Crawley have released a statement regarding the Matty Etherington at Colchester .... thingy...

“We want to apologize to the Colchester United fans who were caught in the middle of an unfortunate situation.

Matthew Etherington resigned as Crawley Town manager last December and had the following clause in his contract:

"The Manager shall not be permitted to bring his Agreement to an end early under this clause to take up employment at or be otherwise engaged by another football club playing in the same or a lower league as the Club is playing in at that time. No buyout will be permitted in such circumstances."

We were not aware that Matthew had been in breach since June 28, 2023, when he was appointed the U-21 coach of Colchester, until Wednesday of this past week. On Thursday, we clarified his contract with our legal team and alerted Colchester on Friday.

When we alerted Robbie Cowling Friday, we were told he would provide us zero compensation for Matthew.

We do not believe Robbie or Colchester had any idea until Friday that Matthew was in breach of the contract he signed with us. We have no problem if he is an under-21 coach at Colchester and if Matthew asks us permission to reassume that role, we'd be happy to grant it.

We're happy Colchester won on Saturday and we wish Robbie and his team the best in their ongoing managerial search.“

All a bit vindictive to me as the bloke resigned (and he did resign and completely stumped Wagmi when he did) 10 months ago.

But if he resigned in December and started at Colchester in June then presumably he didn't, '...bring this Agreement to an end... to take up employment at... another football club...' Because there was a six month gap.

Orsi has scored every 241 minutes on the pitch this season. Donovan Wilson every 85 mins.

Stats eh?
It was just a flippant 4-Yorkshiremen type remark…yes Wilson has started well, but we’ve not had him on the pitch for that many minutes, Orsi has played all but 1 games this season. We would have had both.

That would also given us the option of Wilson playing out wide.

Lots I could say about this, but one thing leaps out. if Etherington had this clause in his contract, Lindsey will too. (I'm not suggesting that it's certain that Lindsey wants to leave, or even has really had 2 interviews with Gillingham).
Anyway, about Etherington, and WAGMi in general, in the real world people make mistakes with the jobs they take. I'm not denying that if you accept a job as manager of a football club, you should be pretty damn certain a) that you want the job and b) You're not going to be sending an email along the lines of 'Have signed contract, please review' the 5 words contractual lawyers most fear.
WAGMI always seem to feel that they're hard done by circumstances, but it's a business where players, managers and clubs take huge risks that they simply can't be sure are the right decisions.
I'm honestly worried about Etherington, because, sure, he's probably a bit of a wally, and his mistake caused a lot of trouble. It could have resulted in Crawley being relegated. He's a real person though, trying to put his career back together. He comes across as quite vulnerable, honestly.
This message from Eben makes me think he realises he's messed up by annoying clubs and managers. People talk to each other.
Also, he didn't know Etherington had become the caretaker manager? It's a bit worrying in 2 completely different ways that i seem to know more about what's going on than Eben. i need to be considerably less invested, and he needs to be considerably more.

Looks like there was never anything in the Lee Bell to Bradford rumours. Which is pretty much exactly what I expected.

Each club situation is entirely different.
Can't imagine there's any Head Coach who's willing to go to a Club and have absolutely no say over players, though?

There might be slight variants to it i.e. the Club might choose to go after a promising youngster knowing the chances are he'll out last the manager but that aside, I'm not sure how a Board can hold a Head Coach accountable if they're not at least in part making the decisions.

That definitely happens despite how obviously bad an idea it is.

I’m not against the idea, but it all depends if those at the club are capable of pulling off the correct decision for both jobs.

I'm still drafting my Hurst Sacking Mega Post but had to take some time out to ask Firthy how on Earth he managed to get Lee Bell's phone number?

Nathan Rooney been mentioned a few times and he's just posted on X about starting a new challenge this week so maybe he's the coach, or maybe another club in England? Or nothing in it and just talking about his current club!

Wish we'd just appoint someone now. Can't do with all the idiots on Twitter pretending to be in the know. Aidy Boothroyd the latest rumour from the attention seekers.

It’s the waiting for the crushingly disappointing appointment that’s the worse, vibes of Michael Collins all over again.

Sick bastard whoever made that one up. That would be one of the most disgraceful appointments this club could make its not even funny.

Yep. That'd be me done for a while if he was appointed.

Stockwood has made it clear we are not looking into a director of football and a future manager/first team coach will still very much be involved in recruitment

The interview gives me a lot of hope, the fact we’ve looked into this for 6 weeks just goes to show none of us know what’s gone on and we’re not used to having people at the helm who genuinely know what they’re doing. If the manager has even half the clue that Stockwood & Andrew have then we ought to be excited.

It would be selling your soul to the Devil but any club serious about going up quickly should be trying to get Steve Evans in.

Stockport County.
Jason Stockwood is always going round Cheshire (presumably lives this way) bragging about how he runs Grimsby and how he calls all the shots. No surprise to see the power play implemented.

If it doesn't go right, there could be and probably should be mutiny at Blundell Park. Egotists like him rarely end well.

Hurst did a good job there and was a good man.

Johnnie Jackson will be sacked at Wimbledon soon if we don't start winning a few game's in November. He was extremely lucky to keep his job last season. Supporter's won't put up with another season sliding down the table.

All these clubs are clearly in a farting about contest, with the winner yet to be decided.

One releases a statement, then shortly after the next one does which says nothing else other than they are still farting around and clearly don't have a clue who they are after.

There's only MK Dons who actually had their shit together and knew who they wanted and got him in within days.

A real embarrassment that clubs with no vision sack their manager merely to appease fans then have no clear succession plan.

Some of these executives behind the decisions couldn't run a bath. Especially that Ryan Sparks at Bradford.

Think the candidates are doing their postering too. It's sacking season, jobs popping up in League One too. The last thing you want to do is end up at Gillingham and thinking "could I have ended up at a decent club?"

The Cowley's will be slimey bastards. "Nice guys" and all this. They'll be telling people like Grimsby they're interested whilst secretly hoping Millwall or someone get on the phone.

So McDonald has told Sparks to shove it and thrown the whole thing up in the air because Sparks was hoping McDonald would want it and save him making a decision.

What a clusterfuck.

I’m not sure that’s the case.

McDonald has said from the very off that he wishes to continue playing. The noises regards McDonald wanting the job always came from from social media - namely twitter.

It’s evident McDonald now wishes to return to playing, as per the statement and Trueman will take charge of the one game this weekend.

Not sure what the problem is. But as always, there’s a problem because Sparks and Rupp can never do anything right.
