Five goals conceeded in two home games (plus a couple of woodwork shots and a few cracking saves) shows our defence needs some work. On judgement I'd say about four players worth of work but I'm on a downer at the moment.

I'm away at the sec so could not go last night but it looks as though Milsom has already been infected with the desire to give the ball away in dangerous positions and we cannot stop faffing around at the back.

Still, a 99th minute equaliser is always fun and it sounds as though Nathaniel-Grant is making the step up after signing from Hendon.

Hard to tell with the motion blur of the camera, but the ball goes over the top of his back as he's getting to his feet, so if his arm is up there then definite penalty as he can't claim he was just using his arm to support himself up. We had this with our penalty claim against Northampton last week, the ball is hit hard from close-range at the player, but would not have hit him had he not conveniently had his hand in some un-natural position.

I think I mentioned in my mini match report earlier in the thread but to me your best players were Poleon and Nathaniel-Grant (if he was 15). By half time we were so comfortable (should have really been 3-0 at HT) but the second half from us was a disaster.

A minute before your penalty Taylor smacked the underside of the bar with a Free kick. Just shows how fine margins can change games. Given the circumstances delighted with a point but have to be gutted with a 99th minute equaliser which we basically created for you after defending so well for basically 40 second half minutes!

We can bitch all we like the reff gave it.
Not having any luck but at least the team has more guts than last season.
Really enjoyed the Forest and Lincoln games just want something to go right and Gold to stop dropping from a great hight on to his arse all the time.

Can't be the same Simpson who came from us! He was utterly useless, he's like 33 and has scored 4 competitive goals in the last 2 years!
Same one hahaha he bossed it when he came on, made a good case for himself to start against you on Saturday.

We kind of were a pub team in that we were based out of my namesake and avatar pic The Jovial Forester for a fair while and used it for changing rooms too. Pub's gone now of course.
Bet there were no falafels and three bean pies on the menu back then

At least it's exciting/interesting being a Swindon fan again. The dullness of last season was shocking.

That said we probably need 3 points at Forest Green to make last night's point a decent one. Expect a tough game.

Of course not. There weren't any on the menu 6 or 7 years ago either. We did do a very nice cottage pie mind.

That being said I am much healthier now, what with not eating meat for a couple of hours every other week.

And very nice were the cottage pies too. So much so, that I remember having TWO in The Green Man prior to our 3 all draw the first time we played there!

Experimental 361 is back, so let's see how yesterday's games measure up. One-sentence match summaries based on the graphs only. Do they sound accurate?

Cambridge looked the more likely to score for most of their game, but a quick start from Exeter to go 2-0 up probably took the pressure off keeping Cambridge at bay.

Carlisle's penalty accounted for most of the difference in the first half, however Vale didn't do enough in the second half, not registering a single shot from open play after the 60th minute, while Carlisle got their reward for going back on the attack late on.

Colchester dominated Crewe and had one of those days where everything seems to end in the back of the net.

While Swindon going down to 9 men set the tone for the second half to be all Crawley attacking, they had in truth withered as an attacking force from the moment they went 2-0 up and were lucky not to lose the game.

FGR limited Stevenage to a couple of decent chances in the second half, but were unable to carve an opening themselves despite being frequently on the attack

Bury seemed to be edging a fairly captivating encounter and held a deserved lead until the 74th minute after which a couple of knockout blows from Lincoln (the first being from the spot) saw them take all three points.

Macclesfield also led a relatively close game having had the better of the first half, however Cheltenham grabbed an equaliser when the game opened up in the second.

MK Dons didn't arrive until half time and Grimsby didn't have to do a lot to deserve their 1-0 lead. The second half was a different story and following a quick equaliser, it was one way traffic, MK Dons will feel as though they should have won.

An even match between Morecambe and Northampton as they took turns being on top, but only Morecambe managed to put away one of the chances that fell to them.

Notts went 1-0 up early on, but were 2-0 down by the time they had their next shot on goal late in the second half. Newport may have rued missed opportunities when Notts eventually created a decent chance and equalised but were able to create a chance themselves to win the game.

For Tranmere v Mansfield, see FGR v Stevenage. The teams matched each other for chances, with the best coming in the last half hour but were unable to score.

Nothing of note happened in the game between Yeovil and Oldham, 0-0 written all over it.

‘Withered as an attacking force’. We should have had 2 more before half time. Going down to 9 men usually ends up attack v defence, yet we hit the bar in the 2nd half. Crawley were atrocious - I thought we set the standard for comical defending, but these bozos took the biscuit.

Tisdale hardly played him too, strange how he moves to a supposed bigger club and gets a game!

The big thing missing from the stats is attacks that don't end up with shots. I presume that your attacks after the second goal were chances that fizzed across the goal with nobody able to get on the end of them. The stats do make it look like you didn't look like scoring for almost two thirds of the game, presume that little jump at the end for you is the one you say hit the bar.

Tranmere were actually quite a small club at the levels they were playing at before the conference, I remember you bringing about 200 fans to Swindon on a Saturday for instance.
I am not defending the comments of the original poster, but I would love to know what your definition of 'small' is. Like Morecambe and Macclesfield you mean ?

I would say we are pretty much on a par with Oldham, Swindon and Notts County in terms of fanbase and history.

Not so strange when you consider our only other striking options are Keiran Agard or a 17 year old Dylan Asonganyi as all other forwards are injured. We've even resorted to playing a DM up front in the last 3 games.

I had our formation explained to me. It seems we play four at the back when defending and three at the back when attacking. This, apparently, is a highly innovative formation and shows the genius of Kewell.

All hail the genius that is Kewell, all ignore the issue of losing the ball and having your defence out of position!

Pathetic little pub team? So you can insult a whole club for a fan who is obviously just joking.

Wow, what an intelligent retort , you show yourself as a bitter, pathetic idiot with the pub team comment.

However I realise they are a proper league club with a rich history and would not degenerate a club and belittle them as you have done.

I dislike your club, it's everything that's wrong with football. Tranmere have never been a small club, behave yourself.

Surely FGR is what is right about Football. A club that has risen to the football league from relative obscurity. It doesn’t matter a jot that they have been well funded to achieve it. No club gets anywhere without funding at whatever level.

It’s not their fault, or anyone else’s, that you have spent years in non league.

Dale Vince might be a bit on the arrogant side which will colour most people's views of FGR, but they aren't the worst offenders, at least they have a reasonable amount of fans, have only really jumped up one level from where they were before they had money and are attempting to be about more than just an egomaniacal owner trying to buy his way up the pyramid.

I would agree with Warwick's views were they about some of the other teams down there. The likes of Fylde, Eastleigh and worst of all, Salford; who throw so much money around that SPL and League One clubs can't match their spending power, and for what? They have no fans, no green philosophy they're trying to spread, just looking to keep clubs who do have fans out of the league to suit the egos of their owners. You end up with better players playing higher standards of football in front of smaller crowds, while larger audiences are stuck watching what's left once Salford and co have had their fill of talent. I'm happy to see the fans of clubs like FGR getting to enjoy progressing instead of slogging it out in the Conference season after season, that's what football is all about; but what if Salford get promoted, they have more owners than they have fans.

You do realise most clubs are bankrolled to some extent in league football? Including, that's right Tranmere themselves.

Nothing wrong with that, and yes Tranmere are a big club at this level, anyway I like Tranmere as a club and find a lot of their fans are friendly and know their football and are respectful of other clubs.

The opposite to you to be honest.

Oh. Well then I'm stumped.

But I still remember Hulse and Ashton doing us over 0-3 when you had a quality side at this level so the 4-3's can be payback for that.

Ah the days when we were 2nd in League One. I'll only ever see them again on Football Manager...
