Colchester fans - opinions on John McGreal? Sounds like he's a serious candidate and seems to tick a few boxes with what we're after.

Would be great if we got Lowe but there's no way we're paying compo so I think that's just speculation.

Not sure why compo is completely out of the question, we’re far from skint. The very fact that we’re not allowed to spend brass is one of the reasons as to why we’re in this situation, tbf.

Wouldn't turn my nose up at McGreal, either.

Ryan Lowe appeals to me, despite his current run with Plymouth. Lowe has a very good record at this level and I'm sure with the right backing he could repeat that at Bradford City.

Danny Cowley would have been my first choice, but word is that he hasnt applied, probably waiting for another opportunity in league 1.

Not sure about anyone else, Paul Hurst always seems to appear on the lists when there is a vacancy, and will probably be in the running.

Anyone ITK got any info on likely candidates for the Bradford job or who's been interviewed? Some of our fans seem to think we'd be looking at the same pool of candidates but Bradford will be a much bigger draw. A few of our mischievous fans have mucking about on twitter so I haven't really been paying any attention to the bookies' list.

Only thing I know is that Desperate Dino has applied. Hope we don't go for him though.

Sol Campbell has been strongly linked... given his history I'm sure he'd be as happy to manage Barrow as he would Bradford. Barrow would probably be the best run club he's ever managed.

McGreal would be a steady enough appointment for any League Two side I would think, certainly don't think he would get a side relegated. His teams were generally solid at the back but we usually lacked something in front of goal. Some of the squads he had really ought to have been promoted in my opinion, and that we never pushed closer to the automatic promotion places was disappointing - we usually fell away around the new year.

I think my biggest criticism would be that he was too concerned with what the other side would be doing. Even when the squad was good enough to go out and beat anybody, we wouldn't set out to let them worry about us, we'd be tinkering around and changing things to stop them. It would be interesting to see how he would fare elsewhere though, particularly at a 'bigger' club like Bradford where perhaps there would be more vociferous expectation and so on.

Hurst, McGreal and Flitcroft are being reported as having applied, Parkinson, Lowe, Campbell and Alexander have been ruled out by the local journalist.

Your second paragraph could’ve been written for McCall!

An interesting name getting mentioned at present is.... Ian Holloway - can't see it happening - but if Grimsby do get rid after his comments that could be a bit of a left field appointment

Maybe if it was a negligible amount, five figures possibly. But I'd imagine Lowe would command significant compensation not just for himself but for his whole backroom team.

Just heard that myself. Is he the outspoken one? Not sure what Grimsby fans think of him.

Decent appointment I think, Grimsby played the sort of football under him that Barrow have been good at. Yeah he had a bit of a go at the local reporters and club ownership, but to be fair to him, the Grimsby owner is a fud and I think the fans were a bit disappointment to see him go.

Morecambe manager Derek Adams has come from nowhere to be 2nd favourite for our job today . Looking from the outside, he appears to be doing a very good job at Morecambe, also got Plymouth promoted a few years ago.

Would we pay compensation for a manager, and more to the point, would Adams want to leave Morecambe at this moment in time?

A lot of City fans seem to think Paul Hurst set to be announced on Monday though?

It seems Jolley is a no go because Barrow fans have never heard of him so that obviously makes him shit.

More fool them.
Jolley would be a good appointment.
Managers should be judged on their success rate and not if they are nice to the press.
He did good for Grimsby during his time in charge despite that sordid sex scandal hanging over his head.

I think Jolley would be a good appointment, he took over Russell Slade’s team of no hopers and got them playing like Barcelona for the last few games of the season, enough to keep us up.
By the time he was sacked for the outburst though the performances had got really turgid although that wasn’t helped by Fenty being a tight arse with the budget as usual.

Some Scottish journalist is linking us with Derek Adams at Morecambe. I sincerely hope its nonsense given his reputation for turgid football. We went down that route last year with Bowyer and it ended in disaster so it would be madness to do it again.

A lot of people still expecting Hurst to be announced tomorrow anyway.

Getting increasingly unturgid. Be very surprised if he's interested though. Seems to be an honourable chap who, I think, will honour his contract. It's till May 2022.
Of course, if an offer is big enough for him and the club then maybe, just maybe, but apparently he dislikes Yorkshiremen

According to Twitter, the final two names are Hurst and Woodgate. The bigger name vs the guy with experience and better CV, Hurst a no brainier for me personally.

Feel for Mariners fans after our experience with Smurf, its very difficult to get out that rut, lets hope the owner going is a positive (if he does) as they seem to be spiralling out the league

I think he’s jumped the gun on the takeover as an excuse to get out before he completely wrecks it in January.

Disappointed it’s ended like this and now desperately worried about the future. If the takeover happens then things look bright, but we need a takeover and an almost entirely new squad in 6 weeks to have any chance of staying up now.

I think if he stayed on, he'd have certainly turned it around. But the Gimsby transfer policy last summer I always thought was a big gamble - signing mainly young Non League players with potential.

I’m not 100% sure he would, I can’t quite explain how bad most of his signings were

Seems a convenient excuse to jump before he was pushed, anyone without his profile would have been under a lot of pressure a while ago. His past few jobs have been poor too so not sure his reputation is justified either to be honest. His waffling is irritating too, he used to be funny once upon a time.
