As soon as I saw Williams had left, I immediately thought of Brian Barry-Murphy if they want to continue with kamikaze defending.

The compensation Man City want for him is basically completely prohibitive I think, even for top League One and Championship clubs let alone us.

Maynard now into a clear odds on favourite. Possibly meaningless - our last two appointments weren’t even in the odds when announced - but would be a risk I’m happy for us to take.

Looking at the out of work list none of them look like bankers to take us forwards, certainly that would drop down to L2. As for poaching someone, only Phil Parkinson at Altrincham other than Maynard seems to fit the club's criteria. Tommy Widdrington did well at Kings Lynn and now Aldershot but is definitely a gamble.

I am looking forward to the club appointing a relatively unknown backroom staff member or unfancied manager from a non league club or overseas.

It's a whole new world at Meadow Lane these days.

Des Buckingham, who was also part of the Man City Group albeit managing their sister clubs rather than youth sides, had a release clause to Oxford of £750k apparently.

Yep, it doesn't feel like there's an outstanding candidate that ticks every box unless there's someone that hasn't been mentioned at all. If O'Brien gets a couple of positive results/performances early on then it wouldn't be a huge shock if we wait until the summer.

Maynard plays good football but going from a tiny no pressure setup at Wealdstone to Notts and all the demands it brings is one hell of a jump.

It's similar to Williamson though I guess.

The six hour long press conferences alone would be difficult to manage for him.

Williamson just has much better PR as a former Prem player - Wealdstone actually finished above them last season despite having a much smaller budget and being part time.

Our press conferences are great as well, driven by the media team and been the same for years. Surprisingly it's far more interesting getting 20 mins of chat with the manager and a player each week than two minutes of nothing!

So Notts County fans, let me throw a name at you.

Gary Bowyer. Keen to get back into management. Has been applying for jobs.

Obviously has connections with Forest, both as a reserve player and through his dad, but I wouldn't have thought that would be much of a strike against.

He doesn't fit with your new kid out of nowhere profile that some of you think likely, but would be a solid pair of hands.

No thanks, not for me.

Too boring, dull voice. Chalka and cheese compared to the charismatic and inspirational Strange Luke

It's not an exciting prospect but I think the way we're structured, where all he has to do is coach and manage the actual ninety minutes rather than have it all on his shoulders as many managers do he'd probably get us into the playoffs.
As we change managers / head coaches pretty much every season despite our new found stability, getting into the play offs this year would be a result and at the end of the day he has a stronger CV than either Williams or Burchnall when they came.
It's a shame Williams didn't go six weeks ago as Mike Williamson still looks like the man we need.

I went to the same school as him, albeit a couple of years below. We crashed into each other while sliding on the icy cricket pitch. He was a big lad so I came off worst.

That is my best Gary Bowyer story.

Unverified rumour Flynn has been sacked.

Hope to God it’s true!

Morten Dahm Kjaergaard now 1/3 favourite. I’m not convinced he’s a real person though.

Not sure running your players like this is going to help in a relegation battle

Agree wholeheartedly.
BUT I do wonder if Deeney is using same tactic as Sir Alex who used to call out his players after a poor result, especially those who he knew had broad backs such as Ryan Giggs.
It seemed to work for Sir A and put his team back to winning ways.
Of course there is / was a 92 club difference.

Sir Alex hardly ever called his players out publically.

You honestly wonder why Deeney took the job in the first place. What was he thinking, given he knew how rotten the squad was in his opinion. You always feel like a new manager has to start positive and work their way to negativity if there initial messages don't work. Start with phrases about trying to improve them, coach them etc, then after 5-6 games if they aren't responding, change your tone. To go this hard only a few games into the job looks misguided if you don't get a reaction.

He does like to be honest but maybe too much and don’t think Troy quite knows how much he is ranting when getting going !

Players these don’t tend to react well to public criticism and he was a squad player himself weeks ago .
