Rumour on twitter tonight is that if we lose tonight Aspin is off and Askey is in.

thats quite believable. Hoping we get a point or even 3, but if we lose, and he goes, its also a result.

Would explain Askey being there Saturday and Aspins tone after the game. Assume he might of been gone at the weekend had Smurf not been ran over.

Aspin to Askey is a hell of a shift in playing style at an important point of the season!

Aspin set to depart Vale tomorrow...

Meeting in the morning and future will be clear afterwards... rumours he has said farewell to the players after the game.

Gutted it hasn’t worked out, a Vale legend and part of one of the greatest Vale sides when we were a solid 2nd tier side and even had a sniff of the play offs in the 90s. That should not be forgotten and it’s a hard situation. Sadly he isn’t the first of that era with Dean Glover and to a lesser degree Martin Foyle tainted by managing us!

It’s poor timing unless a replacement is ready to move straight in and has been working on deals to quickly get through ahead of the window shutting. Talk is John Askey although both himself and Harry Kewell were at Vale on Saturday. Aspin should of gone after the Oldham debacle for me or at least the Colchester one!

And out goes Aspin.

What a car crash of a situation, no pun against Smurf intended. Why leave it this late? So the new man has to try and get the best out of what in my opinion is a dreadful squad full of average/poor players and virtually no goalscorers? No chance to make any personnel changes, basically come up and hope the new guys coaching and change of tactics can spark a revival. Clown show.

I don't think the Vale will go down as it only takes one run of results to pull clear of the bottom 2. But god whoever takes over has a tough job on his hands.

Aspin has resigned not been fired.

Squad isn't that bad, lacks another scorer but is more than capable of mid table... in fact it was very mid table until a bad 7-8 week spell but you can't be that negative at home and expect wins on your own turf.

Our squad is more than good enough to survive. They just need playing in the right positions and set up to win at home.

While I do think Aspin was clearly out of his depth got to agree with the general point that with barely a day left in the transfer window the timing of this is just peak Vale in its ridiculousness. Should have gone at the start of the month, unless recruiting from within which I hope is not the case any new manager hasn't got a chance to evaluate the squad at all. Either way good luck to Aspin, while his football was an eyesore he was far from the biggest problem at the club, that still sadly remains.

As for Askey if its him he should clearly be given a chance but his record outside of the Conference isn't the greatest and that would concern me. Would rather one of Paul Hurst or Darrell Clarke but there is no way they would subject themselves to working with Smurthwaite.

Interesting that Aspin actually resigned Monday but oversaw things for the Newport game. Stuff in his personal life seems to have had an effect and probably helps understand a few things.

Defender set to come in on loan which he has arranged but the striker deal now unlikely so the hope is Askey was set up on Monday and has been working in the background on deals!

Its a tough day, no one wanting him to fail as a club legend and a nice guy on top of that who's always been very honest. He kept us up and in fairness has signed some decent rough diamonds like Hannant, Conlon, Manny etc so plenty to work with if we can get attackers in.

I notice in no statement Vale have said who is over seeing things so suggests that if it is Askey or whoever its already sorted with the players off today having played last night.

A farewell to.. playing 5 centre backs, no distinctive pattern of play, ridiculous substitutions and negative tactics.

Sounds like it will be Askey and if he at least comes in and gets us to actually attempt to score some goals and attack the opposition then that will do for me.

He is right on one thing though. Aspin should have gone after the Oldham game.
Exactly, just a sanctimonious post from a team who have won a few and suddenly Artell is god.
Poor and average we may be and we don't portray ourselves as anything other.
We are a clown show and car crash, but transparency isn't an issue with our club so i'm happy on that score

Nolan is going to Vale, apparently. Be interesting to see if they get good Nolan or the version who assembled our current absolute shower.

Was interviewed apparently but not expected to be Nolan who gets the role.

Few names bandied about, seems Askey is the cheap and cheerful option, a route Vale love.
Kewell was at the game, please if there is a god NO NO NO.

Nolan i'm not sure what went wrong, drinking rumours?

My choice and there isn't a cat in hells chance would be Clarke from Bristol Rovers.

If it was Nolan i'm not averse to that.

Don't fancy Nolan myself... hootball and Notts were meh last season to watch. Without a Jorge Grant it would be Aspin Mark II negative hoofball to a tall targetman (Pope instead of Stead).

Some fans want us to spend and get Evans... jesus! Smurf and him would be nuclear!

I'd like Hurst myself if we want to achieve things.

Kewell no! - Full of excuses everytime we've played his sides!

The Steve Evans or vile fat bastard as he is known in my household is not a good fit for a cheapskate team like us.

Crawley..bankrolled into the Football league

Rotherham..promoted with ourselves, easily the highest budget in the league.

Posh. Big budget, arguably harsh sacking as they are 6th ? i don't know on that one.

He is a manager used to decent budgets , he isn't going to swap Harrods for Poundland.

Dream on.
