Rob Edwards signed a 4 year contract with us. Was some rumours early summer he might be away but that dissipated when the Ipswich/McKenna domino didn’t fall

Obviously it’s nice to have some commitment from him but In reality I don’t think it changes all that much other than we will get some decent compensation if someone comes in for him. Can’t imagine we will be wanting to get rid of him ourselves regardless of what happens this season.

David Wagner should be top of our wanted list.

Heckingbottom seems the early favourite.

Probably not a bad appointment but it's uninspiring.

would you take moyes back?
Of course. Not a chance it ever happens though.

Any struggling Prem club will throw millions at him after Christmas to come in and rescue them.

I did see some Luton fans talking about getting rid of Rob Edwards and rehiring Nathan Jones last night. Obviously it's not going to happen, but made me laugh - a sign of the times of how reactionary and emotional people get.

Haha surely not? Didn’t hear any of that talk last night, there is definitely frustrations as it all felt quite predictable.

First time in a long long time I can remember where there seems a genuine gap between the clubs perceptions and the fans but calling for heads is ridiculous

The generally reliable ITK guy on PNE Online seems to think we'll have someone in by Tuesday and Alex Neil is now out of the running.

Everything points towards Brian Barry-Murphy or Scott Lindsey at Crawley right now, but it could be someone completely left-field that hasn't been discussed.

If it's Barry-Murphy, we'll surely have to bring in a couple of loan defenders to accommodate his style.

Lindsey seems to have performed miracles with Crawley. Thought they would go down last season and he got them up and started this in L1 with a very average looking squad with 2 wins. Saw them in the P/off final last season and they were fantastic, you might need some signings for his style too!

Brian Barry-Murphy seems much more likely. Maybe even announced tomorrow. A couple of City loans wouldn't be unwelcome.

Hardly a fan favourite at Leeds, but Heckingbottom took Sheff Utd to the PL on a budget smaller than he had at Leeds. Not the worst appointment for a year or two even.

This morning it seems like it's between three. Barry-Murphy, Heckingbottom, and another.

Heckingbottom seems a safe appointment, but extremely boring.

I'd imagine potential options are much more limited two games into the season, and it seems the club are reluctant to pay big compensation for someone.

It'll be Heckingbottom I guess. Not my choice but he won promotion to the Prem in 22-23, so we could do much, much worse.

Paul Heckingbottom it is.

Not officially announced but he'll be taking training tomorrow morning.

Stuart McCall will come in as his assistant. Peter Murphy, Ched Evans, and Mike Pollitt staying on as coaches.

Good to get it resolved quickly so we're in better shape for the Luton game on Saturday, although I'm not expecting an instant fix.

Let's hope he can clean up Lowe's/ Ridsdale's mess quickly.

Did well with Sheffield United in this league but struggled elsewhere I think.

Think Preston fans just want exciting football but then doesn’t everyone?!

Did well at Barnsley, getting them promoted then keeping them up (14th) before being poached by Leeds where he was sacked after 16 games.

We're not demanding exciting football, just watchable football that has basic patterns of play.

I like Schumacher as a manager, Stoke just have a rancid culture where decent Championship players can earn great Championship player money but there's a reason why they continually disappoint at this level and why a high proportion of the players they sign essentially go backwards professionally.

That's Lambert, Rowett, Jones, Neil and now Schumacher - all extremely well credible appointments of highly-thought of managers (at the time). Now, when you consider their reputation based on their (lack of) success at Stoke, it's probably a job ambitious managers should look to avoid.

Will take Schumacher as long as Lowe is not part of the deal........First choice would be Challinor, but i think that is a no goer
Schumacher with Nolan would give this club a much needed boost

Would be an excellent appointment although I think he would want a championship job. I suspect we will see another 10 sackings from this division and he’s good enough to pick one of those jobs up.

Rumours swirling that Edwards has walked away today.

If true and he’s walked and not pushed, that sort of chimes with a lot of his recent behaviour. He’s looked down, sitting down in the dugout during games and post match interviews looking very depressed and bereft of anything to really say or explain what’s happening.

I understand his disappointment and frustration and I do wonder if he feels the recruitment has let him down. However ulitmately he’s the leader of the team and in many respects the club and you have to maintain a certain positivity in that leadership or things, like bad starts as we have had, build on top of you which is what ultimately is happening. He’s not really looked like turning things around as a result of his demeanour as much as anything he’s done

He’s not helped himself tactically this season, but the summer and the January windows were the first in many years where you can say the plan was muddled and we got the recruitment very wrong. We will never know I don’t think but would love to understand what’s gone on because there’s been a clear lack of direction for the first time in going on 10 years

How much credit are we giving Nathan Jones for that promotion?

Well, we were 13th at the time of Edward’s first game and not in especially great form. Edwards certainly had a huge positive impact but the real thing that did it was the Nakamba signing really, he was the missing ingredient of that team that put it over the edge

Club have just posted a picture of him at the training ground and “building toward Derby day” . So seems the rumour was premature at best.

Although I still think he’s on borrowed time. Funny looking back in hindsight at this post seems rather foolish, then again didn’t think we would be quite as poor as we’ve been even in a worst case

Yeah, I'm alluding more to Jones putting together that group of players and culture I guess, Edwards seemed to have made the correct tactical changes to take them up a notch.

But now he's expected to build his own team, he seems lacking.

Pretty much agree with that tbh. The key thing with that side was a very aggressive mentality. You can see from this season that that mindset is totally gone, typified by Edwards attitude this season which could be largely described as tired resignation
