I think Barrow will be safe and would be had they stuck with Cooper. However this feels like a very strange appointment and agree with E2W above.

IF we hadn't got Neil McDonald in as assistant - who was Rob Kelly's assistant when he kept us up last season i might agree.
Mcdonald was useless here literally sat back and let Taylor hang himself hope hes better with you.

To be fair to Phil Brown, Southend hired him too late last season and despite turning their form around he was unable to save them - Think he only lost one game which was 2-1 away at Colchester, but it effectively relegated them leaving them needing snookers which didn't happen.

Think the National League swallowed him up though, if you don't adapt to that league quickly you won't last in it.

I do notice though the Orient fans' worries about being on the receiving end of yet another new manager bounce when first hearing Cooper had gone seem to have completely dissipated.

He never stood a chance in the National League after some appalling summer transfer business.

I don't think he's necessarily a poor manager tactically, but just don't give him a transfer window.

He's got all week to work with the team, Wellens has had to content with 3 weeks of Saturday/Tuesday games so far! Every chance we'll shoot our bolt by Saturday, that and we're still on the crap side.

That's the worry - we could scrape survival by a point and our board will give him a 3-year deal.

Surprising appoinrment. Kind of stinks of we don’t have a clue what to do but we have to do something and we don’t have much time to do it.

I guess even if he’s crap there’s always that chance of a new manager bounce where you can get 2 or 3 vital wins.

Watch yourself when criticising the board. I mentioned that their track record of appointments is poor on the Facebook fans page and got told to fuck off and support another club as they got us back into the football league.

I've been wrong about almost every Barrow manager in the past, thought Jolley and Cooper were both the right appointment and thought Evatt was a cheap and desperate appointment - so hopefully I'm wrong about this one!

I've definitely bought into the idea that he just signs players that were decent a decade ago and his tactics are 10 years past their sell by date too, but maybe this is the type of back-to-basics outlook we need, rather than trusting any old chancer with a "philosophy".

Not optimistic for the football, nor the summer transfer window, but I think we've probably got a better chance of staying up now as Cooper had lost it.

I'm not sure I buy this old fashioned/new way of football anology.

I was watching the Real Madrid v Barcelona game and Real took a stuffing playing with a false nine and playing the lines up and down the field while Barca had loads of praise for their innovative game plan that had defenders launching long balls over the top.

It's very basic. Look at the players you have, play to that style. Look at the opposition, do what they don't want you to.

Yems may be a curmudgeon but he does know his stuff (sometimes ).

Funnily enough I'm not the greatest fan of how he has his teams play but it may be a case of needs must and his record in management knocks mine into a cooked hat.

Who are the Barrow owners, are they popular with the fans? Don’t seem to have a high profile.

Just local businessmen really, the chairman runs an accountancy firm. I think it's fair to say they're popular - they funded promotion - but I'm sure the others on here would agree that they've certainly been naive at times, such as taking on David Dunn without any formal interview process, and begging Cooper to come up here when it's now painfully obvious he didn't want to be here at all.

Again, Phil Brown feels like it was the first name put to them and they've jumped at it. Time will tell on that one.

Their failure to secure any decent training facilities, and some of the stadium patch-up jobs make us appear a bit amateurish, but their intentions are good and they seem committed to getting us challenging for League 1, so it's hard to complain too much.

Aye pretty much spot on. I'd add to that though we've had plenty of turnover off the pitch as well which worries me too. We've had people recruited in commercial and hospitality management type roles that haven't lasted six months in some cases, and then haven't been backfilled.

Our fan base gets weird though, a lot of the older ones have been there through some tough times falling out of the league and dealing with Steven Vaughan 20 years later. They're keen to reiterate that we've never had it so good divisional wise and they're effectively saying we are ungrateful for what they've done for us and the board are immune to criticism because they got us here, but in my eyes and a lot of others they've made a number of mistakes that they need to learn from quickly if we are going to stay here long term.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and it's been discussed quite a bit over the last couple of days, but Cooper having never applied for the job may have been a bit of a red flag. I'm sure there would have been other suitable candidates that were more keen from the start. Keith Hill for example? I know he's struggling at Scunny but we all know where their problems are.

I don't mind him. I assume that Crawley journalists do however! I do quite enjoy his brutal honesty, and let's be honest football manager/player interviews are fucking dull/identikit and at least he doesn't toe the line with the standard football cliché responses.

I quite like Yems also. Seems a bit of a character and done a decent job there in fairness. To be honest if you see some of his interviews with the Crawley media lad I suspect at times its a bit of an in joke between them at this point as it does seem to be done with a wink and a nod.

I never mind him, I know Josh has done a couple of tack the mick video's of him after our games which are funny, hes a character, like a grumpier version of DC/Mick Adams.

Says what he thinks and to be fair has been complimentary of us despite having a moan and given us credit, unlike say Clough or Coleman.

Not sure with Yems though where he drinks as he referred to drinking in Wetherstones in our after game interview!

Yems lives in Horsham (10 miles from Crawley). One of the richest places in Britain. He doesn't have a local Wetherspoons to drink in.

The reporter with whom (get me) he had the first stupid question row with gets along fine with him. As I say, he is an amusing, engaging bloke when you chat to him.

Some of the most ridiculous post-match interviews have been from managers who have then been successful at this level. Coleman is a good example of that (we once turned off the stadium lights in the middle of him having a moan about us to his local media, it was quite funny he just gets plunged into total darkness). Also Nathan Jones, saying that Luton were the best team in the division despite finishing second, and of course Dave Artell who sounds like an absolute mullet yet got his side promoted.

I think some of it is like Yems, a bit of a carefully planned persona... some of it is managers with a drive to succeed that does make them succeed but also makes them say stupid things when they are losing games.
