You would have to be underwhelmed as fuck as a Villa fan if they appointed Terry.

Why? It’s not like appointing a proven Championship manager has just done them any good and Bruce had more resources to get them out than he had with any of his former clubs. Terry might have the tools to be an excellent manager, no one knows yet.

One of the richest clubs in the country and probably the most expensive squad ever assembled at this level. Yet they would be trusting it to a rookie in his first ever job who is only interested because no club would meet his wage demands this summer.

Leeds appointed a manager who managed Argentina for 6 years and took Atletico Bilbao to Europa League and Copa Del Rey finals.

See Jim White tweeted yesterday that Villa wanted to speak to Brendan Rodgers.

Not fussed about Faria at all. Infact I didn’t want him at all. Henry seems to have had his head turned by Monaco, so his heart obviously wasn’t fully into it anyway, so that’s a blessing. Rodgers or Dean Smith ????? This would be a new challenge for Rodgers, and a big step up for Dean Smith. Don’t rule out us going with Big Sam either. Now he’s another old school manager in the same sense as Bruce, but a much better technician of the game. We just need to get promoted this season, end of.

Dean Smith with Terry as his assistant by the sounds of it at Villa?

Well. Fuck.

We’ll be fine, but it’s going to put a big dent in our promotion hopes this year.

No idea who we’ll get in.

Happy for Smith. Served his apprenticeship and deserves the chance. Imagine the feeling when not just a huge club like Villa, but the club you've supported all your life tells you they want you as their boss. He must be the most excited bloke in the country right now.

Will be interesting to see who Brentford appoint and how it will affect their season.
Anyone got suggestions?

Could Brentford go abroad?

No stand out candidates in League One are there?

Those two at Lincoln maybe?

There he goes... Enjoyed his management of us immensely at times, and hated it at others. We played some blinding football with him at the helm, but he'll lack the immense support and trust that he got with us (and at Walsall by all accounts too) from the backroom staff and owner.

No one in their right minds turns down the job to manage their boyhood club, move the family back to their roots, and get paid a shit ton more to do it. No arguments there. I wish him all the luck, but the Villa fans might find him out of his depth a little in the coming months.

Most likely is that we've been planning for this event a while. We hired Thomas Frank as a second assistant last year, and I'd have thought he'd step up to the plate whilst we brought in new staff to support him. Ex-Brondby manager, and coached a number of the Danish youth sides. A very tactical and astute coach.

Or... we could go elsewhere.

Will be a very good appointment. Think the jt thing will work wonders too personally.

I think it’ll be Nathan Jones from Luton. I got on Smith to Villa last week at 5/2, should’ve got on at 20s yesterday but looked nailed on to be Henry.

Cowley’s style is pretty much everything don’t do, can’t see him going there.

As Josh said, we’ll almost certainly promote from within. No stand out options that we could afford in England, we might go abroad but I think we’ll aim for as much consistency as possible and promote from within.

Whoever it is I just hope we keep playing football the way we do, so much fun to watch.

Although a little underwhelming I think it’s a really logical commonsense appointment.

Smith knows the division, loads of management experience but never with high expectation and pressure. Whereas Terry has no management experience but knows the players and the club. He also has loads of experience dealing with pressure and expectation.

On paper they complement each other well, should do well.

You could afford Jones, and he’d do well for you.

Smith is a good appointment on the face of it but I’m going to stick my neck on the line and say that it’ll end in tears. Villa fans collectively are self-righteous c*** much like Leeds fans that think they belong in the top flight. Smith would get it right at Villa if given time but he won’t be afforded it, you can’t change the philosophy from shithousery to gushing flowing football overnight, won’t work.

I wonder how Smith and Terry feel about working with each other.Massive step up for Smith walking into the pressure cooker which is Villa Park, and also working with someone like John Terry.

I’m happy with the appointment. I like the way Smith plays the game, and I’m glad we’ve got someone like Terry back at the club. Hopefully they work well together, although it does seem a weird partnership in the sense that you have this quiet down to earth manager who’s got the chance to manage his boyhood club, with his assistant manager being a massive celebrity in the football world and beyond. The fans will be right behind this. UTV

Cowley’s Braintree were a good footballing side, suspect the way his Lincoln team played was making best use of the strengths of that squad. However don’t see them moving atm.

McCarthy to Brentford? Supposedly works well on a budget?

Can't see Brentford wanting McCarthy, they play a decent style opposed to Big Mick's hoofball.

I would put my house on McCarthy not being the manager. He the exact opposite of what we’re looking for in a manager.

I totally get why Smith left, but forcing Terry on him as his assistant is the wrong choice. Wonder what other decisions they’ll go over his head on.

Sign of a club still being run badly.
