MK!

Are you saying there was possibly a football politics aspect to Tisdale’s sacking? This would chime with certain periods of Tisdale’s time at ECFC it has to be said.

We haven't been a club to pull the trigger at the first whiff of trouble and yes we have been bad but we are still well placed to get out of the relegation area. I just think there is probably more to the sacking that just the on field play bearing in mind he just got us promoted.

Seems to have been an approach from Mansfield

Why he would quit rovers who are 4th in league one for Mansfield struggling in league 2 is a mind boggler, unless he is from that area?

Especially given Mansfield have sacked their current manager yet as far as I know

He’s Irish and lives around Sheffield. I’m surprised they even approached us tbh.

Most likely they approached, he asked about money moving forward and the board said no money, more selling of our best players.

Fucking twats.

Surely he has more roots down your way cos of the time spent with Plymouth than he does at ours.

Dempster sacked.

We tried to get Exeter manager earlier in the season but he turned us down.

Family still live up your way apparently, with kids in school there. Him and the assistant manager, Dunne, live in an apartment in Bristol city centre together.

Honestly this ownership is an absolute shambles.

Reading this, the factors seem to be a lack of funds down south, poor training facilities and the distance from his Sheffield home.

He’s got a top L2 squad (albeit embarrassingly underperforming) a brand new training ground, under a hour from home and I’d speculate more money too, at least equal.

I’m not saying it’s the correct decision for him (if true) but these seem to be the likely motivation factors?

I’m not really in the mood for a detailed report, I’m sure you can understand atm.

However, in short - the football is not pretty, but it’s damn effective. He will set you up this season to survive and grind awful, ugly points - but they’ll be needed. Next season (this for us), it’ll improve but after all, he’s an old school defender who likes traditional old school football.

The part I’m very curious about is how this all came to be. Someone’s claiming he’s been tapped up, which sounds possible with the series of events.

If we complain, not sure what the penalty would be for Mansfield?

Well you would have to complain and Mansfield proven guilty.

If he’s actually coming here it probably means we have agreed a compensation fee.
