Not surprising to see Dunne canned. Whilst Tuesday's limp performance was clearly too much for the owners, to see them struggle for so long and not do anything was surprising. Wonder who steps in and takes on the role now I wonder? Do they go high profile like Macclesfield?

They seem to go for figures who weren't exactly a great success at their previous clubs. Money, Derry, Dunne. Surely they've got to think outside the box and do something different this time?

Joe Dunne has gone.

This empty weekend was the opportunity that I didn't think the board/Daniels had the nous or bottle to act on. Great bloke but we move on.

Recruitment already underway - could it be Paul Hurst? Plenty of other options. I'm surprised how un-stirred I am by it.

Off to re-visit the Quag End for Iron v Bluebirds this afternoon. Disappointed to be missing Robbie Nightingale's new signings at City.

Is this just distraction therapy?

Sad to see Joe Dunne go but Tuesday really was the last straw. I was one of the 84 away fans and it was such a insipid display that quite a few of the hardcore away fans were questioning going until he'd gone.

Much as I'd like to see a young (ish) coach given a go, whoever comes in is going to have to handle and motivate a bunch of relatively experienced players, a number of whom have been taking the piss in terms of effort and focus. He's also going to have to manage the situation with a backroom/boardroom set up that is at the root of this problem.

Nope. It's exactly what we'll do.

Nah I think they should stick with it and give it Mark Yates.

He had to go, he should have gone with Derry, and should have gone a couple of months ago, but at least we got there in the end. Problem is our lunatic of a chairman, or whatever the fuck his bullshit job title is, has insinuated everything else will be staying as is and it'll be another yes man as head coach, as such, I can't see much changing in the long run and I still expect us to get relegated. Hopefully something changes when they start interviewing, but as Daniels is a stubborn prick, I doubt it.

Funnily enough, John Akinde gets a fair bit of stick from some of our fans for being 'lazy'. Oddly, Matt Rhead doesn't get that levelled at him, despite arguably moving around no more than JA. I reckon there's a fair bit of racism there.

One of my pet hates. Our only creative player this season has been Enzio and he’s regularly labelled as lazy by some of our stupider fans. The same with Craig Westcarr in our last championship season, when he was one of our best players that year. I can’t remember any white players being called lazy.

Ron Atkinson was sacked for making those comments but to me it’s still not very covert racism. That doesn’t mean however that Sol Campbell isn’t an arsehole.

Couldn’t agree more about Westcarr. One of the harshest ones for me was Richard Liburd.

But we’ve white lazy players who the fans have been called lazy in the stands

Gary Bowyer would be a stellar appointment.

Hurst or Nolan would probably be acceptable.

Wife Beater and Tangerine Man are surely not genuinely in the frame?

All 5 look too expensive and/or opinionated for our backroom/boardroom to be comfortable with them - just what we need.

Surely we're not going to appoint someone with L1/L2 experience? What's the betting we're looking in the Conference?

At 4/1 as the shortest odds, the bookies haven’t got a clue, which isn’t surprising because I bet the club haven’t got a clue themselves.

Feel like Nolan would be a good fit for Cambridge, based on nothing else but a hunch i have.

It's a common accusation levelled against Akinde and I think it is due to a lot of ingrained unconscious bias. It also chimes in with a lot of footie fans' opinions that a player has to be seen running around a lot directionlessly to be seen as a hard worker no matter how pointless that running around is. Liam Hatch was a prime exponent of that for us.
Exactly. We had Kevin Gall years ago who some loved because of his work-rate, despite the fact he ran around like a headless chicken and was often out of position as a result. Nothing wrong with work rate if it's channeled in the right way, the same as it's ok to have a, perceived, slightly lower work rate if you deliver in the moments that count.

On Akinde, though, people are just blinded by what they want to see or expect rather than what he is and does. Because his way of playing is a little more laid back, I think he gets more stick than he deserves. He's been involved in the most amount of goals in the squad so far this season and those get tipped off about certain stats (a blogger being one), say his key stats are very high.

Take this weekend, for example. The only difference between what he did when he came on, on Saturday and previous games this season was that he scored a tap-in. His all round play has been fairly consistent this season.

On Campbell, he has the air of Sutton about him when he was here. A bit aloof and an 'you're lucky to have me here' kinda attitude (although I will caveat that my saying Sutton was actually quite pleasant one-on-one).

Fair play to Campbell for taking it because he always said he'll take whatever he's offered and given Macclesfield's position, they probably weren't left with a decent manager pool, although it sounded like Askey might have been tempted to get back into it.

If it doesn't work out, Campbell will just point to the position Macclesfield are in and if it works, he paints himself as a hero.

Ardley to Notts surprised me a little, for no other reason, and I might be wrong, that I thought he was a more direct manager, which is what they moved from last season and don't appear to have the squad for now?

Wouldn’t take much to turn us back into a ‘direct’ team to be fair. Agricultural midfielder or two and a big lad up top. I’m sure Ardley knows a few.

I've changed my mind. While I still think the racism card is frequently abused ie an excuse for failure, it's a well known fact that white managers like Gerrard, Giggs and countless others do not start their managerial career down at some struggling L2/NL side as it really should be in a fair world, but nearly always at a top side.

Rudeboy, Enzo and others - you were right.

It's always good to see someone consider other posters' arguments and conclude that they have learnt something. Kudos to you Vanni!

I really believe sacking Dunne will prove to be a disastrous decision come April, and that's why I haven't said anything on the matter 'til now. All the club had to do was back him in January by bringing in a striker and a CH at the very least, and then get rid of him in the summer if they wanted to.

I just knew - and so did many other Utd fans tbf - he was on his way out after that shocking performance at another fellow poor side, Crewe, so I started thinking about what the consequences were going to be if Joe was fired. The first thing that I was expecting to hear from the club was that they were happy with the squad and that the players were simply under performing, and lo and behold, that's exactly what they said in the statement. What that means is pretty clear to anybody with half a brain - there will be no new signings in January. Or at most, a couple of cheap unproven kids at this level.

I'm trying hard not to say anything about the unfairness of it all, although it really is with Joe getting the sack while others are still here. I've said it before and I'll say it again; it doesn't matter if it's Pep or Bonner in the dug out, it's a futile exercise when you've got no decent goalscorer out there on the pitch. And when your no. 1 keeper is a 40 year old tree stump and your two CB's (Taft and Taylor) are lower L2/National League level at best.

It is indeed rudebwoyben, although it did follow a little hissy fit in between. But the truth won out in the end :2thumb::2thumb:

I think the main reason why Lampard and Gerrard got jobs at big clubs and Campbell didn’t had nothing to do with racism, and more to do with the fact that Lampard and Gerrard actually applied for those jobs, as opposed to Campbell who sits on his throne at home moaning about it whilst never actually bothering to apply, the egotistical deluded fucking ball bag.

I know why Sol Campbell didn't apply for the Glasgow Rangers or Derby County jobs when vacant because he would have next to no chance of getting them, that’s why.
