Surely looking at the goals scored column Gills fans are happy with that news.

Yeah, but it's still a bolt from the blue. A fair few fans unhappy that he's made little to no improvement in results or goals scored since taking over, but I think the majority were prepared to give him the summer to shape the squad more to his liking. I don't want us to become one of those clubs that bins their manager every six months, but here we are.

I think we started the trend really.

;)

Seems to be a common theme now.

Even we didn't have 3 a season till about 2021 though.]

One actually stayed 18 months!

Trouble is fans have instant reaction game after game so the powers that be at the cubs see that and think they aren't happy and need change.

I'm a bit surprised he's gone despite everything, but if you're going to get rid of a manager then just after the final game of the season is probably the best time to do it.

After all the season has been a waste of time, to finish 12th is embarrassing all things considered and the only thing that will satisfy the fanbase next season is a concerted top 3 challenge. More than capable of doing that, just need to double our goals output somehow. Clemence was a nice guy but no-one really felt like he was capable of making that big a change here with his methods.

Don’t even think about approaching Lindsey again….we went on our worst run of the season when that whole saga went on previously

I kept refreshing until the odds for next Gills manager appeared.

Alternatively, could Gillingham please go for it as early as possible, something like this week would work. I promise I have no agenda...

You were getting decent albeit boring results under Harris. I really don't get why he got the push. If he'd stayed I reckon you'd have made the playoffs

I think there were some issues behind the scenes with the Harris dismissal.

Really surprised by this sacking though, especially if there isn’t someone already lined up to take over.

Gillingham made a complete balls up with their managerial search last time.

Took forever to replace Harris and it ended up being a completely underwhelming downgrade in Clemence.

I wouldn’t be so sure.
We had 2 points from his last seven games.
Hardly promotion form.

He is inevitably being linked due Crawley’s great season and his links with The Gills and the area.
Two things make it unlikely for me though.
Firstly, I don’t think the club will want to wait until after the play offs to start the search.
Secondly, after missing out last time would he even want to go thorough the whole process again?
I would be happy with Lindsay but think it is very unlikely.

I think it’s highly likely personally unless Crawley go up and fancies a crack at League One. Pretty much a miracle what he’s achieved there all things considered.

Extrapolating our form over the latter part of the season would have us fighting against relegation next time around.

I have an odd feeling Lindsay may move from Crawley and do a Kewell at Notts County.

The sacking makes sense to me, god that team needs some inspiration, fair play to Gills fans continuing to watch that.

Hessenthaler must be due another stint in the hot seat? Still at the club isn't he.

Yeah, Chief Scout basically, no chance he’ll get the manager role again

I don't think it will be a 'process'. If they want him they wait for the playoffs to finish and write a huge cheque. I think they sacked Clem because he obviously wanted to start planning for next season and discuss the retained list. Even if it's not SL, I think they decided on their person already.

Ged Brennan gone at Morecambe. With their cash flow issues and the fact that any new guy is coming in with virtually no planning time, no support structure and an as yet undefined budget, it's shaping up to be a very tricky summer for the Shrimps.

The gillingham one I can understand they weee expected to do well and have failed miserably.

That Morecambe one, losing a manager for him to become Accrington assistant…..that one is a kicker……Adams back maybe

I know that bookies’ odds don’t necessarily mean diddly but it looks like Gareth Ainsworth is the new favourite for the Gills job.

Depending on how big an overhaul your squad needs for players in his mould (relentless grafters; fancy dans not welcome) then I think that could be a good appointment.

At his best he is a great man motivator and would have you fighting for every point. Reliance on the dark arts is not always enjoyable to watch, however.

Our most successful seasons in the last 30 odd years have come with managers and teams not frightened to be bastards every now and then, as long as we win games I don't think that's a problem at all.

Main names in the frame at the moment appear to be Ainsworth, Mark Warburton and Mark Bonner.

He's not exactly set anywhere on fire after leaving Wycombe though has he.
