Bloody hell, this was a difficult one to update. Congrats Notts County, you're our first '2' changes team.

Hurst made a poor choice with Ipswich stepping up too soon, although I think he left Shrewsbury as he knew it was gonna go downhill if he stayed. He has time to pick his next job now though and he is worthy of a decent L1 job. Notts is a shitshow of a job at a level lower than he is proven at, so he should avoid at all costs in my opinion.

Pretty close

Plenty of #obsession on display GTFC , can’t believe you’ve commented on it with it being your topic of choice after Lincoln City FC.

We’ve got multiple posts on other teams match threads, we’ve got a hard on or at least semi in Costa Del Stags case, and even a new designated thread from Stags fans. All in a few days. Yet nothing from you? Not even a squeak! Dont tell me you’ve changed your tune without letting me know buddy?#consistency

We’ve spoken to Paul Heckingbottom now. Another significant upgrade on the previous incumbent. Ardley has plunged in the odds too. Anyone of those two or Hurst would do me.

Exactly so all these people saying it’s a bad move and would be crazy to go there and Grimsby fans saying dropping down to Notts for Hurst is madness are talking tripe or just aren’t bright enough to comment.

When you stop and think it isn’t. You have a chairman who backs managers, you have (obvious) potential, you have the impressive history and if it all goes pear shaped within half a season or so or cos the chairman loses his cool on Twitter and sacks you. Then you just say it’s a poisoned chalice , no harm done to rep and walk away with a nice lump sum.

It’s really not rocket science folks
A chairman who backs managers? Haha, either you've got an incredibly short memory or Kewell walked away by himself? I'm not say Hurst going to Notts is madness, there are obvious appeals to the job as I have not disagreed with. However, all I'm saying is he could get a decent L1 job when it inevitably comes along and not have to spend a season or two or three getting back into L1.

Whoever they appoint you gotta stick with him, if the next manager cannot get that squad out of relegation battle probably nobody else can.

I think a improvement is on the cards if Hurst mind, although I don’t particularly rate him he’s going to at least get you working as a unit eventually.

How come you don't rate Hurst, out of interest? I'm not asking because I'm gonna jump down your throat, by the way. Quite a few fans of other clubs on here back in the Conference days were never sold on him either. GG for one, ChrisFGR too maybe?

To be fair, on the Kewell thing, it seems to be more a case of his relationship with the players and staff at the club having completely broken down and leaving Hardy with little choice.

GTFC will fully understand :P1:No beef, just asking a question/questions

All I’m really bothered about is who we appointment , all the rest is just fluff and piffle. Hearsay, guesswork, educated and uneducated opinion. Fingers crossed it’s Hurst but you never know

I just think if Mansfield appointed him I would be very 'meh' and that's just taking in to account his style of management. I am not saying he's a bad manager, far from it and I think for County he is probably the best option considering the situation they are in.

I'll be honest I am just not convinced but I am not particularly sure why, I suppose the season Shrewsbury finished 3rd felt like a bit of a fluke to me.

I reckon most on here would rate him over Flitcroft, and I know it's easy to stick up for him while we are doing well but he's got Mansfield playing the best football I have witnessed since our free-flowing attacking team led by Curle years ago, but we can actually defend now so it's better. Take in to account the fact he's already achieved promotion in this division and likely will see us in the top 7 this season I find the fact he's rated less than Hurst a bit bizarre. Apperantly he got a 50% win ratio at Swindon (according to Wiki) and they hate him! I do understand quite a lot of the grumbles they had with him though.

Paul Cox got double promotion with Eastwood, came to Mansfield, finished 3rd, then 1st in the Conference and left with our second highest win ratio in the club history and I never rated him either  He has since been proven to be rammel to be fair.

I like Hurst, I think he's a good manager and any fan of a L2 side, especially one struggling down at the bottom like County, should be happy were he to be appointed their manager. I wouldn't be too disappointed were he to take over at Lincoln should the Cowleys leave. I just think he's better suited to a side with no real expectations, i.e. Shrewsbury, and not a side who want automatic promotion as you lot did (and rightly so) back in the Conference. He's simply not adventurous enough to win a title, although that's clearly not as big a problem in L2 as it is in the Conference for obvious reasons.

I don't get why he hits out at the fans so much though. Literally seconds after Grimsby had won the play-off final his first thought was to cup his ears to your end. Strange. That was the moment to enjoy the moment and be a united club. And then he questioned why Shrewsbury were still only getting 4k at home at the back end of last season when they were a few weeks away from the play-offs. There's one thing thinking it, but saying it out loud is another matter entirely. Any manager who is at odds with his own fanbase is always going to be facing an uphill battle.

The best option for Notts right now has got to be Shaun Derry. He'll bore all the fans to death, but he'll pick up enough points through goalless draws and lucky 1 nil wins to steer the Pies to a lower mid table position.Hardy can then fire him as soon as the club is mathematically safe and appoint a much more competent man for next season.

How did you not know this SOC?

Because some sides were decent In 1953 or something completely irrelevant to now, they should start on more points than others.

Incredibly, he seemed to be one of the leading contenders on Friday night with rumours he was being lined up.. quite a few fans were up for it, too!

We’ve said tonight there is a three man shortlist with 2nd interviews this week. Going off the bookies odds it’s Hurst, Heckingbottom and Ardley, which we can’t really complain about when 2nd bottom of the football league. I’d be happy with any, but in our current predicament I’d probably go 1.Hurst 2. Heckingbottom 3. Ardley.

1953? You can’t really be that dumb! Surely not?

Please remind us when was your side decent? Were you even born when then?

 That’s exactly my point, who cares if someone was decent in the past, it’s 100% irrelevant to now, not one iota matters.

You make no sense. You can’t be sensitive to something that’s irrelevant.

I wonder what those at old etonians do with their fa cups? Are they still in existence? Won’t do them any good in 2018. It’s just a flawed argument.

Those that bang on about the past probably have their heads in the sand about the current demise of their own club. Ring any bells?

I think the lads getting a little confused rather than him being dumb.

The discussion was whether a club’s history has any impact on the type of manager you can attract. So last season’s performance by the club both on and off the field has no bearing whatsoever on a potential new managers thoughts on whether he wants the job or not?

You think he simply checks the league tables see’s it’s L2 and 23rd and thinks , I don’t care who they are is not for me?! Surely not even you can think it’s purely on the current league table. Conks , someone help him out here

I get it you are embarrassed but you never answered the question. Why 1953? And more importantly when were Mansfield decent?*

* please say now, please pretty please.

I picked a year out, FYI I’ve not a clue what happened to any team that year, why would I, who would care.
