Tranmere 0-0 Mansfield. Hard earned point and a fair result in the end. Think both sides were made to look average though because they levelled themselves out very evenly. I personally think Mansfield are the best team we've faced in the league so far and they'll be up there this season for sure.

As for us, after 4 games we've fitted in fairly well. Missing Cook big time and Stockton is incredibly frustrating. But with Zoom back and Bucko too hopefully we'll be finishing solid mid table which I'd definitely take in our first season back.

To be fair we've played some good sides so far, but it's becoming more apparent were looking increasingly toothless upfront. I think we need another fininisher, a contrast to Doidge who looks a bit too slow a times.

Swindon did their best tonight to make life more easy for us on Saturday though. Beginning to forget what it's like to win again. (well and loose too so far).

What a crazy game at Crawley. Absolutely in control, 2-0 up at half time. And then our 2 centre midfielders get sent off for lunging tackles and we have to play most of the second half with 9 men. Annoyingly Crawley’s best players were the wingers, 10 (Poleon maybe?) and 15 (some double barrelled fella) and they had loads of space and were whipping in dangerous crosses that somehow we managed to repel.

Into the 6th of 8 minutes injury time and we break and Alzate is pulled down, red card. Matt Taylor steps up and smacks the underside of the bar with his free kick. Then Richards gives the ball away carelessly and dives in to give away a penalty. 2-2.

I would definitely have taken a point on 54 minutes but to give away 2 points in that manner is frustrating. Brave performance and we can be proud.

Thoughts on us for the season ahead?

Quite gloomy at Bury these days as we always shoot ourselves in the foot, how do we compare to other sides you’ve seen at this level?
In the first half you were by far the better side, really good energy, pressing, nice width from the wing backs. Omotayo a bit raw but a physical presence, Danns always a threat. We were probably a bit lucky to only be 1-0 down at HT as you win every second ball and dominated us all over the park. That said, you didn't have lots of clear-cut chances. Start of the second half was similar until we brought Akinde and McCartan on, which either changed things or coincided with you running out of energy or trying to defend the 1-0 lead. Either way, we penned you in and started putting lots of balls into the box, one of which led to the penalty as Andrade smashed the ball in and Aimson palmed it away. The tide turned then and we got the second rough sheer determination. That said, you came back into it again at the end and had a couple of chances still. It was a good performance from Bury but there is clearly some mental fragility which came through in the second half. Given your away record the last 18 months, that's understandable. What was really impressive is that you came to win the game from the off and you battled and dominated for most of the game. No parking the bus (maybe you tried at about 60mins but once we had gone ahead you came back again).

That picture doesn’t take into account that he was getting up off the floor and the ball was travelling around 80mph.
Come on...he managed to leap to one side and stick his arm out to stop the ball. Not like he just got up and it hit him.

Great win for us but fuck knows what the Cambridge ‘keeper was doing for Stockley’s goal. Still can’t complain at another win and a clean sheet. Stockley and Forte forming a nice little partnership.

Still very early days and I don’t think we’ve played anyone I’d expect to be in the promotion run in yet and we have a tough run of games coming up so not getting carried away.

Have to say that Colchester are doing really well and they could well be the business. Not sure how Nolan has fucked up to have gone from last season’s form to being so open at the back this season. And as for Swindon WTF.

Refreshing to hear, but still very very hard to take tonight.

Last season was very similar, tipped for promotion and ended up bottom. This season we’re playing decent but again keep losing.

It’s very very depressing. Fucking gutted tonight as that feeling of last season seeps in.

Well, that was a game of 2 halves as the saying goes. Grimsby could have easily had more than one in the first half and vice versa in the second.

Probably we should have won it at the end but that would have been a bit harsh on Grimsby.

At least Tisdale seems to be willing to change things and make early substitutions when things aren't going well.

As for the red, well, a rush of blood because I can't believe he meant to go in like that. Silly boy.

We need Jermaine Beckord back ASAP. Our strikers are scared to shoot, he won’t be.

You'll be fine, you won't be anywhere near the relegation zones. The battle down here is looking to be between Cheltenham, Notts, and us.

Nolan was asked after the game if he’d be looking to bring anyone in to sort the defence out.

He said they’d see what’s available and see if anything can be done. Seconds later he remembered that he was basically calling his defence shite and said - but I can’t think of that tonight that wouldn’t be right.

Well I hope you’re right. Tonight has sapped my ‘new season’ optimism right out of me and I’m thoroughly depressed about football again.

We just need some wins, to reassure everyone at the club it’s not going to be another shambles season, it just feels like a continuation of the previous season at present. Not helped by the unknown quantity of Ryan Lowe as manager.

I despair. We're even worse than Notts Co.
Our squad is about the same as last year's squad that got relegated and had the worst defense of the entirety of the 3rd division. I don't understand why the club haven't over the summer tried to clear all the shite out of our squad.

Reid looks really good a times, but can easily disappear. He has his good days, and has lost a shed load of weight, which is helping his game. On the whole defences are doing enough to repel us. Just frustrating sometimes. We are a much improved side, but this is not translating to winning games, and not scoring enough. From what I've seen this season, the standard has gone-up yet again across the board in this league. Fine margins and all that.

"Nolan won’t last more than a couple of weeks, he’s gone. The decision to start tonight with the same midfield as was bullied into submission by Yeovil on Friday is completely inexplicable." Jacob

Couldn't believe he started with Hussin and Vaughan in the middle. I want Nolan to succeed but the centre halves and centre midfield is not going to work. As for Dan Jones, what has happened to him.
Centre half and gritty centre midfielder urgently needs to save the season even this early on.

Said it the other day, we have abandoned everything that made us good last season.

Sacking Nolan won’t change owt either. It’s the lack of options that’s killing us

Sorry, but Vaughn is a luxury at this level. We need a Bishop and Ravenhill, not an ex prem player on his way out of football.

We need to dump these crap midfielders and quick. No amount of system change can save this with this crop. We have no out ball like last season with Shola. We have no strength, no grit. No leaders.

Disagree with the last bit - Hemmings is a great out ball, better than Shola because he can actually run after it as well. We are missing Ameobi a lot, but weirdly at the other end when defending set pieces.

I do think this is mostly down to the mental pairing of Vaughan and Husin. We played pretty well against Colchester and Cambridge with Hewitt and Vaughan in there - personally I think that team with Dennis in for Stead and Hawkridge in for Thomas would basically be fine.

I thought it was an entertaining game and a draw was a fair result. Mansfield were by far the best team we have played so far, with a lot of power and pace, but strangely did not create much and we had the better of the few chances. Some of the link up play between our front four is very good to watch.

I don't think we have got the depth to challenge this season, but we should finish comfortably in mid table.

He wins 40% or so of his headers. We kick out the ball and it’s just coming back.... I rate Hemmings, he’s better than anything we had last season, but we badly miss that target man

Vaughn can’t run, games and opposition players are passing him by

Some crazy results tonight. Crewe impressively managing to cancel out their opening day result already. Can't see Notts and Cobblers staying down that end for long though.

Did you score today?

Tbh nothing counts in the bananarama league. We won 12 games in a row setting a conference record then went about the same amount of games without winning in the league with pretty much the same players and manager.

We are the kings of smash and grab!

We were dire first half again and bury dominated but didn’t really make any clear cut chances. I’m not entirely sure how you didn’t score more considering how poorly we defended and how keen we were to give the ball back to you. Second half we looked better but still not great. No idea if it was handball from my view. Akindepen bags another.

Some how we’ve got 10 points on the board but we probably deserve half of that at most.

I said that about Chessie last season, I think at the same amount of games too!

You’re not comparible to chesterfield in the slightest on that front though, you’ve a chairman, that despite his eccentric ways, will back you and wants the best for you, that lot never had a chance under Dave Allen and co.

Think we're more like Chesterfield than Notts in that respect - just relegated from the division above, hardly any backing in the transfer window, team and management mostly the same rubbish as last year, etc...

Best case scenario we get some better players in and muck around just above the relegation zone like Port Vale last year.
