I would say we played well until around mid September last season, then the majority of performances after that have been dour, with the odd exception. I wanted him to go in April last year, but listened to others and decided to give him a little longer and hope that he would actually learn something and even change his formation once in a while. He did change the formation very slightly in the odd game, however, the majority of games we set up to keep it at 0-0 and failed miserably, due in the most part to zonal marking. 5 at the back was the prevalent issue for me, we were promised attacking football when he joined, we have seen anything but. We have conceded a set piece goal in every single league game thus far. He was asked in a recent AGM about zonal marking, and his response was something along the lines of 'when it isn't working we will change it'... newsflash Robbie, it has never worked for us. His stubbornness and no plan b have cost him his job here. We pose absolutely no threat whatsoever in most away games, and it took us 70 mins to even muster a shot against Stevenage on Tuesday night. I wanted him to do well, but he's just not up to the job, most games we don't even look as though we have any game plan at all (both away games at Gills & Stevenage prime examples of this). I do believe we have some half decent players, so just hope we get the next appointment right to ensure we don't drop into non-league. We just need to get behind the team now, I'll be at Swindon tomorrow hoping we can just at least take a point back home to get our season up and running.

Does this count as a win? Feels like it.
No idea who we end up with. I wanted us to bin off Stockdale for Pete Wild last year. Barrow's gain.
I would hope we go for someone with league two experience and not another ex academy manager or a cheap hire from within.
Graham Alexander with Rochdale lad Chris Lucketti as assistant seems the best idea so far.

Apparently Wild said he wouldn't manage anyone else in the Greater Manchester area given his ties to Oldham. That's why United ended up with that Nine Bags or whatever he's called.

Would think Chris Beech would be on the Dale shortlist, think he could do well somewhere but has a lot of flaws which made him very unpopular. Not sure Dale have the players for his direct tactics.

if you do that a new guy would have to be installed and overhall the squad in 10 days - it would take that long just to get a translator who could handle all the different Scottish accents in the dressing room.....

He was our manager for about 10 games a few years ago after Eyre was sacked. Wasn't great, hut Eyres squad was dogshit so no surprise but he pulled in some half decent loan signings from memory. He still watches us from time to time. I was chatting to him at Walsall away last season.

16% win ratio and one of the worse managers at the mill for a long time, might be best to ask Bristol Rovers fans

He did a good job for Rovers in L1 but for whatever reason he was hopeless here. Nice enough bloke though and was always honest in his interviews.

Some managers just don't work at some clubs and do at others - Wellens for example was great for us but horribly bad at Salford and Donny but it seems to be working again at Orient. Ben Garner was similar to Coughlan at Mansfield, hideously bad at Rovers but did really well with us and seems to have started well at Charlton.

Not idea what this proves really apart from give the guy a chance! (yes 16% win ratio is desperate and can't be ignored!)

Yes his results were not bad -- But the football was awful to watch. At least you won't need to spend any money on midfielders if you employ him.

I think Artell would be a good pick for Rochdale. They seem like a similar club to us in a similar position to what we were in when he took over.

He seems a good pick but I have heard from a decent source he has turned us down.
I think some out of work managers will be keeping an eye on the likes of Burton in the league above. When they fire off JFH that is likely a more attractive option.

Seems like the right place to put this.

Crawley have appointed Chris Galley as dof and interim ceo (while a search continues). The blurb on the Crawley site has this to say...

"Prior to his appointment, Galley served as Head of Pro Services for StatsBomb, the leading football analytics firm, where he led the company’s consulting practice and advised professional clubs on player recruitment, strategy and tactics. He previously spent a decade at Matthew Benham’s Smartodds, where he was responsible for research, analysis and the application of statistical models, while also working behind the scenes assisting Benham’s own football clubs — Brentford FC of the English Premier League and FC Midtjylland of the Danish Superliga — with coaching searches and player recruitment."

To be honest I've never heard of him but he does seem to have a history of player recruitment and statistical modelling which seems to be de rigour for a dof.

Hard not to comment on rumours and bookies odds (nowt else to go off) but John Askey is now 1/5 for our next manager.

I'd be surprised if Askey left York for Rochdale but I guess you never know

Can't see it.
York seem to be on the 'up' again, why leave for team rooted to the bottom of the league, even if it the one above.

28% win record with Morecambe, yuck.
That's a bit harsh on him. They had the lowest budget nearly every season with him in charge and his brief was to keep them up. Which he did.

A Morecambe fan would give you a better idea but it seemed it was him leaving that convinced them to up the budget a bit.

They finally change managers after 8 years and they get promoted the following season, seems like they should've changed managers sooner than stick with one who had such an horrendous record! :woot:

Morecambe seemed to spend most of their time under Bentley playing for draws, they were so negative. Even their fans didn't think that needed to be his version of negative despite their size of budget.
