I wonder what happens in these situations if compo can’t be agreed. Does it go to a tribunal or something? If the manager/coach wants to go, presumably the poaching club have the upper hand?

Depends if the club losing the manager gave permission to the poaching club to speak to him also. i

You quoted legendary managers who operated at the very top of world football.

Not really relatable to managers in the 4th tier
You dont manage nearly 1500 games if your not relatively successful ,as for legendary managers not being relevant, its the same game the levels may vary but the basic rules apply whatever the level if you cant organize a defence your not going to win much

Comparing Clough and Williams is one of the more pointless things I've seen on this forum

Predicting our next manager is basically a who's who of upcoming coaches that may have 0 management experience or from some obscure league.. wouldn't be surprised to see us roll the dice with someone like Damien Duff

Who are you talking about? Nearly 1500 games?

Of course you want a strong spine to your side, of course you want an organised and effective defence who doesn't concede many goals. You also want to score goals. Goals win games. Always have, always will.

Pointless indeed, just services petty point scoring amongst fanbases.

My opinion is he's been great for Notts. The fact is he's been successful for Notts on many fronts.

In football that's a rare combo.

I’m not entirely sure that’s completely fair considering the circumstances Clough had at Sheff and more importantly Derby maybe you are not aware, but obviously at the same time Cloughhas spent most of his career in L1/2 because that’s what he’s proven to be good at.

If you ask Clough what his greatest managerial achievement is he’ll probably say keeping Burton up in the championship.

If Williams can learn on the job how to coach and set up a team better in defence he’ll be very successful, hope it goes well for him to be honest.
Likely I'm not fully aware of everything that went on, but as I'd say he's got a good track record over a longer period of time than Williams I am just assuming it's the evidence of his time at that level that's working against him. Williams is the shiny new toy that might end up being brilliant, it's easier to talk yourself into that.

Still find it weird they’re called the Cowley brothers but there’s only one where I know his first name and what he looks like.

Or sounds like! It was very rare we heard from him here in public.

It’ll be interesting (for us U’s fans anyway) to see if Mr Cowling backs Mr Cowley this window. Surely his brief will be to just stay in the division…
Can’t see these chaps being anything other than in full control of the squad and recruitment unlike the appearance of the last 6/7 appointments.
Maybe change from the last 4/5 years won’t happen overnight (and by that I mean 3/4 months) but I feel we should stick with Cowley whatever the outcome of this season…..I personally feel pretty optimistic! (It’s the hope that kills…I know. My emotional investment has been rejuvenated)!

A surprisingly, and out of character, decent appointment for Colchester.

Location wise it's perfect for them both at the minute as well. Gut feeling is that if it goes well there, they'll probably be prepared to move around again when the kids are older.

Is Akinde still there? They backed him to the hilt when he was unfairly coming in for criticism here (by those who thought he was a 20 goal striker rather than concentrating on the things he was doing right for the team).

Bit a coup that but they've failed in last 2 jobs haven't they? Maybe this is their level though.

The other one lives in the attic and eats buckets of fish heads, but they come as a package.

Depends what you class a failure.

They kept Huddersfield up when they slashed their budget and extrapolated over a full season would've seen them finish mid-table in the Championship, which isn't a bad turnaround considering where the Club was when they took over.

A 45% win ratio at Portsmouth isn't to be sniffed at either!

Yes and the ones scored against you means losing games as well always have and always will :bye:

I really hope it goes well for the Cowleys at Colchester. One thing they will do is make sure the football club is as engaged with the community as it possibly can be and they'll bring a new positivity to a bad situation.

Ultimately they failed here for numerous reasons. Our form fell off a cliff last season after a good start and they couldn't turn it around. Ultimately, the job at Pompey might have been too big for them in the end but I get the feeling they'll fit in really well at Colchester.

What Notts need as manager to keep their fans onside is an ex legend Notts player, but also someone proven to be a top top manager at every level.
I think I know just the man for them:

Here begins the slow demise i predicted :fish:

Ahhhh so that's why you've been so quiet on the matter. Those Meadow Lane attendances you predicted to plummet are still holding up thanks to Strange Luke and his entertaining winning football :ohy:

Hopefully the owners will come up with someone nearly as good next...

Talking of strange ,the next one has to be better or else you will stagnate ,now there is the most inappropriate use of the word stag as youve ever heard ,improve or stagnate simples :fish:

If we replace Williams with someone as good as Williams , we will be absolutely fine. I'd snap your hands off for as good as Luke.

But as we know there are no guarantees and more misses than hits when it comes to appointing managers.

Doubt our next one will get poached from a club in a higher division and us financially compensated like the last two.
