Most likely is that we've been planning for this event a while. We hired Thomas Frank as a second assistant last year, and I'd have thought he'd step up to the plate whilst we brought in new staff to support him. Ex-Brondby manager, and coached a number of the Danish youth sides. A very tactical and astute coach.

Or... we could go elsewhere.

As Josh said, we’ll almost certainly promote from within. No stand out options that we could afford in England, we might go abroad but I think we’ll aim for as much consistency as possible and promote from within.

Whoever it is I just hope we keep playing football the way we do, so much fun to watch.

Yeah, an in-house appointment would be the way to go imo.

Your club has a certain way of doing things and a smooth transition could still see you finish in the top 6 this season. I think giving the job to this Frank and re-assessing in the summer would be sensible.

Although a little underwhelming I think it’s a really logical commonsense appointment.

Smith knows the division, loads of management experience but never with high expectation and pressure. Whereas Terry has no management experience but knows the players and the club. He also has loads of experience dealing with pressure and expectation.

On paper they complement each other well, should do well.

I think a couple of things will happen or need to happen.

Smith was simply a cog in a larger backroom staff at Brentford. An important cog, for sure, but a cog nonetheless. He'll either get found out at Villa - as in, Villa and the fans perhaps didn't realise quite how narrow his role at Brentford was, and that he was provided a great squad by the DsoF and an infrastructure and support framework from an incredible backroom staff. As such, the role at Villa will be significantly wider than his most recent position with Brentford, and Smith will struggle to control so many moving parts.

He'll thrive and make the step up seamlessly. He's a smart guy, has a great attitude and instilled a brilliant collective attitude around the training pitch. You should never question someone's ambition or ability to reach those ambitions, particularly as he's still very much on an upward trajectory in his career.

I have no issues with him leaving whatsoever, and think he's been a great employer for us. It'll be fascinating to see how he gets on and I wish him all the success in his future career (just not this season!)

Keep hearing that he was not the man behind the success of Brentford, but obviously did his role well. I’m not under the assumption that he will definitely be the man, and he could quite easily crack at a club like Villa. The fans will give him a fair crack at it though.

Cowley’s style is pretty much everything don’t do, can’t see him going there.

When they joined us, we had the best target man in NL football and used him (being more direct is also generally the way to get out of the NL - even more so with ourselves not having a top budget for the division and able to go out and get an out and out goal scorer).

Last season we were still direct because we didn't have the finances to bring in a squad full of 'passing' players but they've shown this season that they can evolve, as Boz may be able to attest to because we were at their place 10 days ago. We've played some exceptional, fluid, attacking stuff this season, with the second best attack whilst still having the best defence.

Fair shout. Your squad is impressive, Toffolo, Shackell and Akinde were all fantastic signings, how have they got on?

I’m hoping we get Lincoln away in the cup this year, random one but a new ground that I’d like to do.

Toffolo is a very good attacking LB at this level but there aren't too many decent wingers to test him so defensively he's been fairly comfortable, although he doesn't look like a solid LB as such. Not particularly bad, just not as solid as the rest of the back four.

Shackell shouldn't be at this level really, but we worked from a location point of view as he only lives in Nottingham. So far in front of some L2 strikers, in his head, it's very comfortable for him. Probably our player of the season so far.

Akinde's getting a bit of stick from a minority because they think he should be scoring more but he's been involved in more goals this season than anyone else in the squad. When you're a record signing, people want the goals to show for it but the Cowleys have never really had anyone who's scored way more than anyone else in the squad and they're always spread around.

We usually train at your place when we're down that neck of the woods. Of course, we've got Jamie McCombe who you bought off us all those years ago and he's on our backroom staff (still resgistered as a player but only played once in two years).
