Doesn't look like as they were play off hopefuls before a run of 8 games without a win brought an end to his reign at Scunny...

He won Player of the Year in 1994 though with Scunny and Manager of the Month, that's about it.

Grezza must have serious drive, he's never out of the game for more than a month.

Seems a shite manager though.

As for David Healy, I hope he fails miserably and gets some sort of colon disease.
So he’s shagged your mrs then?

Stop sitting on the fence, do you want him to do well or not?

Thought he was a legend round your parts?
If by legend, you mean probably the most disliked PNE player since Tony Ellis, then yeah.

Graham Westley wanted to re-sign him and the club stopped him due to fan response.

Alexander didn't get us promoted but he did pretty well, albeit with the biggest budget in club history.

We finished 7th, 3rd and 5th under him. 3rd was the only season he fully managed us though.

Alexander's issue is he constantly outsmarted himself and cared too much about the opposition.

Loved Tony Ennis

So did Andy Preece, and if Preecey told me the sky was green I'd believe him

Why what did he do?
Missed from 5 yards away at Leeds before he was about to sign for them, then laughed in an interview saying he couldn't have scored against his new employers. Basically just acted like a complete piece of shit in the entire build up to that transfer.

That miss happened right in front of me and I said at the time he'd done it on purpose, didn't even hide it, he should have been done for match fixing.

Surely Grimsby can't or more to the point shouldn't be appointing someone like this?

Have the club investigated this?

Long investigation if so, it happened in 2004.

Alexander does have a few promotions on his CV to be fair. Wasn't the Fleetwood team basically Mickey Mellon's squad (who had been harshly sacked when they were fourth) though?

Also that Salford team were rubbish considering the team they had, a decent manager with that team would have walked the league. Instead they scraped through the play offs in a poor conference season. We finished fourth that season and we were rubbish for most of the year- Our top scorer was CB Shaun Pearson who had 6 goals.

Yep Mellon fell out with the recently imprisoned fraudster Andrew Pilley and was sacked. Alexander then got binned when he couldn't take Fleetwood to the next level.

That Salford team was obscene and I swear they were paying bigger wages back then than they do now. They signed Adam Rooney from Aberdeen for a club record fee and he was binned off the week before the pandemic hit.

I've never rated him as a manager. Just seems very dour and tactically naive. Watching his MK Dons side at our place earlier this season proved that. They were hopeless.

Healy has just given an extremely conservative answer on his future by saying ‘his concentration is on Linfield tonight and at the weekend’, whilst also saying he’d like to manage at a higher level. Looks like there’s some legs in the rumours

If I was Northern Irish, and a Linfield supporter I don't think I'd leave a comfortable job managing the club I support in Europe and winning trophies every year, to go to Grimsby.

I know it's not the biggest league in the world but still..... Grimsby?

One promotion with us puts him in the frame for jobs higher up and I doubt any L1 team would take him based on his experience in Northern Ireland. It’s a bigger risk for us than it is for him IMO

Yeah I suppose so. I'm a singularly unambitious person so I'd just stick in the comfy job myself, but if he has ambitions to manage higher up in England he needs to build a profile over here.

Also, maybe he really likes Jason Stockwoods Guardian pieces?
