Seems universal that he is cack.
I get that Mansfield should of gone up with that team but last game it went to and the play offs are basically a lottery.

So my genuine question and not a piss take , why is the general opinion he is shit and the term fraud used ?
Never seemed popular anywhere !

precisely the reason you mentioned, having bottled several chances to get promoted on a large budget.

It is an odd one when you look in from the outside. 4th is an ok return really and no promotion is easy. But after 2 seasons in a row where from February onwards we were utter cack its hard to keep faith. Until that point we were doing ok but bizarre decisions at vital times seems to cost him in the big games that matter.

Brave move r.e. Dempster and it'll obviously come across as a cost cutting exercise but the Radford's have given it a right go these last two seasons and not got anywhere so you can perhaps understand the move - they've not got anywhere spending a fortune so what have they got to lose by promoting from within and not having to pay compensation?

And as Conker says, even a bit of a budget cut will still see them well placed budget wise to be in the mix this season.

Is Demspter bringing other staff in from the youth side? I mean, they've appointed a rookie but seemingly got rid of all the first team staff around him, including Abbott, who you'd imagine would've been his first port of call for advice (given his title). Unless he's earmarked a Lenny Lawrence type to come in and help. We did it when John Deehan came in.

We promoted from within in 2006/07 when KA left and replaced him with Schofield. He brought through lots of youth players, probably too many in the end. Because he'd come from the youth system, it was as if he had to justify his appointment be continually playing them and in the main, few were good enough so I hope that isn't a trap Mansfield fall into.

You could see by viewing Flitcroft’s post game interview on Sunday night that his time was up. Looks to me that it was a contractual clause in that he and his team would leave if he didn’t get promotion, so no contract termination monies to be paid.

Financially it would make sense for Lowe to go to Plymouth but think he would prefer to remain in the North West for his family.

Maybe our chance has come and gone.

Still, it could be worse - we could have had a promotion budget and got relegated

A contractual clause makes sense to me, and if true I am sure that will come one day

Personally I was neither for or nor against sacking Flitcroft, primarily because I was struggling to see who I actually wanted to replace him after Clarke went to Walsall. Dempster is certainly a risk, but after signing a serial promotion manager in Steve Evans and David Flitcroft who also achieved automatic promotion at this level it's pretty clear and cut why Radford fancies a different route.

We have invested heavily in training facilities and youth academy, and Dempster has led our Youth to titles and clearly done a brilliant job, It's obviously a different thing altogether being the first team manager but considering everything I understand the decision.

Could go either way, but that's football.

I could be completely wrong, but didn't Franchise promote from within the season they got relegated from League 1 and it was a disaster?

I think its quite a brave move from Mansfield.

Well, Oldham seemed to have done ok with promoting from within this year.

Much the same as when we appointed a Luke Williams to replace Cooper. Although the reasoning behind that was purely to progress players for future sale - league position wasn’t a consideration.

Ooooooo you nearly went a whole week . I don’t blame you tbh not after the past week or so . In all seriousness it’s a shame , could this be the end of a golden period in history of Mansfield Town FC ? Or just the beginning with Dempster in charge ?

How long before Dempster becomes Dumpster?

The thing that impresses about Dempster is that he seems to learn and take setbacks on the chin, which is encouraging.

It’s quite different from shitcroft who kept making the same mistakes again and again and again.

No idea yet, I think a press conference today might reveal more.

Greg Abbott is gone, along with Futcher, GK coach, performance analysis.

Hopefully his assistant will be somebody experienced.

Looking like it’ll be Ryan Lowe. Hopefully he can bring a couple of Bury’s best players with him.
