Just wait til we unveil ours.

We will pay him peanuts
We will slash his budget
We will fill his squad with French 5th tier players
And we will walk the league

(Disclaimer: one of them is likely to be wrong)

someone on our forum has just suggested that if Askey doesn't sign soon, then we should snap up Flitcoft before someone else does :ffs:

John Askey has signed a 3 year deal to become the permanent Vale manager. Happy with that and glad its finally sorted! Now we can build.

Laurent banide announced as new latics head coach. 1 year deal. Be interesting to see how it goes but this is the set up AL has wanted from the start, rather than a traditional manager set up.

Our fans ain't happy, but I'm willing to give him a chance. Pointless getting keith hill etc if AL can't work with them

Don't think it's that drastic. We will have the Edmundson money so we will have a budget, it's just how it's used. We do need alot of strengthening tho.
The foreign imports from last season generally did ok, and a couple were impressive, namely Nepo, but we have lost Edmondson, Clarke, Ivesen and Lang which were arguably our 4 best (+surridge).

Oldham fans with the optimism... takes me back to the barmy summer of 2016 when Bruno came in and these exotic players from Benfica, Monaco and former Sporting strikers rolled up.

Still trying to recover after our history’s worst spell.

It's not optimism. It's realism, recognizing we will struggle without strengthening. You can't really judge until we sign a few.

Nah, it's gonna properly hit the fan with the owner this season, you can tell.

Frankly I'm surprised we did as well as we did last season, I give credit to the man management skills of Frankie Bunn and Pete Wild for that, along with the captaining ability of Peter Clarke.

Why didn't Wild want the job ?
He was right in front of us at the 1-4 game in December, he's as mad as a box of frogs based on what i saw but had a decent record.
Was it personal reasons ?

Probably because the Chairman, by the sounds of it, seems to stick his neb in to team selections.

Our Chairman has this evening released a video message paying tribute to Justin Edinburgh, he also says that we will have a new manager appointed next week by Wednesday at the latest.

A very difficult decision, alot of people want Ross Embleton and/or Danny Webb to take it up - JE's two assistants. I don't think they're both ready for it right now, both two very good young coaches but not quite managers yet. However if they got the job, I'd be happy with it and back them.

There are few managers out of work that I'd take, some I wouldn't for various reasons.

Chris Powell and Keith Hill would be my first two choices, but I doubt Keith Hill would move South.

Derek Adams has a good track record overall, but I don't think we need someone with his personality right now at the club - Same goes for David Flitcroft.

Then you've got the likes of Kevin Nolan and Russell Slade whom we've already had - I wouldn't have either back.

The rest are all very much "Meh" or "NOOOOOO" managers.

Whoever gets it is going to need time and Patience from the fans.

Sol Campbell second favourite for the Hull job. Yes he's a weird bloke but he's done amazing for us. Many of our fans hate him and want Whitaker to get the job. Even though under Whitaker we produced 2 of the worst performances I have ever witnessed when we lost 5-0 against Northampton and were knocked out the FA Cup to Maidstone who got relegated from the league below. If we go for Whitaker we will go down with the lowest points total ever and many of the Macc fans will be wishing we'd kept Campbell.

How can he be hated at this stage?! The way he comes across in interviews or what?

What's the reason your fans hate him? Worked a miracle keeping you up.

Yes for sure, he has the right personality.

However, with the business we've done in the last few days - I think the appointment will be in house, just a hunch though. Our board seem to have sorted this out alot quicker than I thought.

I don't have a clue. I echo your thoughts exactly. But some 'fans' have never taken to him. Singing for him to leave the club and on social media slagging him off as useless and tactically inept.

To be fair, they're the kind of idiots who would boo any manager if it wasn't John Askey or Danny Whitaker.

Some football fans are weird - we had two people on our forum who, even when he was leading us to an automatic return to the League, slated Gary Johnson at every opportunity.

The moment we started struggling after promotion it was like all their Christmas's had come at once.

Maybe.

However one of my ex's work colleagues lived in Wilmslow. Went out two or three times with her and her husband, who happened to be black. Nice people, and their son was an Arsenal fan whose favourite player ( this was about 2004) was Sol Campbell...
