If we replace Williams with someone as good as Williams , we will be absolutely fine. I'd snap your hands off for as good as Luke.

But as we know there are no guarantees and more misses than hits when it comes to appointing managers.

Doubt our next one will get poached from a club in a higher division and us financially compensated like the last two.
Love all the compensation talk it was only a few days ago notts were financially sound no need to sell etc its a funny old game

Depends what you class a failure.

They kept Huddersfield up when they slashed their budget and extrapolated over a full season would've seen them finish mid-table in the Championship, which isn't a bad turnaround considering where the Club was when they took over.

A 45% win ratio at Portsmouth isn't to be sniffed at either!
Wouldn’t have been popular, but I’d have loved them to have come to Notts. People would have said they don’t play our ‘way’, but I’m sure they would have been pragmatic given the players we have. Would certainly have sorted our defence out, and done the hard yards in the community.

Great appointment for Colchester.

Is it though? What have they done since Lincoln?

Williams is being poached because of his style of football and links to Swansea rather than his level of success. He's one more promotion away from that. I think it's the only Championship club that would come in for him, so it's a bit annoying they're the ones looking - their fans are basically in mutiny that they moved away from their 'club style' in Michael Duff (who, if we're honest, had achieved more at a higher level than LW when they poached him). Williams is an easy win for their board.

Sometimes it happens when a club that has a link to your manager comes in, and you can't really begrudge them leaving ( not that anyone would deny LW his chance to manage in the Championship I'm sure).

Happened with us and Dean Keates when his boyhood club Walsall came knocking, derailing a very decent season for us. Thankfully he was terrible for them and got them relegated, which softened the blow somewhat.

Great appointment for Colchester.

Be Interesting to see who Notts go for and if Williams fancies taking Langstaff to South Wales

It does look a good appoint!ent for Colchester. Not sure with the players we have that Cowley would work out for us it would mean a complete change of path.
When we've gone from Ardley to Burchnall to Williams we've kept to a pattern. Just with varying degrees of success but it's been tweaking not total change at any point.
As Jacob said yesterday, Parkinson at Altrincham might be a consideration. I think we'll be keeping the head coach thing with separate recruitment team so it partly depends on who is happy to get the brick bats when players underperform having had little say on who comes in.

Steve Morison has become clear favourite for our gig. Who knows if anything in that.

Hmmmm pay a manager off cos you want to sack them or get paid money because a bigger club in a higher division has handpicked and headhunted your head coach/manager.

Its clear you don't know how it works chap . Club approaches another club wants their talented manager, will pay large sum of money to have them. We don't need to get rid , he wants to go.

Great move for him.

Done amazingly well at one of my local sides Hornchurch this season, took a massive risk going from Cardiff to that level but they're on the verge of the Conference South as it stands.............

Feels like now or never for both the Cowleys and Colchester. If this appointment doesn't work out for Colchester, you honestly don't know where else they'll turn for a replacement that can get them moving in the right direction.

And for the Cowleys, they've mostly lived off their Lincoln reputation for 4 years now. Ok, maybe there are migating circumstances as to why they failed at Huddersfield and Portsmouth. But to say they've only been a success at 1 club is fair as well. If they can't get Colchester turned around, then they might well be done in the EFL.

My big concern if I was a Colchester fan is, they have been skewing younger and younger over the last few years. I don't get the sense the Cowley's are big on youth, so how do they handle the likes of Chilvers, Tovide, Fevrier, Ihionvein etc?

The bookies will be devastated, they used to have Artell and the Cowleys linked to every L2 job under the sun. Now they'll have to find a new common name to put in there.

It’s already been posted on here, but I’ll reiterate that the Cowley’s did not fail at Huddersfield, in fact they turned their season around and kept them up.

On purely footballing reasons, Bradford City would have been a better fit for the Cowleys. However, can understand the geographical factors at play and a good appointment for Colchester.

So Colchester appoint the Cowleys and Salford get Karl Robinson. In the meantime we've decided Troy Deeney is the best man for the job. Tremendous.

We'll be down by Easter again at this rate.

Karl Robinson set to be appointed Salford City boss.
That won't end well.

They've tried every type of manager going, proven ones, up and coming ones and a load of their mates from Man United, nothing has worked.

Watched the first episode of the new series of their show and they really don't have a clue what they are doing. Butt, Scholes and Giggs couldn't give one shite about the place and now Neville has stepped back it's even worse there. That Wood could put a glass eye to sleep, no wonder they are down the bottom. They still have all those amateurs involved in running the day to day as well.

Hopefully they admit it is all quite embarrassing and let them drop back down to Sunday League where they belong.

Well, it's not is it.

Concord Rangers (3 promotions in 6 seasons) and Braintree (got them 3rd and in the PO's in NL as one of the few proper PT sides in that league at the time) were both successes - arguably the latter was a better achievement than the former.

Huddersfield I've covered in a previous post and you could perhaps say Portsmouth wasn't a success per se despite a 45% win ratio because Pompey fans probably expected the PO's, but I don't think they flopped or had no success anywhere they've been at all. People remember their spell here for obvious reasons, and wrongly expect them to do the same wherever they go, but they've achieved plenty outside of the Lincoln appointment.

It's the new Artell and Crewe fans this one.

They are clearly good managers but this job definitely needs to go well for them otherwise I'm not sure where they go. There's obviously a good budget there else they wouldn't have gone, having been out of work for a year.

You'd expect playoffs next season is the minimum expectation. The money clubs of Mansfield and Stockport will be gone, so it should be an easier division.

That’s another thing going for Clough sharing the automatics with Stockport and Wrexham, two clubs that are living on an another planet financially.

True, that we're level with Wrexham with the respective budgets both have is a remarkable achievement for us, and something Clough should be happy with, no-one seems to like him and he's quite unfashionable - Mansfield and Clough are like a bird in a hand.

Their style of play and constant whinging at officials is a pretty big turn off to a lot of clubs though tbf.

Definitely, they match Steve Evans and Raynor on the touchline and that’s saying somert.

Danny Cowley is a sensitive little soul off the pitch funnily enough.

We don't have any problems appointing managers, we do it every few months.
Roughly as often as a hippy changes their underpants...perhaps I have discovered the pattern, Dale buys some new under-crackers and goes looking for a new manager at the same time!

Good to see that Sir Dave Brailsford and Ineos have already started making key decisions at Man Utd, starting with their spin off club.

They are bad but nobody matches those two on the touchline that I've ever witnessed.

Evans in particular is an absolute disgrace on the side of the pitch until he's in makeup in front of the media then is personality performs a complete 180 and he's charming and polite.
