Mark Yates is a brilliant manager and terribly unlucky to lose his job here especially considering the high standard of player he signed in the summer. I'd snap him up now if I were you.
The big missed opportunity for us has to be that just a few short weeks ago, the most intelligent man in football was available and willing to manage someone in League Two.

Exactly, thankfully we’ve got a system sophisticated enough to tell exactly how many people came in, can’t imagine it being particularly challenging to do.

It’s why When we were in the conference (shudders) we had a season ticket deal like port vale where our crowds were less than the STs we’d sold.
Reminds me of when we played a home game at Preston a couple years back during the floods. They don't have an electronic ticketing system at all; the guy in the ticket office asked me if he could look at my season ticket just because he was so amazed by the concept of a single plastic card rather than a book. I considered showing him my smartphone but that would have just blown his mind, they obviously don't have such technologikal marvels yet in deepest darkest Lancashire.

Don’t really there’s a right or wrong way to do it, just seems odd a club would suggest someone was there when they weren’t

Cos they've paid for a ticket.

Yeah but you don’t enter the ground, therefore aren’t there. I’ve a ST and not counted when I can’t make Tuesday night games, it’s pretty basic really. Maybe clubs that count those that don’t p turn up just have really shit systems.

Tickets sold and the actual attendance will never be the same.

I’m actually going to Preston tomorrow as never been and another ground to tick off. I would have thought most clubs have season tickets which are cards now, though macc still had season ticket books earlier this season, which was kinda cute in a 90’s kinda way

I’ve heard MiniDiscs are going to be huge. It’s the future.

I imagine it’s just clubs trying to make something/the situation look better than it really is. Won’t fool the finance folk behind the scenes

We went back to season ticket books a few years ago reportedly due to people passing their cards back through gaps, and also potentially people on the turnstiles helping them do it.

The cards would only work once though? Surely.

What kind of system would allow it to work more than once? Lol.

In response to your persistent questioning...our cards never did anything, they were just credit-card sized things you showed to get in. No fancy technology at Macc.

#obsessed

When I was a guest of the club at Moss Rose some years back, the welcome and hospitality offered was nothing short of superb. Didn’t need any sort of ticket, card, anything that day.

So Gavin Skelton has just resigned as Workington manager, a week after leaving as head of our Youth for the job.

Surely not?! Unless he’s coming in as Assistant to someone...

how bizzare. Think he goes back a bit with Holdsworth, to Gretna. Darent say it, but does this mean Holdsworth's been offered it and wants Skelton as his assistant?

If that’s the case then your automatic promotion possibility is well and truly down the pan

Doubt he'll be manager since we have people already on the books with his level of experience. Would make no sense to overlook the likes of Murray, Wright, Holdsworth and Edmo and pay compensation to bring Skelton back instead, but it definitely looks like he's on his way back here. Him and Holdsworth go back to their Gretna days so it's possible he's coming back to assist Wright, or someone else. Maybe he just didn't get on with Sheridan and now Sheridan's gone, he wants to come back.

Holdsworth has taken a press conference now to discuss the situation. There's been no indication that he has any interest in taking the job himself. I still think he speaks quite well, answers questions in a straightforward and transparent manner but that may just be because before his arrival these sort of conferences were headed by other directors who would answer everything vaguely or say they couldn't discuss things.

The process of finding a new manager unfortunately is what it is. Rush and you risk making a poor appointment, delay and you miss opportunities with the transfer window. I'm happy then to hear the focus right now is on supporting Wright in the caretaker role and hopefully also containing to pursue transfer targets. Anthony Gerrard has signed a new contract so that's good and shows things haven't been thrown into disarray by Sheridan's departure. Gavin Skelton is now back at Carlisle but I think has just gone into his old job.

One final thing, to clear up a debate we've been having on here. Holds worth has confirmed that Chesterfield will be paying us compensation.
